Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Good information to think about for sure. I would assume I could prepay this via the Princess app on the day of the cruise, correct? Cruise embarks in a couple of days at 3 p.m. Seems logical that I could, for example, get on the Princess app. and prepay these gratuities maybe at 11 a.m. on the day of embarkation once it's clear that the cruise is still going to take place and not be cancelled? Thoughts?
  2. Looks like we have the option of pre-paying $160 each for all 3 of us that will be on the ship to cover gratuities. I'm thinking the best decision may to be to go ahead and do this and get this out of the way. Thoughts based on what most of you typically do with respect to this?
  3. No worries... will have a nice pear of jeans with me and will likely wear those as to not run into a situation of showing up at dinner and having to go back to the cabin to unexpectedly change. 🙂
  4. Many thanks for the clarification. Helps us greatly in not taking along unnecessary documents that we don't need.
  5. No worries at all, as I'll have nice jeans with me and maybe a pair of khaki pants as well so I'll be prepared for whatever dress code-wise if shorts are permitted. 🙂
  6. So I'm assuming a nice pair of khaki shorts and a polo shirt would be equally fine in the two restaurants I mentioned?
  7. We have an upcoming cruise on the Emerald Princess on a 10-day Southern Caribbean cruise. My wife, daughter (19 years old), and myself. I keep on coming up with questions and sincerely appreciate the helpful responses I receive from this forum. Question 1: We have dinner reservations at Sabatini's Italian Trattoria and Crown Grill during the cruise. For a guy, am I good in those restaurants with a nice pair of jeans (no holes or tatters/etc.) and a polo shirt and loafers? Just making sure I'm clear on what to pack. Question 2: I've seen various info. on passports and the mention that the passport should have been valid for at least 6 months prior to the departure of a cruise. We just got our daughter's passport renewed about 3 weeks ago and have the passport in-hand now as of last week for our cruise coming up in a few days. Her prior passport was obtained in 2019 at which time she was only 14 years old. In searching for our passports in our house a month ago, I became aware that her original passport was only valid for 5 years and had literally just expired (I thought it was valid for 10 years), so we got her an appointment and did a rush of the new passport a few days after the original one expired. We can take her birth certificate and both the old/expired passport and the newly-obtained passport, and her drivers license, just in case for additional proof that she is who we're saying she is, etc. Anyone know about the 6-month rule w/the passport? Many thanks in advance for answers to either/both of the above questions!
  8. Seems like it's maybe the Smoking Rooster from what I can see, but thank you for the recommendation!
  9. https://www.princess.com/cruise-search/details/?voyageCode=E414 For the ports that this specific cruise visits, can anyone more knowledgeable than me advise if for all these stops if you're able to pretty much get off of the ship and walk a few minutes to a beach to chill at and restaurants in walking distance? Just trying to plan ahead for transportation if in any of these ports, we'll get off the ship and there won't be a nearby beach and/or restaurants to explore without hailing a taxi or something. Thanks in advance for any info. anyone can provide.
  10. Thanks for the feedback. That helps. I don't think we'll be doing much at ports aside from hanging out on the beach or grabbing some lunch. We have one excursion at one port that we'll be doing and that's already been prepaid. I don't think we're going to be doing extensive shopping and/or buying a bunch of stuff at markets / souvenir items from port to port. Your suggestions helped give us a few extra things to think about as far as how much $ to likely bring to be safe in case something comes up.
  11. So for starters, I know that most everything on-board the ship can/will be taken care of via the Medallion device that's attached to either a debit card or credit card, gratuities for the ship personnel and so forth will be charged to our credit or debit card, etc. For when we stop at various ports (6 of them I think), what would you think we'd need to have on us for the entire trip (3 of us) to cover anything we might buy (lunch or souvenirs or whatever) for the 10-day voyage? We don't want to be somewhere without cash and need it, but I also don't want to be wandering around with way too much cash on us that a target for theft or loss or whatever. Haven't taken a cruise in about 25 years, so we're rusty on some of this stuff. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
  12. We have a 10-day cruise coming up. We haven't traveled on a cruise in about 24 years. I have a few questions I'd like to post here for some recommendations/feedback, please. 1. Looks like a lot of people get the 1-device wifi plan for the duration of the cruise for about $250 and just share it device by device, one a time with the people in the party and that seems to work pretty well from what I see? 2. We live in the United States and have ATT cellular service. To not get hit with unexpected charges, it looks like we need to just turn off mobile data on our phones while traveling and only make calls while on the ship with the phone that's currently connected to the ship's wifi, doing so via wifi calling enabled on our phones? Just trying to make sure we don't miss something and goof and return home to find large, unexpected charges via our wireless carrier and that if we only make calls on the device that's connected to the ship's wifi via wifi calling enabled on the device, then we should be good to go with no unexpected charges on our cellular plan? 3. Any recommendations on grabbing something to eat on this ship as it departs to begin the cruise? I've read some posts somewhere about everyone thinking just specific dining options are available as the ship leaves but others have said that other restaurants / dining options are up and running as the ship leaves but many don't know about those options. 4. We don't think we're going to upgrade to the Plus or Premier as we don't drink alcohol, 2 out of the 3 of us are fine to just drink water and whatever else may be included beverage-wise in the "regular", non-Plus / non-Premier category, and 1 in our party may get some iced tea from time to time. We tend to think that Plus or Premier would be overkill without much added benefit to us. Please feel free to advise if anyone recommends Plus or Premier even with what I mentioned in mind. 5. We're in P311 on the Plaza deck. Anyone that's aware of that deck have anything specific to recommend as far as a restaurant or something else of interest that's close to that cabin that we need to make sure we know about / not to miss / etc? 6. Anything else at all, YouTube channels I should watch for additional tips, other forums / blogs you've found helpful that I should consider visiting, etc. are all very welcomed if you have suggestions. Many thanks!
  13. We have a multi-port USB device as well and will be bringing that for phones, electric toothbrush charging, electric razor charging, etc. Will need several regular plug-ins for a laptop and a few other devices.
