  1. From now until June 9 you can nominate a teacher for a free cruise and cabin on the maiden voyage of Viva.

    https://contest.nclgivingjoy.com/promotions/954984

Norwegian Cruise Line is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week by “Giving Joy” to educators across the U.S. and Canada. In recognition of the unwavering dedication teachers showcase to their students and for their commitment to bringing joy to the classroom, NCL will be awarding 20 teachers with a seven-day cruise vacation. The top three Grand Prize winners will also be awarded with an exclusive voyage aboard Norwegian Viva – the soon-to-debut ship from NCL's all-new Prima Class.

If you aren't sure who to vote for, I might have a suggestion 😉

I don't know how I can share evidence of this, but I can tell you that this has worked for me twice! That's why I'm really appreciative when people post here when they start seeing the Amex offers. Once I see that offers are appearing for others I go to my account and start adding offers to clear space for new offers to appear. Both times that I have done this the NCL offer eventually came up! First time it showed up fairly soon. The second time I had to add offers for like a half hour (but I didn't give up because I knew it had worked once before LOL) and sure enough it eventually showed up!

I will say this has only worked on my Platinum card.

    I stand corrected 🙂

  3. I'm new to NCL (and cruising in general).  If I purchase 2x $500 OBC now, and then book an excursion a week from now (but before the sailing), will it be paid for out of the OBC or does OBC only actually start working once "on board"?

Or it was just part of the 100 offers. The only way to make sure is to add enough until you're under 100. I have over 300+ offers between two cards.  Check all your cards since some offers are specific to one card like the points one if you have a cash card and a points card.  Since May started a lot of offers expired and new ones appears so it might have pushed it off by the time someone saw it.

Tip: Use the website instead of the app. It's easier to see how many offers you have.

Sorry, I wasn't clear with my post.  What I meant was that I had 100+ offers already.  When the NCL offer was added, it was added at the top of my list.  Some offers "trump" other offers, this being one of them (at least for me), where it automatically shows up at the top of the offer list.  I have found that it Amex Offers don't get added in chronological order.  My assumption would be that if it isn't showing up already on your list, you would be wasting your time adding offers to get down to less than 100 to see if you have it.

Maybe someone has a data point where the current NCL didn't show up on their list until they started adding offers to get lower than 100.  I kind of doubt it though.  I'll stand corrected if someone has that data point.

I loved that slot game. A bank of machines tied to a big screen.  A bit addicting.  I haven't seen them in a few years.

Yes!  They still have Deal or No Deal Join N Play in Vegas at a couple casinos; hoping it might be on one of the ships.

As noted above, this is very frustrating - we just finalized full payment for an August cruise and paid for the premium beverage package.   We have a deposit on another cruise and haven't pulled the trigger on the PBP but when I put it in my cart - check out the price point.

It's clearly an error - but WOW!

I think this is the package price, not the upgrade price.  Not an error.  This is what you would be paying if you didn't book Free at Sea with your room.

Just checked my free amex everyday card.

    No ncl offer. 😞

did people keep 'adding' offers to free up space so the ncl/celebrity offers pops up?

No, mine was at the top of the list when it got added (and I had 100 offers).  I am guessing if you don't see it, you weren't targeted.

When i was on Oasis in 2013, i loved the deal or no deal join 'n play slots. It was so much fun playing as a group, and cheering each other on. I'm not sure if its still there though?

Edit: Maybe it was liberty? I cant remember.

Anyone know of a cruise ship that still has the Deal or No Deal Join N Play slot machine?  Not like the live game, but the slot machine.

  9. I was considering upgrading to Free at Sea PLUS.  Honestly losing Veuve isn't the end of the world for me, but it makes me pause and wonder what else could change between now and my cruise to devalue the upgrade.  I'll probably just stick to the standard Free at Sea.  Not willing to gamble my $300 to upgrade and just have it further devalued.

This will be my first NCL cruise and I'm already feeling distrustful of the company.

The last time there was an AMEX offer we were able to finish up our $1k with about $200 in refundable OBC, and we received the reward.

So if I don't spend the full OBC, then I can refund it to a different card at the end of the cruise?

  11. I have the offer -- spend $1000 get 25,000 rewards points.

If I purchase $1000 on board credit and don't spend it all, can I get it refunded or do I lose it?  Trying to figure out a way to hit the $1000 threshold as I'm cruising in July and have already prepaid for the cruise.

When I had an issue booking a Specialty restaurant I used the chat feature and was booked within minutes. Try it.

Thank you.  I just tried this and they said I'd have to book onboard.  I can book other restaurants though.  Strange.

We were on the Spirit post drydock major refurbishment in Feb 2020. You can see the photos I took on board the new Miss Spirit: the link to the thread is in my signature.

    Enjoy!

I noticed you were in room 11038.  Was it loud from the gym above?  I'm in room 11010 later this year and worried it will be loud.

it's actually 5'.11" deep.  if you look close, there's a decimal point on the sign.  it's dumb and i have no idea why they didn't just make it 5' even.

ETA: other people have claimed this is incorrect, but i'm 5'8" and i was able to stand with the water basically just above my shoulders.  seems like those people just don't know how tall they are haha.

Yeah, it is definitely not 5'11" deep!

We are just off a 16 night South Pacific cruise on the Spirit...wonderful refurbishment...ship looks fantastic...we are on the Spirit before refurbishment as well.

Yes, I believe the casino was no smoking with a separate smoking area. We don't go to the casino but you had to walk through it to get to the Social Club and I didn't notice any smoke.

    What were the shows like?

  16. Always book direct for hotels and especially flights.  Don't use third party companies -- even "legit" ones like Expedia, Booking.com, Hotels.com, etc.

If anything gets messed up, the hotel/airline will require you go through the third party to get it fixed.

Booking direct you get the best prices, loyalty program benefits, and better customer service.

You can always do your research with a third party (I'll often search for flights using Google Flights and research hotels with TripAdvisor) but when booking, you should always go directly through their website.

As a veteran solo cruiser, I'm not sure why you would WANT to eat by yourself.  Ask the hostess for a shared table in the MDR.  Most of the time, you'll be seated FASTER than if you wanted a two-top to yourself.  You will meet a lot of new people.  Some you'll enjoy talking to, others you might not, but even with the bores or know-it-alls, you only need to put up with them for 60-90 minutes, and who knows you might meet some new friends or cruise long acquaintances.

If some night you absolutely want to be alone at dinner, go to Lido or ask for the single table, no one on the ship will give a flying you know what about what you do.

Some people, myself included, don't always want to make small talk and meet new people.
