  1. We are on Azamara Journey docking at Vartahamnen V523 on Saturday 18 August at 9:30am. I have not been able to find out if the ship runs a shuttle, and if so, where it drops off.

We overnight and disembark on Sunday 19 August and will taxi to Radisson Blu Waterfront.

We have a full day in Stockholm on Monday 20 August and fly out the morning of Tuesday 21 August.

I have the information buying 72 hour travelcards from ICA Kavantum supermarket and bus #76 to go the Vasa Museum. Since Vasa opens at 8:30, we probably would not get there until 10:30 if we went on Saturday.

Would it be better to plan our visit to Vasa for early Monday morning? Or later in the day on Saturday or Sunday?

In the Q&A on the Vasa website, there is this comment: "usually les people in the morning 08.30-10.00 or in the afternoon 16.00-18.00. But it is impossible to give any guarantees"

If this helps - the cruise ship schedule (with arrival/departure times from port website) is as follows:

    18-Aug-2018 AIDAdiva 11:00 , Azamara Journey arrival 9:30 - overnight, Costa Magica - n/a, Neue Mein Schiff 1 08:00 - 18:00

    19-Aug-2018 Azamara Journey, Oceania Marina - n/a

    20-Aug-2018 Columbus 10:00 - 16:00, Zuiderdam 08:00 - 17:00, Viking Sea n/a

Just trying to figure out best use of our days/times. Thanks.

  2. I won't be on Oceania when I visit these cities, but if someone could give me some clues as to what the docking/tendering/closeness of location might be, I'd love it. I'm going to Naples, Cagliari, and Trapani - and possibly Algiers if it's not cancelled.

We were in Trapani on an independent land trip in April 2017. We saw the Prinsendam docked right near the center of town. Trapani isn't that big.

  3. Is the same Azamazing Evening you booked and have confirmation for still be offered in Journey Planner? If so I'd call and talk to Shore Excursions. If not.....see my experience below.

I booked the Azamazing evening for our upcoming b2b cruises this August several months ago. We're 1st time Azamara cruises so this was all new to me and I thought we were all set. When I recently went in to check my calendar and booking neither Azamazing evening showed. In my case it was because both had been changed to different ports. Luckily I was checking and noticed this as I had no notice from Azamara that there was a change and existing reservations were cancelled. Luckily I was able to book the "new" Azamazing evening.

Ours was the Baltics cruise that originally listed 2, then was changed to one, and Azamara emailed those who signed up, noting which was cancelled and which was scheduled. (I'm the one who started this thread.)

The good news - now it is back up in Voyage Planner.

We don't drink, but if this keeps up..... some Russian vodka may be in order. Azamara, PLEASE get some competent programmers. I'll buy them a round! (AFTER they fix your IT issues ;p )

  4. Ira,

Welcome back! Glad you had such a wonderful cruise. We are doing the 18 day Myths & Legends circling England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland next June, so I hope we are as fortunate with the weather. We were in Dublin for 4.5 days in November 2015, and only had less than a half day of rain altogether - but not being Irish, we can't count on their luck for good weather! Hoping we didn't exhaust our supply on that 2015 visit.

Looking forward to your report. Especially interested in what you did in the ports, how tendering went, and if shuttles were provided or needed in any of them.

    Thanks!

  5. Hi Marilyn

We (husband & myself) are on this Azamara Baltic Cruise & also staying at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel.

We could possibly share a taxi, but it would need to be a van I would think with suitcases to fit in. We will have 2 large ones & small carry on.

    Regards

    Jan

If you want a taxi I would suggest to arrange it an advance even though it might not be 100% necessary.

How to book varies between the different companies.

Taxi Kurir - bye phone or app https://www.taxikurir.se/

Taxi Stockholm - by phone, app or website https://www.taxistockholm.se/en/

Sverigetaxi (formerly taxi 020) Website or app https://www.sverigetaxi.se/

Taxi Stockholm is the only of these that have an English website.

The taxis are usually station wagons so they can take a fair amount of luggage.

    Hi Jan,

That could work. We'd need to coordinate disembarkation time. Pete and I usually travel light. Might be just 2 carryon size bags and 2 small hand baggage (personal item). Possibly 1 larger suitcase instead of 1 carryon - to be determined when packing.

Pickup this conversation over on the roll call.

    Marilyn

  6. We are also docking at Vartahamnen 523 on Azamara Journey. We overnight on Saturday and disembarkation is on Sunday (August 19).

I have previously found your information on the bus stop and the ICA supermarket to buy bus travelcards, which we plan to do on Saturday.

Do the buses run on Sunday? If we want to take a taxi to our hotel (Radisson Blu Waterfront), should we arrange one in advance, and if so, can you recommend how?

    Thanks.

  7. Frihamnen and Värtahamnen are about a mile apart - close, but not exactly next to each other.

I'm also not sure that size of ship is the only determining factor for these ports. In August, we are on the Azamara Journey, another former R ship, and we are scheduled to dock at Oceankaj in Copenhagen (as opposed to closer in Langeliene) and at Värtahamnen in Stockholm. My naive guess is that Oceankaj is better suited to embarkation/disembarkation than Langeliene, which is probably more suitable for just a port call. And we are overnighting in Stockholm prior to disembarking, so that may factor into the pier assignment.

