  1. Which balconies on the Royal Princess are fully covered? We hope to book our next cruise on her while we are on the Ruby next month.

They are all fully covered. No more of the tiered sides of the ship like the grand class ships. Almost all balconies are all tiny. I would never book one of those cabins. And the aft balconies get all the soot. There are few balconies that are larger around the bump out but that is it.

If you are huge balcony fan, then this class of ship isn't for you. Yes, we are going on the Regal next year but we specifically picked a large baloncy. (Moved from an aft one after the disaster on the Royal).

The Royal class ships are now our least favorite and we won't be on them much unless the itinerary is outstanding.

  2. Same thing happened to us. My husband had one more cruise that I did. We took those elite perks one cruise early! But it did bother me that he got his black card before me! :p

But I did make him use his card whenever paying for something so we could "show off" the black card.

Just silly stuff. Nothing too serious on this thread.

(But in the end I got him back sort of. End up "having" to take a cruise without him to get our numbers realligned. Unfortunately it was the Sandy cruise out of NYC!!!)

  3. ...We are hopping the Royal will have them when we sail in January.

We have the model of ever ship we have ever been on (except the Sun, hint hint hint) and they are all the same size. We have them lined up all together.

Well they changed the size of the Royal model and it's much bigger. But I don't think it's as big as the other ship's big model. So we are left with all the ships being uniform and then one bigger ship. The OCD person inside of me said no way and we left the ship not buying it.

The response we got was "different ship, different size". One of the only things (besides the soot) that annoyed me on the Royal. (And if the the size of the ship model was one of the only annoyances, then I'd say I had a good cruise!)

  4. What has been management (ship and/or corporate headquarters) reaction to complaints?

We have not heard back yet. But we are told that the person is overwhelmed with complaints and slowly working through them all. I'll let you know when they get back to us.

  5. Have you heard or read if the aft facing balconies are as bad on the Dolphin Deck? Thanks

While I can't confirm Dolphin deck, the layout of the balconies in a tiered fashion makes me think it's not good their either. People all down the back of the ship where extremely annoyed. You could see it in their faces!! You didn't need to even talk to them.

You migh want to post a separate thread specificly about Dolphin as it's farther down than where we were.

  6. I was just on the 11/10 sailing and the balcony was unusable for the entire 7 days. We did not sit down on your balcony chairs once. We were on Riviera which is complete uncovered (but HUGE!) and we had soot on there constantly. Even after they cleaned it.

We had a group on our balcony for first sail away and one of the woman's white shirt had black dots all over it by the time we went inside.

If it's not the soot, then it's the fumes.

Right before sailaway from St. Thomas everyone was out on the balconies (trying not to touch the railings!). Everyone was very unhappy. I shouted down the folks on Baja as theirs is half covered/half not (and was, I say WAS) our balcony for the Regal next year. Same problem for them. They were not happy either.

  7. Overall, I do not consider Princess to be a "late night" type of cruise line. The ships become pretty much a ghost town after 1 will many bars closing well before that.

I have never stayed in the casino past 2 as they shut that down too.

If the dance club is rowdy I hear it will stay open but I think it depends on the passenges and the DJ. Although I rarely go to the club. :)

Overall, I don't think that Princess passengers are late night folks. We run out of bars to go to quite early for it being a vacation.

Now every ship and every voyage is different. But I have never seen it go into the wee hours of the night myself.

  8. We had R734 which is right above and it was unusable any time the ship was moving due to the soot and fumes. Everyone was outside talking about it one day at sail away. We went out but as soon as the ship was under full power again we all went inside.

I shouted down to a person on Baja as theirs was half covered/half open and they had the same problem. We had that cabin for the Regal sailing next year and quickly moved to the side of the ship. And with the small balconies almost everywhere, there were very few cabin choices for us.

  9. hi sox fan ,it wont be hard spotting me! I streaked my top hair blond with buzzed sides but I think you will be hard to spot how many different groups of men will there be having drinks in a bar lol p.s. you wear a speedo at the pool maybe that's how I will spot you

We will be easy to spot too! We will be the ones wearing World Series Champions shirts and World Series Champions hats and World Series Champions sweatshirts and... :)

Seriously though, we WILL be wearing Sox t-shirts on embarkation and will be sitting around the pool watching the NFL. We will try and swing by crooners at 6. Will usually be in Wheelhouse around 7ish. Although one of our good friends is a bartender on the ship so we will need to find out where he is working and hang out with him.

I will send an e-mail to the one listed so we can stay in touch.

  10. I sail in 2 weeks and have an aft cabin on Rivera deck. It's completely uncovered. I'll report back.

It's a shame if this problem is that severe. These aft cabins are the only ones on the entire ship that I am willing to take on the Royal. I am a huge balcony user and could never be happy with those tiny ones on the sides!! Might be my only time on the Royal (or Regal).

  11. We are also huge balcony users. Even just coming back to the cabin and checking the outside for a bit.

I will never be booking a Royal or Regal cruise unless I get an aft balcony. Once those are sold, the ship will be sold out for me. Lots of other great ships in the fleet with which to sail.

  12. We were also affected by the cabin change but that's what we get for booking on a ship that isn't completed yet. We booked knowing that the ship wasn't built yet. They might make changes to it.

We book knowing that we are going to be one the first people on a brand new ship and we did it over a year in advance.

Sing it with me: "you take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have..."

  13. Where did I say that I needed to walk by the rail???

I said the deck was blocked completley for people to walk by.

Then I agree with you. I make sure that if I pull the chairs (not the loungers) up to the railing, that it's in a place where people have plenty of room to walk around.:)
