    I can fully understand that. Alaska is a bucket list for me. But not foreseeable future. My work really limits how long I can take off.

    Nah, they don't want their existing passengers to spill away from their brands. In Sydney it is very mixed, but not so in Brisbane. Going forward, Brisbane will have two Carnival ships, a summer of Royal Caribbean and a short Princess season. For Brisbane P&O cruisers, Royal Caribbean is already preferred ahead of Carnival. The board and management of Carnival care deeply enough to have us thinking we are on a winner, so that Bradbury of the Seas doesn't become Brisbane's year round ship.

     

    Over time, I think Carnival will adjust their brands to match our market - more Princess, less Carnival. If Princes offered winter cruises out of Sydney or Brisbane, I would have no reason to cruise on Carnival at all.

    Don't tease us with the suggestion of a winter princess season. 😜

  3. I watched this episode too, it was facinating to watch. The way some of the ship crew acted was a bit iffy, but I have a lot of respect for the entertainment crew who pulled through.

     

    I'm also, odd. I know that this show would turn a lot of people off cruising, but I found it reassuring to know that everyone survived despite all the errors.

    They do need a hook though. For mine, they need to find a way of turning P&O passenger goodwill into a tangible benefit on Carnival, or risk losing them to other brands. I reckon it would be cheaper to woo existing P&O cruisers than to advertise for new cruisers to replace them.

     

    Either way, I think there is some interesting news for Carnival to drip feed us with.

    I wonder if their big bosses are working in a mindset of, "we don't care if the locals aren't happy. We have more ships down there than anyone else, if they want to cruise, they will come to us."

     

    Edit: however, it is also a seems a bit silly that they didn't run a bit more Carnival centric advertising down here before pulling the plug on P&O. I've seen a bit more for other Carnival owned lines on TV this year, but not Carnival itself.

     

    (I tend to be sceptic of big cooperation's view of their customers)

    Yeah, I've been doing some reading over in the Carnival form (some of the attitudes have remindedme we I stay out of there). Seems a lot are excited for the possibilities the two "new" ships will bring. But they really aren't new. Wasn't P&O Australia basically been the retirement home for Princes ships?

    I just see this as as meaning the can pull the ships from down here when they want to. A bit harder to do if the ships are sailing under P&O "Australia"

  7. The thing which worries me is the "buisness as usual until March 2025." Maybe they don't plan any changes yet, but situations like this can be hard on staff (even if the same parent company). Mix that with customers having their last "P&O AU cruise" and I can see a change to the atmosphere onboard in the coming months.

    (Or maybe I'm just salty over past experiences with things like company merges from an employees perspective 😅).

    Might be worth getting a second pillow for travel? When you get home you can douse it with bug spray and let hit air out and still have a clean pillow to sleep on that night.

  9. I'm so sorry to here that this experience has been so awful for you. The presence of those bed bug would have been bad enough without then dealing with this ongoing fallout.

     

    Honestly, I don't blame you for not taking part in the Accurate Affairs interview. Personally I never trust those sorts of shows to present things fairly, they just go for the story which will get them the most views.

  10. The idea of bed bugs and the possibility of bringing them home terrifies me. I've never encountered any, but still always check and take precautions.

     

    I'm doing a week trip to Sydney soon and my sister plans to take her own pillow and blanket to the hotel. I would never do that for fear of bed bugs coming home.

    I feel I got a pretty good price for my booking too. This cruise is my replacement for a cancelled Vorgin Voyages cruise. Got balcony for a similar price as the solo inside cabin on VV. A little lively wouldn't be too bad for me.

  12. Glad to know it should mostly be avoidable and shouldn't impact normal activities too much. It could encourage a slightly younger demographic and I'm younger than the average cruiser, which could benefit me. I'm sure their will be plenty of partners who aren't big into footy and are coming along just for the cruise. 😅

    Yes, Sydney hotels are generally more expensive than Brisbane. My go-to budget hotel in Sydney is the Great Southern. It's on George Street, right opposite a light rail stop that takes you and your luggage down to Circular Quay. An old fashioned large hotel, not fancy, but clean and with good bathrooms, and lots of good eating places around it.   My other choice is the Grace Hotel, closer to the port, costs a bit more, but often has discounts.

    In Brisbane, I usually stay in the suburb of Hamilton, which has a range of accommodation choices, and lots of places to eat dinner. Plus it's a good location for minimising taxi fares from the airport and then to the port.

    The Great Southern is my go to in Sydney, too. Only short walk to China town restaurants is an important point too.
