We are on this Norwegian fjord cruise as well and I understand people wanting more authentic smaller expedition ships to go through the fjords. However This is quite gorgeous! Second to none. Truly spectacular and beautiful. Nothing to compare to. Nothing inauthentic about this. It’s a bigger ship and may not be able to go through every single Fjord….but what it does go through is spectacular, jaw dropping and very gorgeous! the scenery is every bit as dramatic and extraordinary - only we are on a jewel of a vessel too!. Our excursions are second to none. The experience is eye opening and showcases all the beauty Norway has to offer. Don’t be dissuaded…this experience is wonderful.

IMG_3419.mov Please watch…Yes, a bar in Olden, Norway - yesterday on May 8, 2024…played the song Con de Partiro “Time to Say Good-Bye” - a farewell to us on a loud speaker…. and waved to us on the ship as it left. It was very touching. Sentimental. Very emotional. Of course we were on front deck. It was the most beautiful experience.

We chose Silhouette because this ship allows access to the outside terrace at the front of the ship on two levels - Edge class ships only allow front of ship access to people in retreat class or first class! There was no access whatsoever on Edge class!

We went through the largest locke in the world last night!!! It is located at the mouth of the North Sea Canal with a view of Fort Island: IJmuiden Marine Lock. The lock is 500 metres long, 70 metres wide and 18 metres deep. Our captain is super delightful and charming. Captain Nigel Smyth - He has an Irish lilt accent.

Norway is banning larger ships to go thru Fjords…. Starting in 2026, only cruise ships powered by alternative fuels will be allowed to visit the fjords in Norway. Lawmakers want to protect the unique natural environment and stop marine diesel oil and mass tourism from damaging the ecosystem.

I hope the problem was rectified.it sounds horrible. We are also booked on a back to back cruise on the Celebrity Silhouette on April 22! i want to learn to play Mahjong too.

Just went on a Celebrity eastern Caribbean cruise where Dave Clark was the Cruise Director—- he said he was only filling in for the regular cruise Director. He was fabulous. It was my first cruise and I expressed how good he was to people we dined with ….they have taken more than 40 cruises and they said that there’s not a better cruise Director than him! I was lucky that that I got to experience the BEST….HE was an outgoing charismatic person who made you feel happy just to be on that ship! He was so hard working too. We’d love to take another cruise where he was the Director but I have no idea what ship he’s on!
