30 years ago today I set sail aboard my first Home Lines cruise on the Oceanic. It was magical! :)
-
I usually don't remember the Cruise Directors. We've had some that have done a good job and others that were just okay. BUT, when we sailed Oasis last year, RICHARD SPACEY was SO head and shoulders above the rest that we definitely remember his name!!!
We'll probably have Ken Rush on our upcoming Allure cruise. I haven't seen him mentioned on this thread. Is he good?
-
Enjoyed your pics jdm. When I was showing my mother before we went on Oasis, she said "Did he have time to do anything else besides take pictures?" LOL! I sure hope you had a chance to enjoy the ship. I got so involved in having fun that I didn't take many of the pics that I meant to take.

No, we did not spend New Year's Eve on board. We sailed the end of January. That menu was from the gala dinner.

I'm not sure if I'm posting this correctly, but just in case anyone missed it....

Did you check out S/S Oceanic The Love Boat on Facebook?
-
Massimo.....
Are you on Facebook? If so, Fabrizio is on there as well. There is a FB page called S/S Oceanic The Love Boat and Fabrizio just posted some pictures there the other day. Maybe you will find some others you worked with too.
The internet is wonderful, isn't it? Facebook is especially amazing!
Have fun catching up!!!
PS - your English is VERY GOOD!!! I'm guessing you are living in the US now?
-
I wasn't able to make the event last night. :(
Do you have any photos, Steve?
Thanks!
-
Thanks for posting this Steve. If weather is okay, I think I am going to try to make it to this!!! Now.....if only I can find my SS United States charm bracelet, I will wear that to the event!!!

I took my first Home Lines cruise 28 years ago today! No....my memory isn't THAT good.....I recently came across the original ticket and memorabilia from the cruise). Sailed on the Oceanic! What a wonderful and very, very special week.

Is there a reunion being planned? When is it?
-
Oh yes.....many of us miss the old style of cruising. The small ships. The elegance. The outstanding service of the all Italian crew!

Tori.......
I FOUND SOMEONE WHO KNOWS DINO VECCHIO!!!!!!!! I am working on getting an e-mail address. This guy's English seems kind of limited, so hopefully he understands what I'm saying. I asked him if he knew Dino and if so, does he know how I can get in touch with him. This was the guy's reply....."ciao i know dino lo vecchio if i see him i teel him ok we look for photo for passeger e crew ciao"
Not sure exactly what that means. I e-mailed back and asked for an e-mail address. I did not want to let him know why i wanted it.

Tori,
I remember your mother posting about you. I have some pictures of him from about 1983. If you let me know your e-mail or facebook, I can send them to you. I don't know what they did with the private message capability on this site!! GRRR!
I recently found my waiter from Home Lines. I will ask him if he knows Dino and if not, I will ask if he knows any way that you might be able to find him.

A few of us knew Dino Vecchio. Why do you ask?

There is a Facebook page for the S/S Oceanic! I think it's mostly crew members, but also some passengers. Who knows....you might reconnect with some of the crew you knew! There are some photos too, but they appear to be from very early.
Check it out on Facebook....

Oh no......no need to feel isolated these days....out on the high seas with 2,000-3,000 people!!! Almost a small town!!! LOL! Modern stabilizers prevent seasickness. Go for it!!!
Ahh yes......the service was beyond outstanding!!! We had this very picky guy at our table who complained about everything. Of course, this was in the day they made the Caesar salad at your table. He complained that 3 of them weren't right and the head chef came out and made it for him and he still wasn't happy!! At that point, I don't care what it tasted like, if someone went through that much trouble I would have eaten it. This guy complained about everything all week. Was just one of those who can't be pleased.
The bread we were served was FANTASTIC!! Maybe by the time I cruised, they were serving the passengers the yummy bread the crew got. LOL!
I recommend Celebrity for your next cruise. Go on.....you know you wanna!

Jack,
Sorry to hear that you haven't had another cruise experience since that first one. But, if you were only to have one, I'm glad it was on Home Lines. Nothing quite like it! My first cruise experience was also on the Oceanic, some 7 years after yours.
I have wondered over the years how my waiter was doing. Recently looked him up on Facebook and connected with him. Even had a video chat. Modern technology is wonderful!!!
That's a funny story about trying to hook you up with the 16 year old.
Now, go get yourself booked on another cruise!!!!
-
His name is Carmine.
-
You are right Nonnie.....and sadly, there is nothing upon the sea that can offer what Home Lines did. That first cruise of mine changed my life. I absolutely fell in love with cruising for one thing!!! It was also the first time in my life that I got involved so quickly with a guy without overthinking everything. That whole experience opened things up for me and I became more confident that I could take chances in life and things would really be okay. I didn't always have to take the safe route. I went home and a few months later I quit my boring job and went to work in the travel industry. A few years after that I went to work on a cruise ship. I had already met my husband, so that didn't last but 2 months before I came back. I have been in love with cruising ever since and our family has enjoyed many together.
I have recently found my waiter from that first cruise on facebook. We've chatted a few times and just yesterday we had a video chat and were able to catch up.
Be well.

Anybody ever find "their guy" on facebook and reconnect?

my very first cruise was as a little girl in 1967 on board the SS United States sailing back to the United States from Great Britain.
My first cruise as an adult was in the early 80's aboard Home Lines SS Oceanic. It was glorious and most DEFINITELY got me hooked!!!
