Hummmm....I think I would like to try the Jewel, but the dates I don't think will work for us since it doesn't come to Houston until 10/14.
Darn, this is harder than I thought!
-
You are right - just checked it out on MapQuest and it is 530 miles to Houston. Just talked to DH on this and he really doesn't want to go back to Belize, Roatan, etc. for now.
So, I guess we are staying on Getaway. But you know what????? Our NEXT cruise will be on Jewel in a suite!
-
We are booked on Getaway for May 3rd. Airfare for SW right now is about $700 which isn't bad. The Getaway does sound appealing due to the size and all the amenities - and we got on OBC of $50. So, total price WITH airfare for Getaway is about $3300.
Now, on Jewel, I can get the aft suite for about $3100 with an OBC of $300. We CAN drive down to Galveston - again about 8 hours. So, all in all, it's a wash in some respects. A tad cheaper to go down to Galveston, but if we fly down there - SW will be about $500 for both of us total.
-
I have a courtesy hold on Jewel right now for a suite on Deck 10. From what I am hearing - this may be the way to go!
-
We are pretty simple in dining options and easy to please. I know the Jewel has all the dining options we would want. We just got off Carnival Magic with the same itinerary - nothing to shout home about. We do love St. Thomas and St. Martin, so that's a plus for Getaway.
It's the airfare that makes me want to scream. We could probably get it under $900 if I try real hard, but then again, we would need to come in a day early and have the hotel expense.
Itinerary is no big deal really. I think what is important to us is the $$ and the onboard activities - shows, etc. Plus the $300 OBC is a nice perk for Jewel!

DH and I have been wanting to try NCL for a while now. We currently have the Getaway booked in May and got an aft cabin! However, airfare for us is a tad costly from OK.
Now, here is where the dilemma comes in. On the Jewel, we could get a Suite and drive down to Galveston (about 8 hours) and get an onboard credit of $300! In the long run, this would be cheaper than the aft and airfare for the Getaway. Also, which deck would be better for the aft suite? 8, 9, 10?????
So, for you experienced NCL cruisers - should our first time cruising with NCL be on the Jewel with a suite - or Getaway aft. Should we be spoiled first time out????
Thanks for any replies!

We had a wonderful PVP with Carnival. Then about a year later when I was perusing around Carnival's website thinking of booking....another PVP called me. I told this person that so and so was my PVP and they said, oh, she is not here anymore! Okay, so I book this cruise with my new PVP. About a year later, thinking of another cruise, I get another call from a different PVP. This time I did NOT book the cruise with the PVP, but online.
A while later, my original PVP called. I said they told me you were not there anymore! Of course that was a lie.
Now when I book, I email her or call her directly. I couldn't believe some of these other PVP's just flat out lied to me!
Now, for whatever it is worth, the SAME THING has happened with RCCL and NCL!
-
We have been on Carnival and RCCL. We have booked our first cruise on Getaway for May 2014. Why not just try it yourself to see if you like it? That's what we are doing!
With that being said, we have never been on a bad cruise yet! Really looking forward to Getaway!
-
Getaway is going Eastern on a 7 day. We are booked for May! St. Maarten and St. Thomas are included!
-
I just called them also regarding our upcoming Getaway cruise on May 3rd. According to NCL website, it does not state "ON SELECTED" cruises at all. However, when talking to "Lisa" at NCL, evidently it is just on selected cruises. Somewhat VERY misleading!
-
DH and I are going on our first NCL cruise next spring and we are so excited! For that reason, we can't comment on anything to improve - YET.
However, I just HATE this new website of theirs!
-
Completely understandable. However, shouldn't they have a disclaimer stating that these cabins are JUST for people with a handicap disability instead of leaving them wide open for anyone to book?
-
They are advertising this now on their website as if it was going on now, however, when you do a mock booking, it is not showing up. Nowhere on their website does it say when it starts!
-
The aft mini suites look SO much bigger than the aft balcony on these two ships. Is the $1200 difference worth it? Are they that much bigger?
Thanks for any help!
-
I guess I should have said does anyone have any experiences with the B6 on Breakaway.
-
We have booked our FIRST NCL cruise and we are so excited about it! We are going on Getaway in May. We have booked a B6 large balcony and the price was great for this new ship! However, DH and I have always sailed aft, and the aft cabin is about $400 more than the B6. I do know that an aft is still available on Deck 12.
While I know Getaway is not out yet, does anyone have any experience with the B6? Any disadvantages? We don't mind walking the long distances to get to here or there since we have always booked an aft. This would be our first time in the front of a ship and not so "high up".
So, any experiences or opinions?

Getaway it is! Thank you for making this an easy decision! I know that Getaway is Eastern, but that's okay, we love the eastern!
-
Forgive me, I do need to be more specific. We are wanting a southern Caribbean cruise. Seems the Sun and the Pearl do this. However, beings that we like the bigger ships, we are also thinking of Getaway for the eastern Caribbean. Jewel is somewhat close to us in Galveston next year also, but that does the western and we just got off Carnival Magic with the same itinerary. So, again, more specifically, Pearl, Sun, and Getaway

DH and I are contemplating our first NCL cruise. We have cruised Carnival 4x and RCCL Liberty of the Seas once. What we DID like about RCCL is their promenade deck - so many shops and things to look at! With Carnival it is much smaller with just a couple shops.
So, talk to me about promenade deck on NCL. I appreciate it!

DH has always wanted a wrap around. So, I called my PVP and we talked. Decided on the Breeze and she told me she wanted to look at something...okay, she comes back on and said, I can get you aft wrap 9475 for about the same price as a regular balcony on the Breeze (oh it might have been about less than $5/day total).
Now I have searched on here and I have heard that 9475 (as well as 9472) do not have a sofa....no big deal.....
My question is....why are these two rooms on the 9th deck less than the regular wrap arounds? Anyone stayed in these rooms? Is the balcony smaller than the other wraps?
Thanks for your responses.

I'm glad I'm normal....okay, maybe I am abnormal, but I would NEVER do some of these things!
-
DH and I have never been on an NCL cruise before, so this will be our first. We booked the 11 day Sun due to what I have read on these board, but more specifically, there are three ports that we have wanted to go such as Aruba, Curacao, and Cartegana (sp?).
We found the price for this 11 day cruise amazing! I guess it just depends on where you want to go! To say the least, we are really looking forward to cruising NCL. We have done Carnival and RCL also.

8 days on Liberty of the Seas - 10/17

21 DAYS!!! Our first time on RCL! Have a JS on Liberty!

I so do appreciate everyone's replies. But for now, we are sticking with Getaway due to the timing of the year. However, believe me, our next cruise, as long as we like NCL, which I am sure we will, will be on Jewel out of Houston and try those suite perks!
I agree that Belize is boring. On our last cruise in Belize, we went to the Altun Hum (sp?) ruins. DH had REALLY been wanting to see the ruins. We were a tad disappointed. Belize was so poor! We did do the River Wallace, and that was great fun there in Belize.
And thanks for thinking that we are a "young" couple. We would like to think so, too! However, we are close to 60!
