Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. We had large duffel bags that had backpack straps, so we just walked. I wasn't really paying much attention to even if there were stairs, to be honest, but I'm sure there are elevators/escalators if needed -- it was a pretty standard train station.
  2. I was fully expecting to be walking onto a hot bus completely sweaty from dragging around heavy bags for several km, but the walk was absolutely fine, and then the bus was quite pleasant. One of those nice surprises, for sure. 😊
  3. Yeah, we were on Enchantment of the Seas, which I didn't think was terribly large (there were several other ships in port, including a Disney one, which looked bigger). We got there early enough and the buses just do loops, so it wasn't a big deal, thankfully (again, the air conditioning on the buses was great).
  4. In case it's helpful for anyone else traveling from Rome to Civitavecchia, we ended up taking the Frecce train then walked down to the bus stop for the Green Line. It was a fairly easy walk; we had large duffel backpacks and were dragging two kids with us and didn't have any problems. Just went straight down the main road (Cesare Laurenti, I believe) and around the north side of the fort. If you look on Google Maps, the bus stop is marked as "Royal Caribbean bus pickup" (it's the light blue location in the left-third of the image). It's not marked exactly, but if you get to that general area, you can't miss it. Unfortunately, I was just assuming we'd be in terminals 10-13, but our boat was actually docked in terminal 25, so we went to the terminal 10-13 stop, then jumped on another bus (they were queued up so we walked to the front one) and rode that one straight to Largo della Pace. From there, we took the ship-specific bus that took us straight to the terminal. Air conditioned buses all the way; it was very easy and comfortable.
  5. Sounds like this is probably the most painless way to go, with the least amount of running around and possibly backtracking. Thanks for the info!
  6. Looks like the only fare they have listed on their page (https://civitavecchia.portmobility.it/en/shuttles) is the "Direct Cruise / Railway Service" for €6 that's been mentioned several times here. So I'm fairly confident both the green line and blue line are free, but of course it seems like there's a lot of moving pieces and the info seems to be changing all the time, so we'll see what happens. Also, I noticed going further down that page that they have a map with the various stops -- looks like the Molo del Bicchiere stop is on the other side of the fort from the Google Maps location I'd previously noted: If you look at the area in Google Maps, there's a pin with a location marked "Royal Caribbean bus pickup" that looks like it's in this location: We'll be departing on June 12, on RCL Enchantment of the Seas. It'll be our first cruise, so there's a little trepidation, but our boys (ages 10 and 8 ) are already fairly seasoned travelers (we've taken them to Europe three times, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and all over the US), which definitely helps lessen the anxiety about catching all the various trains, buses, etc. Mostly, I'm just a planner and like to know all the details ahead of time and exactly where to go, backup options, etc. 😉
  7. Sounds good, I really appreciate the information. It looks like there's a shuttle that takes you from Molo del Bicchiere across from the fort to the terminals, but I wasn't sure where to get off. Looks like the shuttle also takes you to Largo della Pace, where I suppose we could also take the ship-specific busses that were mentioned.
  8. I've been digging through this for a bit now, too, and from all the available materials I've found, it looks like you'd be able to walk from the train station to Molo Del Bicchiere, which is right across from the fort. From there, it looks like there's a shuttle that will take you to Largo della Pace (the Blue line from that "Terminal ADM Sud" graphic you posted), which looks like it then continues onto the cruise terminals. But they also appear to have a green line that takes you straight from Molo Del Bicchiere to the cruise terminals, which is my plan: If you search "Molo Del Bicchiere" in Google maps, it shows up right across from the fort, and also appears to be in the place that they suggest to pick up a shuttle on this page: https://www.civitavecchiaport.org/from-civitavecchia-train-station-to-the-port/ Also looks like a much easier walk than trying to get straight to Largo Della Place: We'll see what happens this June. If anyone sees a red faced couple wandering aimlessly with two worn out young kids, please say hi! 😉
  9. Hi, we'll be sailing out of Civitavecchia in a few weeks and I was wondering when/where I would get information on the specific terminal we'd need to arrive to? It seems most of the large cruise ports have several terminals scattered across perhaps several km, and it would definitely affect whether we'd walk/bus/taxi around. I'm assuming it's info that will arrive in an email or the app when we get closer to our departure, but I just wanted to make sure I knew where to look, as I can't find any info about the various ports or even the actual times we're in port at the moment (does the My Calendar eventually show this info?). Thanks for any help.
  10. We're doing this trip as well -- going to be spending a few days on either end in both cities, should be a good way to beat jet lag and see a few things on either end. Also maybe it's just being from the USA, but we jump at any chance to ride trains, so riding for an hour with bags doesn't really phase us at all. Side note, are you on the June 10th sailing? (Saw your location -- my wife and I lived in Fairbanks for 6 years).
  11. Hi everyone, we'll be on our first cruise this June and chose MTD because the early dining time would have been too tight for us (lots of ports and we'll definitely be running around). I found on the Trip Planner that you could reserve times for the various days, but all they had was starting at 7:45pm. I was hoping to check and see if there were any earlier times available after making those selections, but it would only let me make one dinner reservation per day and wouldn't let me look at what's available unless I cancelled my current reservations (which I did for one day, and had to grab a later 8pm time which was the earliest available). Are we just stuck with these times, or is there a better system when we're on the boat that will at least allow us to see what times are available without dropping our current reservation times?
  12. Hey there, just joined the forum and was searching around and saw this post. We're in the same boat as you (literally). Also going to be staying at an Airbnb in Rome (sadly only for the two nights previous) and we plan on enjoying our morning before we get kicked out of the apartment, then heading out. If you see two boys (10 & 8 ) and their exasperated parents, please say hi. 😉
