Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Very similar experience. Ours was the next day.
  2. I would be interested to understand what, exactly, Seabourn means by "operational considerations"? How vague can you get?
  3. We're on Seabourn's Greenland adventure that embarks July 16 in Reykjavik. We'll be taking a tour of Iceland's south coast with BTH Travel the day before. We sailed on Crystal's then-expedition ship, Endeavour, back in the summer of 2021, on a circumnavigation cruise of Iceland. Absolutely phenomenal ship, crew and expedition staff. We're hoping the Venture can equal that experience. When we sailed on Odyssey in Alaska last year, Seabourn staggered boarding times (based on your cabin selection, i.e., pay more; board earlier). We showed up early for our boarding time, no one was there waiting, so they told us to in-process and board.
  4. It will take you somewhere in the neighborhood of an hour or more to get off the airplane (you deplane on the tarmac and bus to the terminal) and get thru immigration and customs w/luggage. The drive to Reykjavik is close to an hour. My guess is they wait to fill the busses as your fellow passengers arrive. I wouldn't expect you will arrive at the port until 12-1 PM at best. Seabourn may take you on a little tour to further delay your embarkation time.
  5. We sailed on Odyssey's Inside Passage & Alaska Fjords cruise last August. We received jackets w/hoods - blue with orange trim. They are much like a parka shell - no puffy inside jacket. It rained almost every day on this cruise and these jackets served us quite well. Adjust your inner layers based on the temperatures you encounter and your activity level. Our jackets have a soft, inner lining. But they are no arctic parka. Folks we met on-shore would ask us where they could get these jackets....
  6. We're on a Greenland Venture cruise in July; final payment has been made. I can see on Seabourn's website where we make our club benefit selections, but not the 2-bottle spirits/wine in-cabin preferences/selection we've done in the past. Is this gone? I also noticed this on Seabourn's website for a description of Venture's Veranda Suites: "All Veranda Suites onboard Seabourn Venture feature a comfortable living area; private veranda; queen-size bed or two twin beds; walk-in closet; personal safe; interactive TV with music and movies; fully stocked bar and refrigerator; writing desk with personalized stationery; makeup vanity; spacious bathroom, separate tub and shower, plush robes, slippers, luxury health and beauty products, hairdryer and 110/220V AC outlets." Does anyone know what, exactly, Seabourn means by a "fully stocked bar" in a Veranda cabin? In my humble opinion, the Constellation Lounge and The Club are "fully stocked bars". Do these cabin "fully stocked bars" replace the order-in-advance 2-bottle spirit/wine selections? Next subject: Do Venture's Veranda cabins come with binoculars? Just trying to determine how many we need to bring (one or two). Thank you!
  7. I found the breadsticks in the TK Grill to be better; they seem to have parmesan cheese in them.
  8. "Break into chunks; then crush into 1/8-1/4-inch pieces (...in food processor)." That will certainly make some noise!
  9. We came off the Odyssey on 9/6 and I don't recall much of anything requiring masks. That said, the crew was required to mask. On crowded tenders where we were not near moving fresh air (opposite ends), we put on masks. When the Colonnade got busy at lunch and it was measurably warm in there, we ate outside or at The Patio. Same in the Grand Salon when it was full (Tribute to Sir Tim Rice). Just trying to be safe. We dodged the covid thru six airport visits, four flight legs and 11 days on the ship. Masks were required in the Vancouver airport. We changed airplanes in Chicago and were required to wear masks on the Chicago-Vancouver flight leg and on our return flight from Vancouver to Chicago. No mask? Here's one, said the flight attendant.
  10. We were on Odyssey Aug 26 - Sep 6. My wife is a Bailey's Irish Cream drinker - that was not stocked on the cruise. In place of it was Maloneys Irish Cream; not quite as rich but drinkable, IHO. It may be what Seabourn can get in the region or what their vendor is able to get for them. Cost is another factor.
  11. Which airport in Iceland did you arrive? Reykjavik City Airport (RKV) or Keflavik (KEF)?
