  1. Or just enjoy your holidays and stay offline...(or do as the staff and as I does; look at land for free WIFI-spots and get your online-time there)

Generally a holiday is still on-line for me - although I don't work on the internet I do like to put holiday pictures on facebook.

Occasionally I'm cruising solo - if so I need to keep in touch with my Significant Other - but ship's wifi speeds mean that it is by email, not facetime. Free Wifi on land is great for this - but for evenings and sea days it's nice to stay in contact.

  2. Alfresco is the very small buffet that is only open for breakfast and lunch and not the main buffet restaurant that is virtually open all day. Unless you knew Alfresco you wouldnt really know it was there and cannot imagine it would make a lot of difference to the cruise.

When we were on Oriana, AlFresco was also open for late supper - but while it was lovely, it is so small that there was often a queue to get in.

  3. Wow a nice upgrade.

However i bet there are a lot of loyal p&o clients on the ship, who don't get upgraded. That just sums up p&o (sorry no offence meant to you)

    Enjoy your suite

Funnily enough, the best upgrades I have had were when I was a first time cruiser with certain lines.

    Carnival - outside to balcony.

    Disney - inside to outside

Cunard - inside to Balcony (!)

It seems like they want to create new loyal cruisers rather than bother to reward the ones they already have. Go figure…

  4. …Space/comfort to me is the most important part of the flight.

I agree - but for me seat width is more important than legroom. I'm hoping that the 3-3-3 layout isn't too tight. Fingers crossed - I'm on a dreamliner in Feb.

My understanding in regards to the Dreamliner is that because of its updated spec as opposed to the other aircraft it is cleared for longer distances from land and subsequently does get to Barbados quicker.

I know that the Dreamliner is ETOPS certified, but I didn't know there were different levels of ETOPS certification. If so I'm extra happy - a shorter flight is great.

However - a couple of years ago we had a tail wind and got to BGA early - we then had to wait 65 minutes on the plane as there were no steps available!

I hate flights - but I love the fact they take you to sunny places!

  5. Sorry, but being gold with Cunard does not count towards your P&O peninsular membership. But your P&O peninsular membership counts towards Princess Captains Circle, Strange system.

Captains Circle also used to count towards P&O in the old (Portunus Club) days.

This is because P&O and Princess were the same company years ago (pre-Carnival).

When P&O revised their rewards programme they dropped the tie-in with Princess. So far, Princess haven't revised their programme.

  6. I have bought a lot of Godard art (both limited editions and original works) over the last few years - so I will miss seeing his works if Park West don't have them.

Then again, my walls are pretty full already, so it's not the end of the world, like it would have been when I was still collecting…

  7. Personally, I would have preferred that the story was told in one instalment.

Then, perhaps other people would post sensible questions arising from the story, which the OP could then answer.

As it is, we have a few instalments of the story, interspersed with what seems like thousands of silly comments.

However… that's just my preference. It's the OP's story. It's the OP's thread. It's up to the OP to tell the story the way he wants to. Let's cut him some slack, folks.

  8. To sign off (IIRC) type 1.1.1.1. in the address bar. I think that logoff.com also works.

There should be printed instructions in the internet cafe - just pop in and pick up a copy.

  9. After getting tired of stringing extension cord for the CPAP, we bought a travel CPAP that runs on a lithium battery. SO much smaller and lighter. It is VERY easy to use when we travel and can be used on our overnight international flights. :D It just gets plugged in to recharge during the day when we're out of the cabin anyway.

I have three 6ft extension cords for my CPAP, so I use one, two or all three depending on how far away the outlet is. Often there is a socket at floor level by the bed - the bedside lights plug in to it - so I pop my CPAP in there.

That lithium CPAP sounds great - have you a link to it?

  10. Don't worry too much. Any noise you make in your bathroom would be only audible in the next door bathroom - so no real chance of waking a neighbour.

The soundproofing is pretty good - certainly as good as a well built hotel - the main sound that carries is walls being thumped (probably kids playing) and doors being slammed.

I'd be more offended by the noise of badly behaved, drunken passengers. You have a medical issue - it's not your fault. Go ahead and enjoy your cruise.

  11. I've booked to stay in Southampton on the night before …

Lots of places to eat and drink on Oxford Street.

I recommend La Esquina (tapas) where I have eaten many times, both solo and with a companion. Ian and Gill are very welcoming and their small tapas restaurant has a comfortable atmosphere.

I have cruised with my (now ex) wife, with friends, solo and with my new lady. It's a very sociable atmosphere, as I am sure you have found - so never really alone.

  12. I guess my question would be .... and how big are the security scanners?

I have what I call a air-hostess or cabin luggage in which I keep my electricals; laptop, iPad, Kindle etc. etc. Or in other words, anything I don't want thrown about by a crazed baboon (or baggage handlers as they like to be known).

Would this fit through the scanner?

    Jonjo

Assuming that it's standard IATA size, then it will fit, no problem.

BTW - your comparison of baggage handlers and crazed baboons might be offensive…

    … to a crazed baboon!

  13. Mobility scooter grand prix

Man vs Food (also known as meal time)

Juggling (also known as carrying food back from buffet)

100 metre sprint to the front of the queue

How many times do you hear "It's not Canberra" at afternoon tea

Guess the age of the guest entertainer

Mystery tour (also known as trying to find your cabin)
