  1. I prefer Hawaiian over any other American flagged carrier. I think the 737 was a good choice for interisland trips when Aloha Airlines used them 25 years ago. I dont believe it is customer friendly on 6 hour flights, By the 4th hour the restrooms are to be avoided. . i try to avoid all flights using 737s and believe Hawaiian Airbus planes are more comfortable then the competition Boeings.

Alaska air has no choice but 737. I am disappointed that Hawaiian ordered a bunch of 787s but they will probably be delivered late .

I have flown Alaska a couple times and on our last Alaska cruise we were booked on them but they dropped the service and we ended up on United.

This merger is sad news for me but it did double by hawaiian stock investment.

  2. Just off Muse last week. A pork chop and a veal scallopini were uneatable.

i think the menu said pork was from U K and the veal was Denmark.

Both were junk but I think they already know that.

The Crystal fans think the food. lectures and entertainment are better. The Silversea fans prefer the smaller ship and larger veranda suites, and are happy with the food. [as I was typing this @Texas Tillie posted with  exactly this about Crystal. Yes, Crystal expanded (and repriced) many of their suites and lowered the passenger capacity, but they couldn't shrink the old ships. The large size restricts where they can dock. I still remember being on a Crystal ship that docked in Laem Chabang, a very long (2+ hour) bus ride away from Bangkok, and then finally arriving and seeing a small Silversea ship docked right in the city.

Our only Silversea cruise started and ended in Laem Chabang. Silversea Spirit was cut in half and made longer. We were starting in Laem Chabang and supposed to end up in Hong Kong but covid hit during the cruise. We made it to Saigon but on our way to Manilla they closed the Philippines and Taiwan. so the cruise ended early and we were going to disembark in Viet Nam  then Saigon decided no cruise ships. We sailed in circles for a couple days till the captain could find us a port. It was back to Laem Chabang but we were happy to go anywhere. The bus ride from the port to the Bangkok airport at 4am was very long but not much traffic.

Silversea did a great job in a really lousy situation, and we are now on Muse out of Yokohama in October also going to Taiwan and Hong Kong with luck.

We did make it up the river on a prior cruise to dock in Bangkok on Azamara and it was better than Laem Chabang.

We did like the old Crystal but not been on the new Crystal but everyone agreed the rooms were small but the food and service were very good.

  4. Yes my email to  Silversea got answered by a scammer.

when i went back to look at the emails there is a message at the very top of the response that says

    "RE: [EXTERNAL] arrival" .

I had never seen that before and i just ignored it.

Also near the bottom there is a colored message i also ignored.

EXTERNAL EMAIL CAUTION: Use caution opening attachments or clicking links.

My original email to Silversea triggered an automatic response that they would get back to me within 2 weeks. A half hour later I get the scammer response and I am happy for such a quick answer.

  5. Got response from email I sent to Silversea. It looked legit so i called the phone number. i had embarkation question and the Indian voice requested my information. When he requested credit card information i said no and he said we cannot go farther without info. He hung up. Their scam number 800 772 9955 the real number 800 722 9955.

I am very surprised it was a reply to an email I sent to Silversea.

We are booked on Muse Oct 9 in Yokohama.

The ship overnights at the pier.

Can we arrive at the port between 7 and 8 pm for embarkation.

Do we need any special arrangements.

    Thanks

    Tom

  6. We are just back from Seabourn Encore Singapore-Philippines round trip. Our 5th cruise in last 14 months on 4 different cruise lines. All are having staffing problems. Most obvious in the dining rooms where you have the most interaction. Some days you get the experienced staff and your wine glass is full and you are done around an hour.  next night you get the trainees, and you beg for wine and water and it takes over 2 hours.

Tours have glitches also. Encore was the first cruise ship in 3 years at some of these ports but most went well.

all of the staff is well selected for their jobs. The experienced ones anticipate your needs and soon address you by name. the new ones need improvement but are trying to learn. experience over time is needed'

  7. just did it there last month. we went day before our cruise. no appointment just walked in. $60 added to our ship bill and results while you wait. 30 minutes total time .

they are open days when CCL and RCL ships are there. don't like price but service was excellent.

    Who cares what he makes

I am sure if those in charge  did not think he was worth the amount his contract would be terminated

If FDR works 40 hours per week for 50 weeks per year its $18,000.00 per hour.

Hard for me to see that for anybody's hourly rate.

    A mere $720,000.00 per week.

How many billions did they lose last year?

  9. We have taken Hawaiian there and back. 2019 Seabourn cruise start in AKL and return from SYD. I like the U S based crew on a U S airline. Going down is daylight flight but back is overnight so business class makes it ok. Not as good as Turkish or Emirates but best for this itinerary .

It sure would help others if you shared when your cruise was.  Some will read you post and think they can cancel a cruise coming up soon and get all their money back - which I do not think is true.

Covered in first post. July 13 , this week is final payment due.

  11. We booked Wonder, Alaska, July 13 for 3 rooms.

The final payment is due this week.

If I cancel I remove the financial risk but give up the rooms we selected.

Based on their new cancellation policy and original contract if I send them the $30,000 they then control all the conditions of the cruise.

We are four months away from sailing with "uncertain times".

Their temporary cancellation policy for European cruises moves the final payment and cancellation dates closer to sailing.

Our Alaska cruise is business as usual.

    any opinions?

  12. Well at 1030 last night we gave up getting our tickets and catching the bus   Then the couple we travel with called and said they just got their tickets and there was an 1130 bus. So I went down to reception and they said they were downloading them any minute. A half hour later they said they had printed and gave me the sheet. The sheet had a 9am flight to Dubai and then on to London. Turns out it was someone else’s tickets. 10 minutes later I was told that they had mine but it was too late to get the bus.
I went back to the room and waved goodbye to our friends from our balcony as they went down the gangplank.
went back down to reception and discussed options since the ship was leaving. Told them that we would just book our own return to Honolulu in the morning..

so at midnight We give up and go to bed.  At 1am they phone and and have us booked on a 9am flight and the 430 am bus, we agreed to that and am now sitting in the business lounge in Seoul waiting for our Honolulu flight home.
we will beat our friends who left last night by 12 hours.

the home office was absolutely atrocious at handling this and the crew on board were spectacular.

happy half way home and all is good.
