At 110 days out for our cruise, NCL sent us our flights. We used BOGO, and we're ok with our flights, but not entirely. We fly to Venice from Detroit on Oct 7 (2 Days early as planned). We go from Dtw-Ord, then have a long layover (3.50 min) before flying Lufthansa to Frankfort Germany. (2.20 min layover), then Lufthansa on to Venice. We don't arrive to Venice until 5:50p which is a little late for our liking. Return flight on Oct 19 is fine. Athens-Montreal on Air Canada, dept at 12:15pm. A 4.5 hr layover in Canada before arriving into Detroit about 9:30pm. That will work, but we are travelling with 2 other couples. They are flying on a totally different itinerary, but they got the same flights. We were hoping that all 6 of us would be on the same flights, but that didn't work out. The 4 of them arrive in Venice at 12:45p, which is perfect. I knew the risks, but we did save a little over $1000 to get the BOGO at current prices. Not sure if we will use the BOGO again. This is our 3 Rd time using it, and travelled with the same 6 people, but the 1st time we aren't all flying together. We will make it work.

We are already arriving 2 days early and staying in Venice. Hotels are pretty expensive there, so two nights will be enough to at least see much of the island. NCL advised that we have to be on the ship on Oct 10th in Ravenna by 5pm, we don't want to worry about getting to the ship on time, so we would like to be on board around 12-1pm.

A group of 8 have been informed that instead of getting on the Viva in Trieste in October, we will now get aboard in Ravenna, Italy. There were plenty of options to get to Trieste from Venice, but Ravenna has been a bit of a challenge. We are arriving two days early into Venice and staying in the City. We need some Cruise Critic people's ideas on the best way to get from Venice to Ravenna . I have seen that there are no local busses scheduled for that day yet. Scheduling a private transfer for 8 people with bags has shown to be quite expensive. Most prices for a large van has been anywhere from $1000-$1800 which I feel is a little crazy for a 2.5hr trip. I understand that they have to drive back to Venice possibly empty though. Does anyone have any better ideas?

In looking at the maps, there is a dock very close to apartment. It's called Riva De Biasio. It looks about 1 block away. -

Thank you for some great ideas. With NCL cruiseline, we won't know our flights until 30-45 days before departure. One issue is that one of the couples are flying from a different state, so we most likely won't be arriving in Venice at the same time. As far as the apartment owner giving us info. It sounds like a management company runs the Apartment. They have provided us minimal info, but we still have several months to finalize everything. -

After the bus/taxi or whatever we pick drops us off at Piazzale Roma, can we easily catch a water taxi there to dropped us all off near our apartment? -

I appreciate everyone's answers. I'm 65 yrs old, so I'm the youngster of the group, except my wife who is much younger. The 3 other guys are all in good physical condition, and shouldn't be a problem with them climbing stairs, even with bigger luggage. If they can't, I will be there to help. -

I had no control over the booking of the Apartment in Venice. It looks only like a 5 min walk or water taxi ( 2 min) from our apartment to the train station. The travelers that will be with us are 100 present mobile and can walk fairly good distances with their luggage. I think they can handle some walking. I just got to put out the memo on amount of luggage. -

Thank you for your expertise. It will help a lot. -
These questions have probably been asked several times, and I'm sorry if they have been, but I'm dealing with 8 elderly people taking a cruise out of Trieste in October on the NCL Viva, and we are all staying 2 nights before the cruise on Calle Zen street in San Croce, Venice Italy in a Beautiful Apartment I found for all of us. We took the NCL BOGO airfare, so we do not know yet what our flights are or what time we arrive at the Marco Polo Airport.( If we are all on the same flight). 1) what would be the best and affordable way to get from the airport to our Apartment? I hear there are transport vans available at the airport, but that they don't actually take us to the apartment. I also heard that once the van drops us off in the "central location" that we would have to take a water taxi which would stop close to our apartment. Keep in mind that all 8 of us will have at least 1 larger suitcase, and maybe a carryon also to lug around. 2) After our 2 night stay in Venice, I have decided that we should take a train from the Santa Lucia train station to Trieste, where our ship will be. Some have told me that we could walk the 5-10 minutes from our hotel to the train station (weather permitting), but others say that the bridge is very busy and that we should take transportation to the train station. What transportation is available from our apartment to the train station? Will the train have room for our luggage or are their restrictions? 3) If we take the train from Venice to Trieste ( 2.5hrs), what will be an economical way to get from the train station in Trieste to the ship with many bags of luggage for 8 people. I 'm sure my fellow Cruise Critic people can give me some great ideas. Thank You.

Usually it says that when..A) Not within time frame. B) Cruise not paid off completely. I know you said your within the time frame though.

We are currently booked on the Sky Jan 6-13 and have put in several upgrade bids. They have all said "pending". Since the ship now says sold out, does that mean nobody will get a chance at an upgrade? As of last week, I saw at least 20 cabins still available in different categories I bid on. Just curious.

Nope. We can ask for our departing airport(Detroit), but not arrival airport. (Wiyh no guarantee we will fly out of Detroit). It's a gamble you have to play with N.C.L air, but has worked out perfect with us in the past. The cost difference saves us quite a bit of money. We will make our Hotel reservations in Venice and keep our fingers crossed.

To all you experienced world travelers. My wife and I and 3 other couples are booked on the Viva for Oct 10 2024. We did the N.C.L air program like we have done on other N.C.L cruises. This cruise is a little different, and we need a bit of help. We chose to fly into " Venice Italy" 2 days before our cruise to see the city. We need to make hotel reservations for the 8 people going soon, but I'm wondering if N.C.L will fly us from Detroit to Marco Polo Airport in Venice, or to Trieste airport where we catch the ship. Since both airports are quite a distance away from each other, this could make a difference where we book our Hotel. We will be flying home from Athens Greece, so we know which airport that will be. Can our fellow Cruisecritics with prior knowledge help answer our Airport question. Thank You.

Don't sweat yet. It took me about 7 weeks to get mine. It will come, as long as it's OBC from your travel agency or something like that. When you get it, it will be in an envelope with the words Princess Cruiseline and another financial company on the return address. You can call Princess like I did, and they will just keep saying " it will arrive in a few weeks." Good Luck.

Well 8 weeks after our Discovery Cruise, our check has arrived in the mail with our OBC refund.
