  1. Wow, so many inspiring stories! I too am a cancer survivor (but a different kind), it was stage 3 and I had Radiation, three surgeries and Chemo and I have been in remission for 4 years. If you have a friend who can help I do have a suggestion: write down any and all questions you can think of and have your friend (NOT husband) look them up for you at first while you process everything that will happen to you, the reason I say this is because when you go onto ANY cancer site generically the answers are soooo very scary when the reality is/might be something different. I have a close friend with stage 4 breast cancer that actually crossed the brain barrier and she is still cruising with us 6 years later! She continues to be an inspiration to me and this was her suggestion for me because I kept calling her with questions and the answers online were worrisome at best. Take a deep breath and take it one step at a time, you got this!

  2. hi there. My girlfriend and I are curteous people and would like to know more about chair saving etiquette in the serenity area on Vista. Can we leave our stuff on our chair if we go for lunch for 30-45 minutes? Or go for a walk for half an hour? And if we arrive around 730 to tan for the day is the section empty or already lots of towels put down on chairs? Thanks.

The longest I leave my chair is 15 mins. TOPS! Usually to swim, use the restroom or even grab a quick bite to eat. If my daughter goes with me she stays also but if she wants to go something else then come back and someone comes along and wants her chair I move her stuff and then we just share a chair. Just to clarify, I go and grab my food then return to my chair to eat!

  3. Wow, I did a scavenger hunt on the Freedom and it was NOT like this. We had teams and were given a list of items to find around the ship and one member of your team had to be in the picture and only ONE phone was used for taking pictures. Had to get creative on some and so glad that we had some younger ones with us because running up & down those stairs got old fast! We won a deck of cards and a SOS but we had a blast (about the other I have no idea!).

  4. You can use your points to pay off purchases on your credit card statement or even parts of your cruise. I had enough points on my last cruise to pay for an upgrade to a suite, then used the points to pay off the upgrade. This year I had enough points to pay $1,500 off our Hawaiian cruise (our cruise ended up at $3,700 instead of $4,700). Also saving on excursions booked through Carnival as well as getting double points. I use it for our onboard account and just save the points until we cruise again (usually every two years). This has worked well for us and since we pay it off every month no interest charges. There may well be other cards that suit your needs better BUT some I have received have yearly fees and when I figured it out it did not make sense for us (I hate having to pay a fee to use a card but that is the only way they would make ANY money off of me!). Hope this helps

  5. Carnival now charges for the special teabags because many were taking handfuls as souvenirs.

Again the majority has to pay for the idiocy of the few.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I remember that they use to go around with the wooden Box and you could choose. They could still just offer free upgraded teas at tea time so sticky fingers could not just walk off with these teas. I do bring my own tea just because I can!

  6. We have always driven to all of our cruises and this time I'm trying to

talk to my husband into flying. He DOES NOT want to fly but since

it will just be the 2 of us instead of the whole family I'm trying to get

    him to consider it.

We live in north Georgia and will be leaving out of Port Canaveral so we

would be looking at a 9 hour drive. We are doing an 8 day Southern so

we would have to fly down or drive down on Valentine's Day.

Do most of you chance flying in the same day or do you fly in the day

before? We don't usually have very much bad weather but our luck would

be that it would come a blizzard about the time of our flights.

Also, on the way back - how much time should we allow from getting

from Port Canaveral back to the airport in Orlando. I would really

prefer flying in Daytona but the rates are much higher than flying into

    Orlando.

We usually do self assist debark - would I be ok with a flight that leaves

Orlando at 10:25 or would that be pushing it?

We can definitely drive and pay to park cheaper but that doesn't

count the time we will be in the car actually driving.

    Thoughts and experiences please?

Since we normally fly into ports (live in So. Cal and we prefer the Caribbean) we have flown in on red eyes BUT I am meticulous about our routes into cities. Galveston we flew in the day before and spent the night (and soooo glad we did as a storm came through), I do not mind driving (9 hours is not a difficult drive for me) although my husband hates it! Personally, I would drive down the day before and start my vacay that way. If flying, 10:25 would be pushing it a bit (I am a worry wart), I am pretty easy going and relaxed when I travel but that is because I plan for things and if something goes wrong I always prefer a built in cushion!

  7. Nothing came up when I selected the site.

All you do is book the excursion online (just like you would normally do), pay with with your Carnival CC and on your next CC statement you will see it show up as a credit (a - will be next to the amount). There is no special website, code or anything else, just book with Carnival! Easy Peasy

  8. I would contact special services by e mail to request wheelchair assistance. I do not cruise until January and have neuropathy in my feet from Chemo, and though I can walk just fine (99% of the time) I can't stand for anything other than a short period of time (was in tears by the time our muster ended last cruise and I could barely walk afterwards), if check in at Long Beach is quick I am really good (or just make sure I have a place to sit down!), depending on how I am doing that day I may or may not need the chair!

