Hi..here is my VERY recent video to Fort James Beach. I did not stay at Beach Limerz this trip as it is no longer owned by Gail and Barry, and a good deal of thier beach has washed away. BUT..Fort James Beach is still amazing..we had it all to ourselves for the whole day! It is a 10 minute cab ride from the ship.If you don't want to watch the whole video, the  Fort James Beach section begins around  2 minutes 30 seconds into the video.

Does Ft. James beach have chair rentals or somewhere to get refreshments?

  2. We just came back home yesterday. We never really went on the interior of the island as we walked from the ship to a dock and took a water excursion. From the ship we could see many of the buildings along the water were boarded up. As we viewed the shoreline from the boat tour we saw a lot of destruction. It looked like a war zone on the French side. We saw many boats on their side or with just the mast sticking out of the water. Most of the beaches were empty and those that had people had very few. There was one hotel that the only thing that was left was the concrete it was built out of. The windows had been blown out, along with the curtains and furniture and everything inside.

We did not venture onto the island itself beyond the beaches we stopped at but we met others who did. One couple who had never been to St. Maarten before kept exclaiming what a beautiful island it is.

Air traffic onto the island is down more than 60%. All those people who worked in those hotels and restaurants are unemployed. They need your money. Spend it. Go on an excursion of some sort. Tip generously. Buy things. The beaches are still beautiful. The water is spectacular.

  3. We just got off Harmony yesterday and have also sailed on Allure. As of others have said, they are very similar ships. If you have children or young adults, Harmony is probably the better choice because of the dry slide and the water slides. Don't get me wrong.....Allure still has PLENTY to do! I have to say that overall, I did like the shows on Harmony better. With exception to the water show. The one during the day that needed no reservations was great but the other one I found a bit boring. But the other shows were fabulous! We visited 4 specialty restaurants. I was not fond of Jamie's Italian at all. My food was tasteless. I heard others had a great experience so it could have been what I ordered. 150 Central Park, Chops and Wonderland were all outstanding. Wonderland is a fun and different experience that you cannot get on Allure.

The cabins on Harmony seemed a bit larger to us. They are sleek and modern. Not sure if they are actually any bigger, but they felt it.

We loved both ships. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

  4. We were also on this same cruise. Loved it! Did notice the shortage of bar waiters in the lounges.

Loved SILK. Did not think I was going to like it. Went twice and had a great experience both times.

Loved the overnight in St. Maarten. We also took advantage and had dinner on the French side. Would have liked the overnight better if we had arrived earlier and actually had two full days there. But then, the extra sea time was nice too.

The "Voice from Above" (Captain Leo) was very funny and personable.

Hadn't sailed Celebrity in a few years. While a few things are different, they are still maintaining their great service and food. Classy line. Booked on Reflection for 2017.

  5. I see QSine listed as one of the restaurants on Reflection but I don't see any information on pricing and reservations. Is this restaurant still on board?

On another note....if I make reservations for shore excursions and dining packages before the sailing, do I pay for those now or can I use my on board credit to pay?

    Thanks

  6. I can't wait!!!! I'm putting this on my wish list for my 60th birthday celebration!!! Sailed her in 1967 when coming back to the US to live. I have vivid memories even though I was only 7. Still have my charm bracelet somewhere. Hopefully I will be able to dig it out.

  7. We just got off Equinox. We went over to the French side for dinner. Highly recommend Bistrot Caraibes.

Our friends did an excursion with a sunset boat ride to the french side and cocktails and hors douveres. The bus was late taking them to the boat so they missed sunset. Other than that, they enjoyed it.

We did not hear anything negative from anyone who had been out and about right near the ship. However....when we returned from dinner the show on the ship was PACKED so I don't know how many people were roaming about in town.

  8. Just got off the Equinox. i did not specifically go to bars to listen to the music. However, we did hear the bands that were in the grand foyer when we were in the card room. We did not hear ANY good music coming from there. There was a band and also a single vocalist....or maybe it was two guys. i don't know specifically but none of it was good music. Very disappointing.

  9. We just sailed Oasis and had 6:30pm reservations at Solarium Bistro one night. The reservation showed on our TV under all our reservations BUT....for that same night at 6:30 it also said "Dinner at Divinely Decadent". We have NO IDEA what that was. Several dining supervisors and also the guest services people had no idea either.

Any fellow cruisers have any idea? it sure did sound heavenly and I hope I didn't miss anything exciting.

  10. The difficulty finding decaf tea drives me crazy! I drink Lipton Decaf. When they offer me some sort of Lemon zinger stuff or some other "herbal" stuff it makes me nuts! To me, that is not tea! It's herbal stuff. I compare it to offering a coffee drinker hot chocolate instead of coffee....yes, it's a hot beverage but that's where the similarity ends.

Coffee drinkers would never stand for the difficulty in finding decaf.

I bring my own to be on the safe side but I still wish they'd just have enough on the ship!

  11. We haven't cruised in a while so i haven't been on CC boards. We're cruising Oasis November 29th so I've been perusing the boards. I've noticed there is no chatter about the famous roast beef sandwiches. First time I sailed Oasis there were TONS of posts about these fabulous culinary delights!

do they still have the roast beef sandwiches in Central Park?

  12. I recently had the opportunity to be instrumental in helping to facilitate a long awaited reunion between twins and their father who had been a waiter on board the Oceanic. He fathered these boys with a Bahamian woman and was part of their lives for 8 years. He then left and they never heard from him again. I believe there was some sort of discord between the mother and father.

Through Facebook I saw this young man was looking for his father. I am in touch with my waiter from my first Home Lines cruise and asked if he knew this waiter. He knew who he was and the name of the town in Italy where he was from. I googled the guy and the town and came up with a telephone listing of 4 men. I forwarded it to the young man looking for his father. The third person on the list was his father.

A few months later the young man, his wife and daughter, as well as his twin brother went to Italy to reconnect after 20 years. During the first 8 years of their lives, the father's busboy while on the ship also came to visit when the father came to visit. They remembered him and he lives near the father. They got to see him as well. His family welcomed them as if they were their own. So, they now seem to have TWO Italian families!

It was a spectacular visit to Italy that far exceeded their dreams. Oh....the magic of the internet!!!! And of course, my sweet Carmine who helped with some translation issues and helping recommend hotels and even arranged for his cousin to pick up the family from the airport.

We leave tomorrow on a cruise. I sure do wish we were hitting Nassau so I could meet this young man in person. He seems like such a wonderful young man.
