  1. You're right. I didn't pay attention to when they were cruising. However, it still sounds to me like they scored a haven spa suite ??

I hope they come back and post some clarification (Ship, correct cabin #, etc.). I'm hoping to try my luck in upgrading an M6 to an S9 and have a few questions for them.

  2. Good afternoon everyone. I just wanted to put this message out there. I was on the February 22nd sailing on the Getaway. Unfortunately, I believe my camera was stolen on Thursday night at the Glow Party (which is amazing by the way). If you happen to hear or see anything about a camera being found during the week...PLEASE send me any info. All of my pictures and videos from the week were on it and I am heartbroken. I appreciate you keeping me in mind if you come across anything. THANK YOU!!

Keep in touch with NCL. Having worked in the past with a major tourist location, I found a couple things to be true:

More often than not, although a guest would swear they knew exactly the last place they had an item with them, it was usually left someplace else.

And more importantly, it often took several days for an item to finally get to the lost & found.

I hope your camera is reunited with you soon!

  3. We are in an S9 which only sleeps two and our couch is not a pull out. I'm calling NCL tomorrow and will ask to just leave the room as is. From some of these responses I get the feeling that's what'll happen anyway.

I wouldn't give up. By keeping your request open, either no change will be made to the bed, or they put the king in storage and pull out a couple of twins from storage.

  4. I'm confused too. You said you were upgraded to an S9 spa balcony. S9's are suites. You said you have room 14143. I do not see 14143 on the Getaway, however there is 14134...which is an S9 spa haven suite. Maybe that is what you got?? If so, you should have the UBP and UDP included?? Check into it.

I don't think they would have the UDP and UBP with the 3/30/14 sailing. I don't think it's available until 4/19/14 sailings.

  5. Oh man...if we could've got a regular mini suite...you sure it would've have udp & ubp? Maybe we made a mistake  our TA didn't seem that knowledgeable about Princess.

OK, now I'm confused. Are you talking about a Princess Cruiseship? Not that that is a bad thing, but you posted in the Norwegian forum. Everyone is giving you suggestions and info about NCL cruises.

  6. How does NCL define 'kid'? Is there an age limit or any child who is 3rd person in the cabin is free?

I checked the "fine print" (terms & conditions), it looks like it's "kids sail free" in name only. "Offer valid for third through eighth guest sharing a cabin with the first and second guest paying full fare." Time to share a suite?

  7. Im reading many forums on CC about customers getting extra OBC or other great FREE stuff from ncl. Now,

I already made my final payment but was wondering if i call, would they be nice enough to offer me anything extra if i were to ask? Always cruised with RCCl never with NCL. Not really in my nature to do these kind of things either but, wont hurt to try for once. Does anyone know if i would be lucky enough to come across a nice cruise coordinator?? Just wondering?

First a quick question. Did you book through NCL or a TA? If you booked through a TA, then you'll need to work through them. I'm like you, a little reluctant to, but the only way to find out is to ask.

  8. Than I am hoping that a brother of mine will decide to sail with me at the last minute. But if not, it's all good...I'm used to going solo...but my bro hasn't had a vacation in 15 years...yes, FIFTEEN, and his partner died a few years ago and he hasn't had a break since. If you are a person who prays, please pray for M. that he will be able to get away and go with me to experience his first cruise.

FIFTEEN YEARS! I think it's time for an intervention. Start packing up all his clothes and drive him to the port! :D

  9. You do get 20% off the Illusionarium with the UDP! I'm thinking we wouldn't lose money if we only did two specialty restaurants. Aren't they at least $25 per person?

Actually, the 20% discount does not apply to the Illusionarium.

From NCL: "20% discount at celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian's Ocean Blue on the Waterfront & a la carte venues (excluding entertainment based dining)"

This may help: Cagney's $30, Teppanyaki $25, Le Bistro & Modeno $20, La Cucina $15, Ocean Blue $9.80 (what you would save off the $49 charge). See if the venues you want to visit add up to more than $50 each.

  10. Looking to go on Breakaway for 12 day cruise. We usually book a balcony but were thinking mini suite on this one. Haven't been on NCL in awhile but do remember different room types get different services. Anyone help out with what services a mini suite with balcony gets? Also some say suite and some say mini suite...anyone know the difference? Thanks.

On the Breakaway the mini-suite will give you a bit more room, mostly in the bathroom where you'll find a much larger shower and sink area. There is a bit more room in the rest of the cabin as well. Cruise Critic member Bear 3412 put together a great spreasheet on all the cabins here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1843049

Make sure you click on the "Visual Aid Links." One of the slides shows a side-by-side comparison of a balcony and mini-suite.

