  1. You need to log into your MyNCL account & a banner will display that says let's get you upgraded. If you don't have an account, the link to register is at the top.

I did log in and there is no upgrade banner... I saw a photo of it that someone had posted but I don't have it. There are 3 photos in my banner - one for the dining package, one for the drinks package and one that says "get ready to cruise"

  2. I also like having control of my reservation. I almost always use my NCL PCC. My next cruise final payment is due soon so I decided to check prices. I found an online TA who price was $1000 less than what my PCC could give me. I did ask him if he could match the price but he couldn't. I will keep the same cabin category and perks. I am thrilled to give up control to save $1000!

  3. Hi, next week we will be in the Haven for the first time on the Breakaway's Jan 2nd sailing. How does the free room service work? Are milkshakes free? How much do you usually tip the butler? Has someone been in 14782 aft? Any others tips or information is appreciated!!!

I am on that sailing too! Are you sure the room number is correct? 14782 on the Breakaway is a BA mid ship balcony.

  4. Anyone have an idea what NCL is selling USD for onboard right now? I'm sailing on the Dawn at the end of the week and I'm wondering if I should exchange currency onboard or buy USD ahead of time. The banks in Canada are selling USD right now for $1.39. Ouch. :(

You can check the rate in your reservation. Go to the onboard credit purchase in the explore and plan section. I just checked for my cruise next week it is $13.27ca for $10us. I did buy some a few days ago because it was cheaper than the bank.

  5. I have cruised on both the Breakaway and Quantum (sister ship of Anthem). For sailings out of New York I think Anthem is a better ship for cold weather cruising. Lots of great inside space. I also think it is a beautiful ship - Breakaway not so much. Breakaway does has the Waterfront which I love but depending on when you are cruising it is only enjoyable to use in warm weather. I am cruising again soon on the Breakaway but that is only because Anthem was much more $$$.

  6. Mike, I'm an NCL fan as you can see from my cruise history below, but my spouse and I recently returned from the Anthem TA and were just blown away by this ship. We aren't big fans of mega-ships, and were surprised we enjoyed Anthem as much as we did, but we did. She is stunningly beautiful and has incredibly unique public spaces, like Two70, which has to be seen to be believed. And North Star is just amazing.

And for the kids -- Anthem is pretty much an amusement park at sea. North Star, bumper cars, flowrider, simulated sky diving (Ripcord by iFly). Incredible.

I agree with Turtles06. The Quantum is stunningly beautiful!!! Loved it!

I have sailed on both the Breakaway and Quantum. Not a fan of the Breakaway. The pool area is way too small and the ship felt crowded. I would recommend Anthem. Loved the solarium - a wonderful, quiet space which is almost impossible to find on the Breakaway.

I kept a blog of our Quantum cruise with lots of photos http://quantumoftheseas2015.blogspot.com/

  7. All of the cabins got new carpet and new new mattress. Some/all had some laminated floors replaced with tile. Touch up paint as needed. "Behind the walls" there were some mandatory electrical and hvac updates in all rooms.

In the Haven, they have new very heavy pillow tops in the master bed and a new sofa bed topper in the second bedrooms, some new furniture, new tile, new coffee makers (good bye Lavassa).

We are on the current sailing in a balcony on deck 9 and our cabin does not have new carpets nor were they even cleaned recently.

  8. Looking for info....has anyone successfully used skype to video call (even with camera off) while on Quantum? I purchased the one device package and can email and browse just fine but no luck with Skype...so thinking there might be a trick (ie work-around)? If someone has THEN I guess it my device.

We were able to Skype with video and watch Netflix while in our cabin (6570) with no problem.

  9. Yes OBC is in USD.

I just wanted to let everyone know to set your onboard account up as a cash account and your won't be charged a fee to withdraw money from the casino. I was charged the fee once by mistake and she immediately credited back the fee to my account. Just remind them you have a cash account.

  10. At least 1 person posted on the Canadian cruisers thread that they were able to withdraw cash at the casino without incurring the 5% fee. This was only due to them having a large amount refundable OBC on their account.

You can only get cash back from guest services on the last evening.

Another Canadian here and we bought OBC and then we set up our on board account as a cash account. Cash accounts are not charged a fee to withdraw money in the casino. I was told the fee is only for credit card accounts. You do have to remind them you have a cash account as I was charged the fee by mistake but they immediately cancelled that. Hope this helps.

  11. Martinique seemed like a wasted day. I don't remember any photos showing what you did. Didn't you do anything fun? I thought I'd like to go there one day but it doesn't seem like I'm missing much. Your thoughts?

If I may chime in, walking around the ship you really miss the essence of Martinique. The dock is not in a good area. In fact it is all riddled with shanties scarring the hillside. There's not much to see around the dock. We were leary of the place so we took a ships tour and it was really nice. We went to a very old church, then to the DePaz Rum Distillery for a nice tour and plenty of free samples. They spoke English and gladly accepted USD. The rum was good and not expensive at all. The drive there and the grounds was gorgeous. Lush rain forest and beautiful views. Finally we went to what I thought was the highlight- a visit to the quaint fishing village of St Pierre, where in 1912 (I believe) the entire population was consumed instantly by the eruption of Moubt Pelee, which U could see from the distillery all the way to St Pierre. We got to visit the small museum there that explained the story and it had all kinds of photos and artifacts.

My only compliant was I wish we coulda skipped the church and spent more time in St Pierre

I don't want to take away from Chris' thread but I just wanted to say we are on the same sailing as Chris and we had a great day in Martinique just from walking off the ship and walking around. Here is a link to my blog with photos of our day there. http://quantumoftheseas2015.blogspot.com/2015/04/april-18-2015-fort-de-france-martinique.html

Chris see you in the morning as we are on your tour in St Kitts :)

  12. Interesting - wonder if someone made a mistake when charging you?? I will call about adding my tips - thought I would pay with my "cheap" OBC. I had booked an excursion for my Sept cruise about a month ago. Just noticed that it had gone down in CDN dollars in spite of the fact our dollar had dropped further. ??

I had read on here about others paying less in CDN than US. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

We pre-paid $189CAD each instead of $192US onboard for our upcoming 16 night Radiance cruise. :D

I just wanted to thank everyone for all the information regarding prepaying gratuities. I just called and prepaid for 7 days $82.79 per person CAN if I had waited till onboard it would have been $84 per person USD
  13. It makes perfect sense to buy OBC now at 10% and use it to pay for the drink packages, tips, whatever once you get on board. The number you call is on the first page of this thread. I'd like to thank everyone who's contributed to this. It will make our cruise much more enjoyable knowing we saved a little bit thanks to this information.

It is cheaper to pre-pay the tips. For 12 days ours was $283.88 CDN total for the 2 of us.

  14. I received an email on 10th March telling my my edocs are now ready, and that i can order luggage tags too. However, every time i logon to my account i get this message;

Error The system is currently unable to handle your request for retrieving your reservation.

I've emailed customer services and the automated reply says i will receive a reply within 28 days - i phoned customer services who just said there have been some changes to the website but they couldn't really offer any explanation or help... really frustrating as my daughter was home for the weekend and we wanted to book excursions and treatments etc...

Has anyone else got similar problems?

Have you tried using a different browser? I had a similar issue using Firefox and couldn't access my edocs but switched to Chrome and had no problem. Hope this helps.