  9. Not sure when your cruise is (so I may be late here), I drive the freeways every day for the last 26 years and fridays going Westbound are usually lighter than other days of the week. I would avoid the 91 if possible (I HATE that freeway) the 10 is not too bad. Use waze and that will help tons! If you feel you must make it in to Long Beach then I second stopping in PS, having a nice relaxing dinner then finish the drive BUT even Westbound traffic is terrible and don't let any one tell you different! Depending on your check in time I would leave PS early and have breakfast in LB. Like I said, avoid the 91! and on the 10 freeway carpool lanes do not need a transponder, at least from Inland Empire and towards the coast, The 91 does but I do not believe the 10 or the 210 does and I drive these two freeways (other than the 15 and occasionally the 91, which I avoid!).

  10. I have read these boards and even on Carnival's own site that states that FTTF is not offered for Journey's cruises BUT went to check on excursions on our Jan. 12, 2019 Hawaii cruise (and really NO excursions up yet?) and there are only about 10 for ALL Hawaii ports but 8 alone for Ensenada. Oh yeah, FTTF was there in the excursions for $69.95, it does say Sold Out but I am wondering if this was an error or if they changed the policy and dropped the price?

  11. It has been years (DD now 20) but she was around 9 when we went on our first cruise with her and we talked to her and with the counselors about that, we did let her do self check out ONLY when they did the scavenger hunt and if she had at least two others with her. Worked great! Most of the time she was with us anyway and once her and a friend (who's family sat at our table, did not know them before the cruise) wanted to get hamburgers so we said yes (they asked in advance). She made a lifelong friend on that cruise! We also made sure she knew EXACTLY how to get to the room without us (she had the ship layout down pat within an hour, I still got lost 2 days later!) just in case. We also made sure she knew where we would be at a given time. She is a smart girl now and was then too!

  12. I use ours for pretty much everything and a year ago I was able to upgrade from a balcony to a suite using points as well as onboard credit and a couple bottles of wine! In January we are cruising to Hawaii and I waited until we had 100,000 points and was able to use that as a statement credit of $1500 dollars (as well as getting a statement credit back for shore excursions), so our 14 day Hawaii cruise in a balcony really only cost me $3200!!! As well, we booked early and received $100 OBC and a two category upgrade (yes, I chose my room and deck). I understand that there may be better cards out there but since we cruise mainly with Carnival and get 2x points when I book with them it has worked out for me. Also, they have a program (on the Barclay website) where if you shop by clicking on the links you can get (sometimes) up to 4x the points!

  13. I was reading Entertainment Weekly today and there was an article about Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham along with some pics of his puppets. I know I have seen him perform with one of those dummies and the memory does not seem to be of watching him on tv. I really feel I saw him live and it would definitely not be something I would purchase tickets for so I am wondering if I saw him on a ship????

I specifically remember seeing this dummy "grumpy Walter" and Dunham took him out of a suitcase. The personality was of a grumpy old man and was a very funny show. My grumpy old man (husband :)) says I am nuts and he never saw this show onboard. I have, however, been on two cruises without him so it could have been then.

Any help would be much appreciated! Crazy?? Actual memory?? I did a search and found no references to this specific performer so it's starting to look like crazy!

    Thanks!

We saw him on a Royal Caribbean cruise several years ago and I have never laughed so hard (my cheeks hurt!). Have never seen him on any of my Carnival cruises.

  14. Not sure how you are booking but I always go to Kayak and put dates in there to see what comes up, play around with dates and airports and you can do a fare alert also, which will tell you when fares drop. If you find a fare that you like go directly to the airlines website because I have found it can be a few dollars cheaper! I fly from California to FL and rarely pay more than $250 rt! Oh, and I have discovered that checking different discount websites can be a waste of time since they all usually have the same price!

  15. I actually enjoy the auctions (weird, I know!), My daughter took two years of art history in High School and when she graduated we went on a cruise with her. It was fun walking around and hearing her explaining things to me then hearing the auctioneers repeating what she had already told me. I admit, I go get my free drinks sit down and people watch but have never bought anything, not that I was never tempted, once I was tempted with a Picasso that I liked but decided that it was just too much money.

  16. I am assuming that security were not Americans? Since I was not there I would not know BUT it is under a foreign flag so I have really have no insight as to security training. I do think that the passenger that barged in and the accused cabin should be prosecuted BUT that is up to the the person being assaulted and NOT Carnival. Does anyone know if the accuser apologized? I did not see anything in the video about that. And, looking at the pictures, the accused is also a father so maybe he was able to forgive? I agree that more training should be done BUT who says that Carnival is not doing that and not announcing it to the entire world?

  17. My Hubby and I have been on RC twice (our first two cruises) and had a blast! On our second RC cruise we met 14 people on a small excursion bus and became fast friends for the entire cruise (7 days) I never partied so hard in my life (at least since we had kids, Lol) BUT then we tried Carnival with some friends and have been on 5 with a 14 day Journeys cruise to Hawaii booked in 2019! We have also loved every cruise with Carnival and have had great fun as well as making new friends! we have been on 1 Celebrity and had a good time but the vibe was different and while it would not stop us from doing another one (food and staff were excellent!) it was more laid back (not a bad thing and it was a Pacific Coastal and considered a "wine" cruise). We have the expectation that we will have fun (and we always have) and each offered us a different experience. We usually look at where and when we want to go and research prices etc.... my vacation is what I make of it and since I am NOT cooking or cleaning or at work I consider that a win, win, win!
