Your poor daughter! How old is she? I had strep last week and all I could think of is that next year I will be on a cruise for New Years and soooo hope I am not sick like I was this year it was awful 😞

    Hope she feels better asap!!!

21!  It is her and 3 girlfriends.  I feel so bad for her.  Today they are in Belize and she has never been there.  She is so mad she is missing it.

  2. My poor baby girl is on her first cruise without me and she got the flu.  She has been quarantined to her room.  She is a mess.  I wish I was with her.  In the past I have read that you can get movies for free if you are quarantined.  Is that true?  She does have insurance thru the cruise line - do you know if she can get reimbursed for days when she is quarantined?  Thankfully she got the flu shot, so hopefully it won't be a horrible case and they got her started on Tamiflu.

Please please please..... just my opinion of course, but I recommend you do an excursion.  Belize is a country that is comprised of jungle, jungle, jungle, and small outer islands.  It has some of the best Mayan ruins available to see on a day trip from a cruise.  If nothing else, do a trip to Altun Ha ruins.  If you can do a trip to one of the bigger ruins, all day trips, or do a cave tubing trip in the jungle, or do a trip to one of the tiny islands off the coast for snorkeling.

of course.... these are all from Belize city... so depends on which cruise line they are on.

They are sailing on Carnival - Legend.  Horse drawn carriage won't happen.  My daughter has been to ruins many times during her life - never in Belize - but I really don't think the other kids have the money to spend on that type of excursion.  Is there an independent tour company in Belize that everyone likes?  I know of great ones on other islands - but nothing on Belize.  Maybe I can find them something cheap??

  4. My daughter and her 3 friends will be there in July.  I don't think they have much of a budget for excursions.  It is my understanding there are no beaches near the ship.  What can they do (aside from stay on the ship!)?  I know my daughter has her own snorkel equipment - not sure about the other girls.

    TIA

I can’t imagine them having that large a following that they would be able to charter an entire ship. I mean, aren’t their fans in the 80-90 age group?

I saw it pop up on Twitter, and scratched my head on this one.

For those that are fans, go enjoy and have fun.

My daughter and I going.  My daughter will be 21 (this will be her birthday gift).  We are HUGE fans.  She has watched this show every day since the day she was born.  We are both so excited!!!!

  6. My daughter and I are booked for this sailing!  We can not wait!  We are both huge fans.  We went to NYC to eat at the Golden Girls Cafe, Rue La Rue Cafe!  It was wonderful - I was sorry to see it closed less than a year after opening - the location wasn't the best - almost an hour outside the city via the subway.  When Rue passed there was a huge estate sale - I was lucky enough to buy some items - they will be coming with us on the cruise!!  (estateofrue.com).

And I am VERY excited to hit Key West - it is one place I have never been!

  7. I want to rent a wheelchair for my mother.  We need to be off the ship early as we have a 1030am flight out of FLL.  I am going

to rent thru special needs at sea.  How easy/fast is the return process?  I know the return kiosk opens at 8am.  If we get off the ship at 730 can

we just leave the chair at the kiosk?  What are the chances of them saying it wasn't returned?  She does have a wheelchair at home that we can bring

with us - but I don't think she will want to.  She can walk - but not long distances.  She is horrible at using a cane and walker.  However, give her a shopping cart

    and away she goes.

Any experiences with doing early debarkation and returning chair in FLL?

    TIA

  8. Yes, the two of you will have four free 24-hour periods you can use. Does not matter that you are in the same stateroom.

If you pay for something with a credit card pre-cruise and cancel on board, you will get a refundable credit.

Thank you! Just ordered the drink packages online.

  9. I was wondering about this myself. My dd and I are both d+ - so we will get four 24 hour periods? Can I use all four coupons (we are in the same room) and I buy her the package on the ship? She is in college and will need to be connected to stay up with course work.

Another question along these lines....drink package. In the room is me (d+), my 85 year old mom (platnium) and my 20 year old dd (d+). I want the drink package and I will probably get for my mom too. Online right now it is 20% off - $48 per day. Should I buy it now for the both of us and then when I get on board return mine and rebuy with my D+ discount? If I do this will I get the cost of my drink package back as an OBC? If so, would it be a refundable OBC? Because there is no way we will spend that amount of money on the cruise.

    TIA

  10. Tangentially related question - We're traveling through Italy for a week prior to cruising out of Rome. If we want to purchase wine during that week to bring home following the cruise, is there a way to have them store this for us during the cruise and return it to us upon arriving at the end of the trip? I'd really like to be able to bring some bottles back from towns we won't visit again after the cruise!

Yes, I have had them store many bottles for me.

  11. It is a bit of a drive to get to either Nachi is farther than Sanchos. I dont think running Mom back to the ship will be easy with traffic. You might want to look at options closer to the ship. Nachi had very uneven ground when I was there last Sept. Sanchos seemed to have upgraded their areas when I was there in Jan 2017. I do know you can email Sanchos about your concerns. Maybe that can help you make a better informed decision. I have not tried to contact Nachi but maybe their website might have the details

Sent from my SM-N920P using Forums mobile app

    Can you recommend anything closer?

