  1. Vikings reply goes against what is on MVJ - this is a quote from the PDF form you can download to purchase the Silver Package.

"The Viking Ocean Cruises Silver Spirits beverage package includes any drink up to $15, throughout the day and anywhere on the ship; mini-bar replenishment; TheChef’s Table premium wine pairing; and 15% off premium beverages, Armagnacs and bottles of wine over $50."

    Confused!!

  2. We are on the Orion in September (first time on Viking) and despite all of the negative comments we will definitely give the Chef's Table a try - for us it is all about trying something new.

One question though - I am thinking of taking the Silver Beverage package and wondered how it worked in the Chef's Table a) if we don't have the Silver Package and b) if we do. Is there any benefit? Can I 'upgrade' the wine in CT just for that night? If so how much?

    Any opinions welcome - thanks

  3. Just to throw another name into the mix - we used SPB Tours in SP a few years ago (2012, doesn't time fly!). They were great. IIRC there were 12 of us on a minibus (10 from NY and us 2 Brits) and we all got on great for the 2 days of the tour. They did it in the reverse of the ships tours so we did the furthest sights on the first day (Palace etc.) and the ones closest to the ship on the second (Hermitage etc.) Yes it was a very busy couple of days but we were never rushed.

We also used SPB for a tour of Berlin which was equally as good and well organised.

I would have no hesitation recommending SPB

  4. Have to agree with Cybercat - There are lines that have all the entertainment you could wish(?) for and more. Viking seems to be that little bit different.

We certainly don't need to be entertained all the time - the allure of cruising for us is meeting new people (not necessarily like minded), chatting in an atmosphere you can hear yourself in and getting away from the media rat race.

  5. I have to admit to being a bit of an organiser. On a previous cruise about 12 of us arranged to meet in a restaurant in the departure port. It was quite an experience as none of us knew what each other looked like and you do get a 'picture' in your mind. Needless to say most turned out to be completely wrong.

On another, I made name badges for most of us who had signed up for the meet and mingle and brought along a bunch of lanyards to hang around our necks. We agreed to meet at the first sail-away in one of the bars - there were probably about 30 of us.

As has been mentioned earlier, we also made some lifelong friends this way.

  6. Hi photopro2,

We are UK customers too - couple of quick questions if you don't mind!

I notice you sail in March next year - did you arrange to pay your balance early so that you could get your air tickets early?

Did you sort out your seats or did your TA have to do it?

    Thanks

  7. thanks for that photopro2

I guess I need to decide whether to pay in full sooner so that I can get the flight I want and any upgrade I might decide on.

Sailing in September 2018 - final payment due 30th June 2018 - Flights will be out end of September ish i think

  8. Not really mini-bar, but still drink related. I have seen one of the Daily papers which mentioned that the Silver Spirit drinks package does not include bottles of wine (which I knew) but also that drinks in Torshavn were not included.

Can anyone confirm or otherwise please
