  1. floridafunlady, let me add when considering using a TA, ask them questions. 1. On any payment made, do they call into the cruise line, your requested payment or do they charge back to their office and send in the payment. Important, that they call a cruise line to authorize them to make a payment. Request an updated invoice when payments or changes are made. 2. Do they charge a fee for cancellations, changes to your booking ( cabin change, price drops ) Sadly some have experienced bad TA's which hurt the honest and excellent ones.
Thank you. I will follow that advice

  2. Thanks for everyone's feedback. We are multiple families so I think I am going to go with a TA that I know. It does make sense because the families will all be coming from different locations and the TA will help me coordinate it all....guess it was a no brainier after all. Again thanks.

  3. I have used a local TA since 2002 and any room changes, price drops, I can contact her office and it is taken care of. As mentioned others will tell you they prefer to book directly with a cruise line and get someone immediately while booking with a TA you could lose a change or price drop if over a weekend. For me, I rarely change rooms since I book early and get the room of choice. If a problem were to occur, my TA is right there to get the problem resolved. A TA won't be able to get you a lower price but can offer you other incentives. The important thing, if your happy with your booking that is main thing.
    Thank you great advice

  4. Personally we like using a TA and have found a really good one. Any changes I need to make or questions I send him a quick email and it's done right away. A good TA will also be more than willing to work out any issues that arise with Royal and it saves me from having to call. Plus we've always gotten a little bit of extra OBC usually. The one downside which isn't one to me is that you have to go through the TA rather than calling Royal directly for payments, room moves, etc. Some like to have total control over their cruise which booking direct gives you. It really comes down to a matter of preference.
Thank you. It's always been just my DH and myself on Royal. This time way more complicated

  5. My next Caribbean cruises are next November and I will get off at every port. The only one I'd reconsider staying on the ship is Nassau but I haven't been there in years so it would be nice to check out what's new.
I'm home there is nothing new in Nassau. In fact for shopping there is less and some of the resorts that used to allow day passes no longer do. The only reason I got off this summer was to buy Bahamian cotten dresses for my young grand daughters. Found them first in an alley store for 25.00 and passed. A shop girl told me to go to the Straw Market..... I said I would never go there again but found them and after haggle paid 2 for 27.00....but I still don't think I will ever have a reason to get off the ship again (moral, never say never [emoji3] [emoji6] )

  6. I am the poster who was concerned about booking at the last minute and being assigned to late dining. We boarded on Thursday and went to the dining room at the specified time to try to get changed to early or anytime dining. I also dealt with the female assistant. She put our cabin number on a list and told us to go to the Silver at 6:40 p.m. We would then be assigned to a table that had a no-show. She finished up the conversation by shaking her head sadly and saying, “It is such a shame, you had such a lovely table right over there!”
OMG. That is so funny...thank you for the update.

  7. This sounds very similar to ccl faster to the fun for which there is a fee.

There was one charge per cabin because cc assigns boarding times made it worth it because you can board right after suites and platinum but they messed up and we didn't get our luggage until muster. They promptly refunded as obc but it did cause a change in plan for the afternoon and at least I didn't have to stand in a long cs line

  8. Thanks, Bob

We signed up for the Capital One checking account. No foreign transaction fees. Our debit cards are on the way.

Havingfun2020--Taking cash from a foreign ATM does NOT have to include FTF's. I am not willing to spend an extra 3%, when there are options. If there were the same fees from every bank, then I'd suck it up and move on.

We are spending 4 days, 3 nights in Rome. We did a down payment for our apartment, and owe the balance in cash. We have a driver booked for transportation on 3 occasions, and he wants cash. We have a private tour and transportation to Florence from La Spezia, he wants cash. My DH wants to use cash for restaurants, cabs, gelato, and small souvenirs.

For the 4 of us traveling, we will be looking at over 2000 euro. 3% is 120 Euro--I'll keep that for more wine, pasta or gelato.

Thanks again, Bob! More of your helpful info

    Barb

Remember this the ATM's still charge an ATM fee besides the cost of the ftfs

  9. This. I was amazed how cheaply I could stock up on vodka. If only the ship's shop had whipped cream flavored vodka, my favorite.

I like to travel light, but I have to agree with you on how crappy the dryers are on the ship!

Reviews of 3-day cruises aren't that common, so I really appreciate that you are taking the time to share your experience. It never occurred to me that we could get stuck with a late seating booking last minute. I think, if we had late seating and couldn't get it changed, we just wouldn't eat in the main dining room which would be a shame but still better than eating at home. ;)

Even if you can't get early for MDR do go to Diamonds. It was well worth the splurge if it's in your budget

  10. Really liked your review and this is the best statement ever:

Guys you can be comfortable and still make the effort.

Goes for the women too. I think that is my issue. You don't have to look like you're mowing the yard but yes you don't have to do a tux to be "elegant"!

Thanl you...and yes I agree about the women as well....a shift dress and sandals are as comfortable as a tee shirt and cutoffs and flip flops and sure dress up the place

  11. Day 3 and disembarking morning.

Day 3 hanging out by the Riviera pool most of the day, dinner in the MDR. DH loved his veal parm. Wait staff did the baked Alaska dance. Then more live music party in the flower lounge. Casino pack.

This is huge....don't walk your bags off the ship put them out. Hardly anyone puts them out. It's easier to get off the ship without them. Once off the ship they are really easy to find. Get a porter because the porter customs line is non existent and he walked us to our car. It took us 9 minutes from the time we were off the ship to be on the road home. I guarantee the people who exited with their bags were still on the customs line.

All in all it was a great weekend. I'm ready to do it again
