  1. I'm waiting for three different orders--all $100--3, 3, and 2---$800.00

Credit card has been charged and they show "Shipped" on the website under my account.

Sent them an email yesterday and their reply was that they have shipped and I should see them next week.

How the heck long does it take to mail anything from anywhere to somewhere else in the US? It shouldn't take a couple of weeks for anything in an envelope.

  2. I bought a total of $600 in Carnival gift cards from AARP on the 4th and 5th. All in $100 increments. So far, I received only 1 card - a week ago. Still waiting on the rest. Confusing the issue, I bought 2 more the next week. I have no way of knowing which order that one single card I got is from.

I don't know how they can track these if they've been sent through the post office. Not happy. I haven't called them yet, if they don't show up today or tomorrow, I'm calling on Monday.

  3. Thanks! That makes me feel a little better. It's been 10 days since they were sent (12 since I ordered them)...maybe there is still hope!

Thanks! I agree...it's odd some are taking so long, wish I had stuck to the $500 ones. Hope yours come soon too!

I bought a total of 6 $100 cards on June 4 and 5. So far, I've received one of those cards. Hoping the rest show up soon, I don't know what AARP can do if they've been mis-delivered.

  4. Do you or anyone know how frequently AARP updates or posts new Carnival GCs? I've been watching for them but with no luck. I know AARP posts a new Daily Deal every day at 2:00 but I can't seem to determine any rhyme or reason to their posting gift cards. I've been working on getting my rewards points together and I'm ready to buy! :D

I'm on the west coast and always seemed to miss the Carnival gift cards on AARP. However, the last few times they've been available a little later in the morning and I was able to snag some. I check first thing in the morning and then a couple of times before noon. Stay vigilant!

  5. …The end of July? That's the start of SeaFair celebrations so it could be quite busy on the waterfront (seattle and west seattle). Fleet Week so ships and sailors on the piers. And SeaFair Pirates at WSeattle.

p.s. if you want a sunset view, remember that we have long days, so look at a sunrise/sunset calendar.

We'll be in Seattle for a few days before our cruise the last weekend in July. Looks like it's going to be crowded.

And also possibly why the hotels are so expensive.

  6. For those wondering about shipping times... I ordered some back on 5/20 and they have yet to arrive. I sent an email and got a generic reply that they would look into it. I called them earlier this week and was told that they were on back order. The original order completed, I got the email, and my account had the charge come out right away.

They were supposed to ship on Wednesday when the new batch came in. No tracking number or anything available for the order so no way of knowing where they are. We have plenty of time so not worried.

Just wanted to share my experience for those of you looking for quick turn-around.

Did you order from Verizon or AARP? I ordered from AARP yesterday and it says shipped. Hope you get yours soon.

  7. I wonder if I got my order in on time. I got a confirmation but no email yet. I hope they didn't sell out while I was putting in my credit card information.

I'm pretty sure if the transaction goes through you will get your gift cards. I bought some yesterday and was able to get one more today. That should cover most of my on board expenses. :)

I never got a confirmation email, but when I look at my account, it says that the ones I bought yesterday have been shipped.

  8. Hi Everyone!!! New Here with a bit of a concern.

My husband and I's first and last cruise was a couples only cruise in 2009 on the Sensation. We absolutely loved it and had always planned to cruise again but always ended up doing other vacations. So I decided that no matter what we do next year a cruise will be at least a part of it.

So, the plan for next July was 4 days at Disney and a 3 day cruise out of Canaveral for the whole family. Kids will be 16, 15, 13, and 11 one being a family friend's kid. After booking the cruise I began to remember all the parties, drunken college students passed out, peeing in the seats and pool, yes they peed in the pool , and a couple fights.

I did not book early saver so changing should be ok. Correct?

Did I make a mistake booking this cruise with kids or do you think it would be ok. This is their first cruise so I want them to enjoy it while being safe and not being witness to too much fun.

    Thanks!

If you're bringing a family friend's kid, be sure to have a letter from the parents giving you permission to take him or her out of the country.

