  1. Hello fellow sailors!

Was hoping to get some feedback on shore excursions for the Southern Isles itinerary in Guadeloupe and St Lucia.

Does anyone have experience with "Sail and Snorkel Into The Biosphere" vs "Coral Island Snorkel" in Guadeloupe?

In St Lucia: "Off Road, Sailing And Beach Bum Combo Pack" vs "Pitons, Botanicals and Bays From Land To Sea?"

    Thank you!!

OK, this is a clear call for me.

La Spezia / Cinque Terre is one of the 10 best cruise ports in the whole world, I doubt that anyone who has ever been to Cinque Terre dares to deny this. Naples is also one of my favorite ports in the Med, one of the few I could go 10 times and always something to do and see (and eat). Palermo and Valletta are both nice ports for a fine city walk, but not the category of the two others.

So I would only choose the Europa if you are 1000 percent sure that a later (better sooner) day you will visit Cinque Terre anyway and 100 percent sure about Naples.

If you choose the Fantasia starting the cruise in Naples is the best choice for a lot of reasons🙂

Thank you!   That is the feedback I wanted.   Ultimately for me the ports are most important.

We are looking at early March to completely miss the Easter/Spring break periods.

I was worried that Valletta and Palermo were more of a "beach destination."

Otherwise they are both 7 day cruises with one day at sea.

  3. Hello fellow cruisers!

Help me decide which cruise would be more enjoyable in March/April 2024.

    1. Europa (Palermo and Valletta the only new ports for me)

    2. Fantasia (La Spezia and Naples are new)

We will go early March or April 1 to 12 to avoid the worst of EU spring break.

    Thanks!

  4. Has anybody brought wine bottles on board for consumption in your stateroom recently?  We are on the Breakaway out of New Orleans in April.

If I am reading NCL's policy correctly,  it states that there will be no corkage fee assessed if the passenger has a beverage package, and there is no bottle limit.

    Is this true?

  5. Can anybody tell me if the toiletries that are supplied in the spa balcony category are restocked during the week?   I saw a you tube tour of the cabin and the author said only one set is given.   Need to know if I have to bring my own body lotion and conditioner!

  6. According to hubby, he saw cigar smoking on the designated side of the pool deck (port?.)  I haven't seen a cigar lounge.

InTENse, ice show and Voices were all good.  Haven't been on a ship with a Broadway play,  so can't compare!  TAP and Effectors still coming up.

So far I have liked the Voyager class the most.   What used to be huge now considered mid sized😅

  7. The rooms are wonderful:  calm blues and browns.  Wonderful closet and storage!

The shows that we couldn't get reservations for before the cruise opened up upon boarding (through the app.)  We also had no trouble going in "stand by."  Reservations that are not there by ten minutes prior get released.

Love and Marriage Show was at 3pm on the first sea day.

We'll be sailing Wonder next year, and I appreciate this info!

    - Does Wonder have nothing similar to the open Deck 4 that the medium-sized ships have?  That's a place we've particularly enjoyed ... as you said, after dinner strolls, also a good place to watch the ship come into port (we've sailed in interiors lately).  I don't think it's a make-or-break, but it is something we'll miss.

    - However, I do look forward to the jogging path.

    - I don't know for sure, but it seems logical to me that the lifeboats have "moved down".  Closer to the water, surely, is better.

    - We will have a balcony on Deck 6 on Wonder and are looking forward to having a balcony "as close as possible to the water".

    - I'd love to hear more about the entertainment -- are reservations necessary?  When are they available?

    - I don't welcome the "inward focus".

    - I don't welcome the louder Solarium -- if I want loud, I'll go to the main pool.

    - At this moment, yes, Voyager class is my favorite -- but I'm looking forward to sailing Wonder.

Our balcony is on deck 6, yes close to the water!  Here we are in San Juan20230201_185208.thumb.jpg.c610321cfd598f5d211aad8c2c20b2c0.jpg

  9. I am currently sitting on my ocean view balcony about halfway through the Wonder's Eastern Caribbean itinerary. Clearly the wifi package is working beautifully!  This is my first experience on the Oasis Class or larger,  so some preliminary thoughts.

I miss the open water views on the promenade deck (deck 5.)  Now it is primarily a jogging track with views almost entirely obscured by the lifeboats except for the aft section.  It's a great boon for joggers, because threading through the sunbathers above the pool was never a viable option.   Now deck 6 can have balconies because lifeboats moved down.   I understand the reasoning,  just really miss after dinner strolls.

    Entertainment is amazing. Period.

    New menus are good.

I feel like in general this class of ship has its emphasis inward: the promenade, central park, even boardwalk with very little reminding you that you are at sea.

Solarium is positioned nicely forward. Not as stuffy as some posters have mentioned.  It's a little loud at times.

Overall, I would cruise on this ship again,  but I think my favorite size is voyager class.

A day at sea beats a day at work anytime!

  10. Where do you drop off luggage in Whittier? It looks like there are covered walkways all the way to the train. Are the porters there or are they at the building where you check in?

    Thanks in advance,

    Dawn

We were there so early that the porters were in the center of the parking lot which is outside of the covered walkway. I just had my 15 year-old wheel all of our luggage over to the porters and then they took care of it. It was maybe a 15-foot distance.

If you are coming off the train, perhaps there are porters that meet you at the train. We were walking from the hotel...

  11. For your cold and rainy day in Ketchikan, would you have recommended rain pants? What clothing would have made it more bearable?

I WAS wearing quick dry pants and a waterproof top layer jacket. The kayak company also gave us pants and a top and then we had an apron that pretty much sealed us into the kayak.

It's just that there was already water in the kayak, my shoes were kind of wet to begin with. I wasn't comfortable with my vision when I had the hood pulled up, so I just used one of those wide-brimmed waterproof hats. It was pretty much a light steady rain and after a while you just get wet no matter what you're wearing!

I think some of the locals in Juno were joking that Ketchikan weather is fit only for a duck!

  12. We did, and left our luggage at the Inn on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, we were able to give our luggage to the Princess porter at 11:30am, even though check in did not start till 12:30. Plenty of folks were getting on the glacier cruise just before we were able to get on the Star

    You should be fine!