As for perks, unfortunately mini-suite's are the same as a balcony, not a suite.

  11. This promotion applies to all new bookings booked between Feb 27 - March 10 for sailings during the 2nd and 3rd Quarter of 2014 on the Breakaway and Getaway only.

"Sailings during 2nd & 3rd quarters"... Now does this mean sailings that begin in the 2nd quarter (April 1, 2014 or later)? Or would it include the March 29-April 5, 2014 sailing of the Getaway (March 30-April 6 Breakaway) that technically sail "during" the 2nd quarter?

  12. Hi all. We are sailing on the Norwegian Getaway on March 8. Trying to plan for a couple of dinners at specialty restaurants. Does anybody know what the show times are for the complimentary or "pay" shows? We usually don't do early dinner. Can't seem to find the times anywhere. Looking forward to our third Norwegian cruise.

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1973491&page=12 See my post #239. Also, if you have an NCL online account, sign in and you can book show/dinner reservations as there is less than 45 days until your cruise.

  13. That really is a tough decission, and it really depends on your in-laws' likes and budget. I can share that for us there was nothing like the stillness of being out on a balcony cruising through the inside passage, where it seemed like it was just us, the tranquil waters, and the spectacular scenery. For some, that quiet connection with Alaskan beauty is worth the extra cost; others would be just as happy finding a spot on an open deck.

  14. Hi Ashley,

Unfortunately, the search button seems to have disappeared again  Can you please post the days and times Legally Blonde, Burn the Floor, and the Illusionarium are available?

I assume the standard 7 day cruises are alike, so here are the times for my upcoming 3/29 cruise: Illusionarium: Saturday - Thursday 5:30 PM & 8:45 PM, Burn the Floor: Sunday & Monday 7:30 PM & 10:00 PM, Legally Blonde: Wednesday - Friday 7:30 & 10:15.

  15. Which pod did u buy???

Like some, I like a good cup of coffee and am not sure about the commercial stuff NCL might have on board. I picked up some Jamaica Blue Mountain, Mocha Java, & Butter Pecan all by Baronet, but any pod (NOT K-Cup) made for senseo type pod brewers work. The brewer appears to be a Hamilton Beach HDC200S, which you can see on Amazon and other sites for reviews.

  16. There's a good side-by-side floor plan here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1fL_OOlnzo56OPrhoAduUExMN6jGjxSu8_89dK9jjiXM/pub?start=true&loop=true&delayms=5000&slide=id.gd4330407_2_0

As others have stated, a lot of the extra space is in the bathroom, where you gain a large shower with extra "spa" jets. You also have a bit more room in the bed "alcove" (note the differences in the side tables), some more closet space, and a larger sitting area (note the difference in sofa sizes).

  17. Is it still the Mr Coffee in the balcony rooms??? I always bring my filters and coffee!!!! Thanks!!!

The Getaway Balcony coffee makers appear to be single cup senseo pod type. Image here: http://www.depping-design.de/test/displayimage.php?album=321&pid=10524#top_display_media

I'm packing coffee pods I found online from what has to be one of the most unfortunately named online merchants: CoffeeWiz (I suppose it's supposed to be short for wizard) :p

  18. How much is the Illusionarium?

The pricing for the Illusionarium is now showing up on my cruise planner (sailing 3/29/13). It's $29 for "premium seating" and $24 for "regular seating." It appears shows will be presented on all nights except the last night of the cruise.

  19. We thoroughly enjoyed the Star through the Baltic. It's a pretty ship, and the ports were quite enjoyable. Make sure you read the port section of CC for suggestions of what to do (we got great recommendations there). As others have alluded to, sometimes cruises are all about the ship, and other times it's about the itinerary. To us, the Baltic was all about the itinerary. The Star was just the icing on the cake. You'll find you don't need all the diversions of a mega-ship, but you'll appreciate everything the Star has to offer (I'm starting to sound like an ad copy writer).

  20. so what is with all the negative Norwegian reviews... okay be honest?? how does Norwegian compare to royal Caribbean? how is the food on Norwegian compare??

hmmm thinking of doing the mediterrean on Norwegian.. will I regret it.. prices are muchhhhh lower for Europe on ncl vs princess or Norwegian??

As others have said, it is a matter of your personal taste. And for us, sometimes a matter of what we're in the mood for. For example, sometimes we like having the same dining room staff and tablemates (RCI), and sometime we just want to restaurant hop (NCL). Sometimes it's fun to dress up for formal nights (RCI) and sometime you just want to pack wash & wear (NCL).

Take a look at what each ship traveling your desired itinerary has, and compare from there. I've been happy on both RCI & NCL.