In my experience, the port authority usually is the most accurate source of information, unless something changes last minute.

  8. Hello mice, I can confirm your Azamazing Evening will be in St Petersburg.

We will get the Voyage Planner information corrected. Sorry for the confusion!

    Bonnie,

Thank you. I posted to our roll call last night. I just now received email notice from Azamara regarding the change. Voyage Planner has been fixed. All good.

    - Marilyn - one half of "THE" mice :D ('cause we aren't just ordinary mice... ;p )

  9. Both AzAmazing evenings are still listed according to that link.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Yes, they are, but now the time for Gdansk has been changed to 7:40 ( I think it was 7:00) and seems quite short for such an event. Listed as 7:40 - 8:55 pm - so unless something is happening onboard, I can't see how an event involving transportation runs for only 75 minutes! The St. Petersburg evening is listed as 2 hours 45 minutes.

I would like to partake in one Azamazing Evening since these were not yet offered when we cruised Azamara in 2009, but I really would like to have accurate information so that I can plan for it. And, as I have previously stated, so that I can post to our roll call. No one there has mentioned it, because the few active posters have made plans many, many months ago. I don't want to post until I have a definitive answer.

Bonnie, help, please. Azamara should know what the situation is by now. Thanks.

  10. Attached is a photo of the cabin showing the TV (circled) on the angled end wall of the closet opposite the bathroom.

    THANK YOU!!!

I agree not the most convenient for watching from the sofa, but it's my DH who commandeers the remote control :D

and he loves to just lounge on the bed watching TV so he will be quite content. With him watching TV, then I can use our 1 internet connection - works for me! ;p

I agree with you as to these cabins. As I mentioned above, we had one (7006) on Azamara in the past, have 7007 booked on Azamara this August, and had to settle for 6005 on Nautica next June 2019, because it showed as the only cabin left on the circle Ireland cruise. I was happy it was one of these 4 unique C1s. The only difference in the deck 6 cabins that I am aware of is that they have a connecting door, but I understand it isn't a problem.

Thank you again. We are looking forward to our Celebrity cruise to Australia/New Zealand in October 2019 - I've wanted to visit for 30 years!

    - Marilyn

  11. OK, I searched and could not come up with any photos that matched OP's layout.

One would think that the TV would be mounted on the wall between the 2 large mirrors, but it is clearly not there as seen in OP's photos. Maybe 6005 will be different? ;p

Images I found are similar to the one LHT28 provided in the link in post #6, which does not match OP's photos.

Guess I will have to take some good pictures next June and post them on these boards.

  12. The OP has only posted 2x, with cabin images, so not expecting him/her to follow up here.

Stan & Jim - looking at the bathroom with tub in your image - that's an O ship layout. On Marina our stateroom was exactly like that.

LHT28 - that photo shows the desk next to that shelving where the TV is mounted. But in the OP's photos the desk is near the window and there is no shelving there. TV does not show in either photo and he didn't show photos taken from the window toward the rest of the cabin. On Azamara, there was no mirror at the end of the bed like Nautica has, so the TV was mounted there.

Photos on O's website for the C1 show a different layout than the OP's photo.

So, am I to assume that the TV is mounted on the wall/shelving that is probably outside the bathroom wall? Pretty awkward to watch from the sofa if that's the case.

  13. Thank you for these photos. Happy to see there is an extra chair.

I had this same cabin type (but 7006) years ago on the Azamara Journey, another R ship, and loved the extra space. Will be in on the Journey again this August in 7007 (with their new, modern decor). But we are sailing Nautica next June in 6005 - which was one of the last available cabins for the cruise that includes circling Ireland. Would definitely have preferred deck 7, but couldn't be picky at that point. Happy to be on the ship and in preferred size cabin! (but will miss the Marina sized bathroom....)

One thing I could not tell from your photos is where the TV is located since I see there is a mirror opposite the end of the bed, and the desk/mirror is opposite the sofa.

    Thanks.

  14. Understand that, but the Gdansk evening has been on the schedule since last year and the time in port was stated all along. Many of us have arranged our port days and are not looking at the Voyage Planner, so it was a surprise when I learned that St. Petersburg had been added.

Obviously, something is an error, and I agree, that Gdansk is probably it.

  15. Bonnie, just bumping this up so I hope you will see it.

For our cruise, the Voyage Planner is listing 2 Azamazing Evenings. The 1st, in Gdansk, has been on the program for many months. However, the 2nd one, for St. Petersburg was added sometime recently.

My TA called her Azamara contact and was told there was only one - the latter one in St. Petersburg.

But both are still listed in the Voyage Planner. Can this really be so?

Can you possibly find out what is correct?

    Thanks,

    Marilyn

  16. We cancelled our cruise to Japan when we discovered that one of my DH's meds was illegal there and he was unable to find a substitute that worked for him. Our TA was surprised, but we did not want to risk it. I had never thought about this before that woman was arrested last year (Egypt?) - once I did, I was very surprised at the various restrictions countries have.
