  1. NCL used to have "Sports Afloat" cruises, in fact our 1st cruise was an NFL cruise with active, retired players and sportscasters and referees. My DH and DS were in heaven!

The following year we took the MLB cruise and were again right there with many of the top stars of baseball.

On our first cruise (SS Norway), my friend and I met John Leypoldt, former Kicker who played for the Buffalo Bills, and Art Hunter, retired from Seattle Seahawks. They and their significant others were our tablemates all week in the dining room. We had a lot of fun with them and also came home with pictures. During the cruise, they had a "Football Follies" tape in one of the lounges.

  2. I was on a cruise in Bermuda when the hijacking of the Achille Lauro took place. We received a news report under our cabin door each morning and were shocked when we read the story. Obviously, the ship we were on beefed up security. One evening I went off the ship without my Boarding Pass. I was in a hurry to see the Color Guard at St. George's Wharf. When I returned to the ship, I realized that I forgot to take my Boarding Pass when I changed purses. Before I was allowed to re-board, I was questioned by the staff. I thanked them as they allowed me to board. I was happy that they took these steps to ensure our safety. After that, I always made sure I had my Boarding Pass with me.

  3. On our first cruise (10/29-11/4/83 SS Norway, Eastern Caribbean), my friend and I saw a group of people having a great time a few tables away from ours. We made a point to find out who they were ... Singleworld Cruisers! We joined and the next two cruises were through Singleworld (9/29-10/6/84 Starward, Western Caribbean, and 10/5-12/85 to Bermuda). The first Singleworld group we were in had 21 people -- 6 men and 15 women. My friend and I spent a lot of time with two of the men. Our tour guide was Judy. Our trip to Bermuda only had a handful of Singleworld cruisers so we had no escort. I took a a cruise to celebrate my birthday in October of 1989 (Seaward - Western Caribbean). I didn't have anyone to travel with so booked a quad share. We had a good time. On that cruise, Dominic was our escort. It was nice to travel with this group because you never felt alone. There was always something going on ... or you could choose to do nothing. We had our own excursion for snorkeling and private beach BBQ in Cozumel. Lots of tequila. I sure miss Singleworld.

  4. The Starward was my second cruise. I thought it was well designed that you didn't have to walk so far to get to the other end of the ship. (My first cruise was the SS Norway--the length of three football fields we were told.) Also, I met someone special on the Starward who lives in Colorado.

  5. I remember the Scandanavian Sun. I think it was in the spring of 1982 I worked on it as a DJ. It was a small ship with the inside hollow - to carry cars. You couldn't cross from the port side to the starboard side on the lower decks. We left out of Miami around 6:00AM went to Freeport and returned midnight to Miami. I used to have to make the evening announcements when we were leaving Freeport and since it was the same everyday (boring) I would have a different accent each day. The rest of the cruise staff couldn't figure out at first who was making the announcements. I was only on it for a couple of months but met alot of great people.

Did you work for Singleworld? I took two cruises with them -- 1984 on the NCL Starward and 1985 on the Bermuda Star. That was a fun group. Wish they were still around.
