    Hey,

i’m onboard now. i’m in balcony stateroom 5168. There are no usb ports in the room. Am unsure if other rooms are any different. Have attached photo of the only powerpoint in my room. Hope that helps!! Sorry.

Thank you so much Jessbp!  Now we know for sure that we need to bring our USB charging station.  Have a great cruise!

  2. Hi, we are booked on the May 6th sailing on Carnival Legend and I have not been successful in finding out if this ship now has USB ports in the cabins.  I have seen conflicting information on that, so I want to be sure.  We have to fly to the port, so we don't want to have to pack our USB charging station if it is not necessary.  Thank you!!

    HI jc4me,

If I remember correctly, I believe it was around $239 per person.  Well worth it!!  Everyone's experience is always different, but we were extremely happy with Michelle and the crew there at Island Wings, and we would go back with them in a heartbeat!

Thank you so much!  That sounds like a reasonable price.  Will have to see if our group is interested.  Your review has certainly got me excited for our trip in May.  Based upon your review, we have rented a Jeep in Skagway to do our own thing.

I was surprised your “floating buffet” didn't include a visit to the Italian restaurant on embarkation day. We find it one of the few spots to enjoy as it is out of the way and not generally found until the first sea day. The only downside is the basketball court overhead.

I'm thrilled to see the violinists are on the Breeze. They were our go-to pre-dinner music on the Magic. We were hoping they'd be on board for the Journey's cruise next month.

I eat a low carb diet so on our last sea day I ate at Guy's BBQ place and then met up with everyone else at the Italian place.  They said it was very good, but so was mine!

  5. Our cruise was pretty smooth most of the time. The evening sailing out of Grand Turk there was a fair amount of ship movement caused by 5 foot swells which was a result of one of the tropical storms in the Atlantic according to the crew. The rest of the time, including the day at sea, was very smooth. You could feel some slight movement and the front and aft of the ship on the sea day, but that was about it. My wife is very prone to motion sickness and had no problems.

Thank you! That's good to know. I am prone to motion sickness as well and always have medicine if it is needed, but was concerned when I saw posts about how rocky things were. We have 12 days before boarding so I am hoping the Michael will be long gone and that nothing else will be on the way!!

  6. Friday, August 31st

    Skagway, Alaska

We originally had purchased the White Pass train with bus ride from Carnival. After reading about how another cruiser had rented a car and drove the same route, we quickly changed our plans. I cancelled our excursion with Carnival and rented a car with Avis.

We docked a little early and headed down to Deck 2. Disembarking this morning was much easier. Not many people were trying to get off right away so we found ourselves walking down the rainy pier within minutes of leaving our room. We were sitting right next to Carnival Splendor and we mixed in with their passengers offboarding.

Avis is located right in city center which is about ¼ mile from the railroad pier where we were docked at. As I mentioned earlier, it was raining pretty good, but we were decked out head to toe in rain gear, so it didn’t bother us at all. We made a quick stop at the train station’s little café and grabbed some coffee for me and a latte with expresso for Lady Trip. We then crossed the street over to the Avis building (note, their office is no longer at the Westwood Motel but is now across the street in their maintenance shed).

Safely buckled into our car, we headed out for the Klondike Hwy. What a drive!! It was rare for us to go more than a couple kilometers before stopping to grab some photos. The scenery was INSANE!!! The morning started very overcast and rainy but as the day progressed, the clouds cleared and the sun made its stunning debut.

Bridal Vail Falls. Apparently this is a great place to get fresh glacial water coming down from the mountains. Ahh...not today!! This was roaring and I got drenched taking this shot, the spray was so hard and bad.

It was neat that the U.S. Customs crossing and the Canadian Customs crossing were about 12 miles apart. Apparently, the weather is so bad on the White Pass summit that each country had to put their customs crossing on the opposite sides of the summit. To get an idea of how much snow they get on the summit, the markers for the plows were mounted into the side of the mountain. The markers back at home are only a couple feet high. These were like 20 feet high! No frickin’ way you are getting me on the White Pass summit in the middle of winter!!!

    Holy friggin' snowfall Batman!!

Anyways, the drive was incredibly beautiful. Plenty of waterfalls, majestic mountain peaks, turquoise lakes, and alpine forests abounded everywhere. At one point, I was so engrossed with the view while taking photographs, I found myself hiking several hundred yards away from the highway down a hill into a grassy meadow on the shore of a gorgeous little lake when I noticed that I was standing in a berry patch. Which I then remembered is one of the favorite meals for bears. It was at that point that I noticed a large pile of scat a couple feet away. That was one very large butt that made that pile and it was not a butt that I wanted to run into. It seemed like a perfectly good time to beat feet back up the hill to my car. Thankfully I made it back without depositing any of my body parts into a future pile of scat!

Bernard Lake, Alaska - Note the train tracks on the opposite side of the lake. These are the White Pass train tracks that we would have taken on our original excursion. This photo was taken just before the Fraser station where you exit the train.

Loving this review!! Do you have to take your passport with you if you rent a car? We were planning on the train ride, but the rental car looks like it might be a better option. Thank you for the time and beautiful photos!

  7. I’m so sorry, we got busy when we got home and I forgot all bout it. The resort itself is beautiful. Music, dancing, the Buffett ( which was really just a plate served to you with different foods) was good and decently priced. They had plenty of chairs and the service was excellent. But! The beach itself is horrible. It wasn’t bad, just ok. There seemed to be lots of sand fleas, and it’s not really in one of the prettier locations. We’ve done West Bay before and all we could talk about was how incredible the water was. You could snorkel right there off the beach. At Sol Y Mar that was t the case. Maybe it was just that way the day we went, but I’m not sure. If you are going to sit on the beach and relax and just play in the water it’s fine. If you plan on going for spectacular water and snorkeling I would go elsewhere. I’ll include some picture and you can decide for yourself. I will say this, it was very nice not having vendors constantly coming up to you. WiFi was spotty but otherwise they were an ok resort.

Thank you so much for coming back to check on us wondering how things are at Sol Y Mar!! Now I'm not sure what to do. Is the water clear there? We plan to snorkel at a few places during our trip, so I'm not so disappointed if we can't snorkel there, but I do prefer clear water. I won't even get into the water at the beach here because I can't see what's around me. Haven't actually swam in the ocean locally since Jaws was released, so that's been quite some time!! :o:oAlso, is there a choice on your food? Hubby is allergic to shrimp and I don't eat them, so that might be an issue. Thanks again for coming back!!

  8. I love this and that is what I did on my last cruise, mostly. I did indulge in some dessert at dinner but found that I really didn't want more than a couple of bites. With my regular food I found it easy to stick with the plan and ate basically what you mentioned. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Both are correct. It's 45 seconds for the test and 59 minutes 15 seconds for the sales pitch.

We did this a couple of years ago and the results seemed a bit off. At that time I was a junk food addict. DH ate healthy always. According to the analysis he was in worse shape than me!

IMHO, a waste of money...but, if it's included for you go for it. Our "professional" told us that he accepted tips at the end.

I really dislike sales pitches! I have read a little on the machine used and it doesn't look all that helpful unless you have your own data to compare it to....how do you know if your body composition is improving if you have nothing to compare it to?? I suspect that we will have it done just to know what our visceral fat levels are. Thank you for the quick and honest response!

  10. We are booked in a spa balcony on Breeze in October and one of the extras is a Body Composition Analysis. Can someone tell me how they do this? Does it become a huge sales pitch for their products? I looked up the machine online and it says that it takes 45 second for the test, but Carnival's spa menu shows it is an hour procedure..... Thanks!