    TIA

  12. Need opinions...

We will be in Cozumel in Nov. Looking at booking the day at once of these resorts. It will be me, my 20 year old dd and my mother - who does not walk well and refuses to use a wheelchair but might bring a walker. Which one is easier to walk? She will need to get from the cab to a chair. At some point I am sure should would like to get in the pool. Does one have an easier pool to enter than the other? Also, if my mom gets tired and needs to go back to the ship early - could we leave, bring her back to the ship and then re-enter the resort?

On the flip side my dd and I might want to do something more active than sit at the pool bar and drink....which one has better activities?

Food....my dd and I are vegetarians. Is one place better than the other for food?

    Thanks

  13. I just returned from a cruise on Harmony of the Seas - in Falmouth we booked Blue Hole with Phil Lafayette - Blue hole was AMAZING!! It is strenuous but my kids and hubby had a great time. You need water shoes and you can bring your own or rent them for $6 or buy them for $12. We really liked Phil Lafayette, he tailors the trip to what you want to do, he teaches you things about Jamaica on the ride to Blue Hole. He was very conscience of the time and made sure we were back to the ship in plenty of time

I was just looking at photos. It looks amazing and terrifying. I saw people climbing up a waterfall holding on to a rope. Is that something we have to do? It looking very scary. I have done the falls many times. I have done the bobsled. I have hung out at the beach. I have stayed on the ship. I am looking for a somewhat active tour that doesn't last all day. It will be my and my dd on the tour - my elderly mom will be on the ship and I don't want to leave her all day.

  14. So did you do it? I am considering the zip line excursion in Ketchikan because my travel partner (my 25 yo daughter) loves them. The other days we will be seeing animals and nature. I don't love heights but I kinda want to try this. Looking for lots of opinions. Leaning towards trying it. Once.

I didn't do it. My family did it and it poured the entire time. They still had fun. I got off the ship and hopped on a last minute bus tour and had a wonderful time. If you do it, bring rain pants. In one of the write ups it said rain gear provided, it was not. They were pretty wet when it was done. My daughter LOVED the guides!

  15. Do NOT go to Earthquake park in Anchorage. The mosquitoes were out of control. We had to wrap our faces in scarfs to protect our faces. Other than that we didn't run into very many. Mosquitoes LOVE me.

  16. Prospector's Pizza was great! It is directly across the street from the lodge. One night try Karstens Public House - it is in the lodge - you can sit outside, enjoy live music and food. Tons of fun. There are even a few stores in the square selling nice souvenirs. We also hit the steak restaurant by the lobby - very good too.

  17. This is the Turnagain Arm drive (that I mentioned above) that goes to the Wildlife Conservation Center - glad to hear it was great - we are so excited.

Tell me more about the mosquitoes - where else should we avoid ? I am a skeeter magnet.

Earthquake park was the WORST for mosquitoes. I have never seen anything like it. Most of the other locations were okay. There were some at the wildlife conservation center - but bug spray kept them away for the most part.

  18. This is the review I post of the best day ever in Juneau....

Sailing away from Juneau after the best day ever. We rented a car from Juneau Car Rental. We walked from the cruise ship...next time we would take a cab. It was kind of a long walk (part uphill) and I would rather spend that time sightseeing. We drove to the shrine of St. Therese, spectacular!!!! We then drove down to eagle beach. Nice, but St. Therese was better. We then drove to mendenhall glacier. We walked to nugget falls and then to the photo stop. Beautiful. At this point it was about 2pm. We we're meeting Jayleen of Jayleen's Alaska at 4pm. So, we went out for pizza and a beer at Rocky and Bullwinkle's and it was perfect. Totally hit the spot. We then headed to the marina to meet Jayleen. We got there 30 minutes early but so did the other family on her charter so headed out early. Freaking amazing. We saw it all!!!! A ton of whales, orcas and sea lions!!!!! It was the best day ever!!!! We then drove back to town, dropped off the rental (took a cab back to the pier) had dinner at Tracy's Crab Shack, walked around the shops (glacier soap is amazing!) And then to red dog saloon for a beer. We are exhausted and oh so happy!!! I hope everyone enjoys Juneau as much as we did!

  19. We just got back from Anchorage. Rent a car and drive to the wildlife conservation center. It is amazing! We were there for three hours. We took our time driving down and stopped at a few of the photo stops. The drive is breathtaking. On the way back we stopped at the alyeska Resort and had dinner at Seven Glaciers. Amazing meal. (But don't get the Alyeska dessert - everyone in my group who had it had stomach issues that night.)

We also took the trolley tour and really enjoyed it! https://anchoragetrolley.com/

Whenever we go to a new town we look for Ghost Tours - they are a fun way to see the city and learn some history. http://www.ghosttoursofanchorage.com/

We tried to go to earthquake park but the mosquitoes were too bad. Even with bug spray we got eaten alive. At times we had to cover our faces with scarfs so we could walk thru clouds of mosquitoes. Never again.