  9. Adaptions are being made to the Chef's Table concept and they have just re-branded it as 'Prime Table' on Anthem. While changes have been taking place across the fleet they have not re-branded it on other ships yet.

    Prime Table on Anthem

Wonderland was my favorite venue on Quantum and they are certainly still planning to have a two level Wonderland on Harmony when she premiers a year from now.

"…a five-course, upgraded steakhouse menu and wine tasting" Sounds like it's going to be different than the Chefs Table.

  10. I too wonder about both. Sailing on Oasis in February so there's still time, but I'm really looking forward to trying both. I'm sailing to Alaska on the Carnival Legend in July, and if there's a chance of no Chef's Table on Oasis, I may just book it on the Legend. I've already done a Chef's Table on Carnival and was looking forward to trying RCL's.

  11. Hi all. We're booked on Oasis next February in cabin 10729. There's three of us and I'm the lucky person on the sofa bed. Can anyone tell me if it folds out like a traditional sofa bed or does the back tilt down and you sleep length-wise? In looking at photos, it doesn't look like there's enough room if it folds out, but I can't find any photos of it made up for sleeping. My other question is if the back does just tilt down, how comfortable is it?

  12. Only slightly cruise-related because there were some people flying to get on a river cruise, but a few years ago our flight to Paris took two days.

It started when United changed our flight out of San Diego leaving us less time to change planes in Chicago. No problem, they tell us, you still have time to make your flight. Well, thunderstorms in Chicago causes O'Hare to shut down for a few hours delaying our flight from taking off in CA. Don't worry, they tell us, your connecting flight can't take off when scheduled because that airport is closed. We finally take off and when we land at O'Hare, we find out that our connection did indeed take off half an hour earlier. Because it's weather-related, United is not obligated to put us up for the night, so we use points to get a hotel room. With no access to our checked luggage, we stop at a store to buy underwear and souvenir t-shirts to wear the next day. At least United gave us travel-sized toothpaste and other sundries.

The next day we show up for our re-booked flight. Not an hour in the air, it's announced that we have to land in Toronto because of smoke in the galley. Firemen come on board, nothing found, but the plane is not flying on. We get off and have to stay in one area in the terminal. If we wander around, everyone will have to go through security. We even have to be escorted to the bathroom. After about an hour, we get the word that we're staying overnight in Toronto. At least this time the airline was paying for the hotel room. The meal voucher we got didn't cover a full meal, we could only order what was on a list and most of it was for more than the voucher.

FINALLY, the next day, we got on our plane to Paris, we had to cancel the car scheduled to pick us up twice and ate the cost because of the 24-hour cancellation policy. Luckily we still had a week left to our trip, I feel for the passengers who missed the beginning of their riverboat cruise.

  13. My very first cruise in the 80s, my friend and I were invited to dine with the Captain and Chief Engineer. There were three different couples and us two 20-something women. At the Captain's reception, right after going through the reception line, the cruise director asked us if we'd like to sit at the Captain's table that evening. I don't know if he picked us or if the Captain gave him the high sign.

The wine was flowing, the meal was different than what was on the menu and many toasts were had.

  14. Every time I see a news story about noro on a cruise ship, I yell at the TV "wash your hands!".

For those who say what if I just washed my hands. You probably touched something between the bathroom and the buffet without even realizing it. At the very least, the doorknob leaving the bathroom.

  15. I don't remember everything about my first cruise. I do remember it was the Azure Seas in the late 80s. Midnight buffets, baked Alaska and my friend and I were invited to the Captain's table on one of the formal nights. It helped that we were two 20-somethings. After that, there were several annual weekend cruises to Ensenada and Catalina out of Long Beach on Viking Serenade. A cheap way to cruise for someone who didn't make a lot of money. The first cruise there were just two of us, after that it was more and more in our group, the two who organized everything in our group would put together scavenger hunts for us, we'd be all over the ship searching for things.

Tianamen Square and Johnny Carson's last show happened during some of those cruises. Carson's last show was aired in one of the lounges and the room was full.

Thanks to all those weekend cruises, I had enough points with RCL to make me a Diamond. Have cruised ever since, on Carnival, Holland America and of course Royal Caribbean.
