Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. mid you don’t mind me asking, what steamer do you use?
  2. Is the salty dog gastropub only open for dining at dinner, or are the open at lunch too?
  3. Here is the menu for the crown grill. I’ll try to go get a picture of sabatini’s menu
  4. Overall my group has been really enjoying this cruise! I haven’t seen any major issues like what happened on the previous cruise. And, it has been really pleasant only having the ship be half full. Last night (formal night) was probably the busiest I have seen some of the lounges and dining rooms this whole cruise. And even then, it was still easy to get a table or find a place to sit. We made sure to use Mike’s tip of letting our server know we wanted to make the 9:30 show time, and that has helped get us out of the MDR in a timely fashion 🙂 We had a minor issues in both my cabin and my parents cabin where the electrical outlets on the exterior wall side (leading to the balcony) didn’t work. But they got the electricians up here and got the issue fixed within a few hours. Princess also gave us complementary wine +cheese and crackers to enjoy while we waited.
  5. We did the ultimate balcony breakfast the day we went into glacier bay. It was cold, but so pretty and peaceful!
  6. I’m not sure if it is a one time thing. You could try calling Princess to see. They were not traditional stairs like the kind between each deck on the ship. It was like a stair/ramp hybrid where each step was 2-3inches in height, but there were a lot of them, and there were small gaps in between.
  7. I haven’t had any issues the two times I’ve gone to the excursions desk. I had one excursion through the ship cancelled (luxury car, Skagway white pass railroad), and princess rebooked me on a similar excursion (regular car white pass railroad) but at an early time. It was super easy to change to the later train and I only had to wait about 5 minutes to talk with a crew member (first day of the cruise, around 3pm). the second time I went was just to book an excursion at icy straight point and similar to before, very helpful crew member and we were able to walk right up….but I will say, it was at 8am in the morning which may have helped.
  8. We made it to both ports ontime! We docked at 2:30 in Juneau and they told everyone that it would take about 30 minutes to get the walkways up for disembarkation. They made an overhead announcement when they were ready. My group did not get off right away (about 20 min after their announcement) and we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes. I’m the Princess Patter is notice that in Skagway, it would take them from about 6am-11am to get the ramps in place to disembark. So during that time you would have to go down stairs to disembark and if you have mobility issues you will need to wait until that later time. So something to keep in mind if that applies to you! I’m not sure about meeting excursions because we used an independent operator for our whale watching — Alaska Tales and they were amazing! We got lucky and there were only 11 of us ok a boat that normally has 50 people. We got to see a bunch of whales, sea lions, and even some harbor porpoises which the captain said was rare. I’m assuming we made it in time/close to on time at 7am in Skagway… I “slept in” until 7. We are going scenic white pass excursion booked through the ship later this morning, so I can report back. Overall my group has been having a blast! We’ve been really enjoying Maria who hosts most of the trivia on the ship. The singers and dancers were really good at the stage productions 2 nights ago. And the food has been great!
  9. My whole groups has 2 $100 onboard credits, one for the revised itinerary, and I’m assuming one for the cancelled excursion. The check in process was really smooth. I was part of the first arrival group, so I’m not sure how strictly they enforced it. But from being dropped off to boarding, it was probably about 15-20 minutes. We had a small wait time after we were all checked in and before they opened the doors for us to board the ship!
  10. What menus are you wanting? I’m going to the crown grill on Wednesday and I can snap a pic of the menu.
  11. The pools and hot tubs are open. I’ve seen a few people using the hot tubs, but not the pool.
  12. Hello from the May 14th sailing! I’ll try my best to keep up with this since I know I obsessively read the May 7th cruise updates! This is my 6th cruise ever, but my first with Princess. I’m cruising with my boyfriend (we are both in our late 30’s) and my parents (late 60’s). The Good: -the crew has been amazing so far. Very attentive and helpful! -our itinerary has not changed since we switched from Ketchikan to Icy Straight point. -we seem to be making good time. We have been clocking 18-19 knots per the medallion app and marinetrafffic.com. Our captain announced earlier that we are expected to arrive on time tomorrow to Juneau. He also said that we will enter the inside passage around 6:00am and the weather is looking good (although Juneau has an 80%chance of rain per my weather app) -one crew member said that we only have about 1200 passengers onboard out of a 3000 capacity. So we are a little less than half full, which has been really nice. So far my party has not had any issue finding places to sit or attending any of the activities we have wanted to go to. But. We also are eating on the later side (7/7:30), so we don’t have to deal with the early rush. The Bad: -we have a balcony room on deck 10 aft. So while we have not had any issues with the plumbing, when you walk on deck 10 from mid ship to mid-aft there is still an odor. They have been using air fresheners to help, but it is noticeable. I haven’t met anyone staying in those rooms yet to see what they think, but that may be something to think about if you have a balcony in that section in the coming cruises. -we booked the 2pm luxury car on the scenic white pass railroad in Skagway months ago, and after we set sail we were informed that excursion was cancelled, and we were rebooked in the regular car at an earlier time. When we talked with the excursion desk, we were told it was cancelled on the operator’s side and they didn’t know the exact reason. They refunded the original price to our onboard folio, and this morning I noticed an addition $100 onboard credit labeled “disruption company credit” — unsure if it is related, but I’ll take it! -the salty dog gastropub is still closed down on this sailing. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions 🙂
