  1. Well, I am no Seabourn expert (yet :p) but I was pleasantly surprised at the caliber of dress onboard both voyages. Almost all women and men dressed according to the stated dress code each night and really stepped it up on formal nights. Now, the majority of men (especially in the Carribean) wore dark suits as opposed to tuxedos, but I saw those as well. I didn't see a white dinner jacket, per say, but I think it would be VERY appropriate and downright sexy (very James Bond). In other words, I don't think you can overdress on a Seabourn cruise. It's an upmarket experience, but with very down to earth passengers. Have fun with your fashion and enjoy!

Celebrity cruisers here with a white dinner jacket story. There were several couples traveling together all gentlemen were wearing tuxedos. Commenting over dinner that a white jacket might be nice on the second formal night if only they had one. Then it became whose white jacket would be cooler and who would look the "hottest" in their white dinner jacket. As I am sure that you can tell that these husbands were like 12 year olds. So the following year the contest was on. The boys brought their tuxes and the white dinner jackets. We recruited about 30 shipmates to be judges. And by secret ballot it was determined who wore it the best. My DH won by 3 votes. Lots of fun and I must say he looked fantastic!! That jacket will on the next cruise for sure.

  2. We did it once. Loved the view, very relaxing. My one issue, and I can see you have been on S class ships before, is there are only two locations with banks of elevators. It was a good hike from the aft to the closest elevator. We would also find ourselves going to the dance club up front and making that hike back to the aft. We did notice some soot occasionally on our 2 chairs and table, we just wiped it off with a towel, not a big deal.

I would agree. It is a long hike to your room. We are in an aft cabin for the second year in a row so they must not be too terrible....:D

  3. We did an island tour with Big Mike. A private tour operator that we found at the port. It was supposed to be a couple of hours but I think we ended up being about 3 or so. He took us all around the island stopping at some of the most beautiful points. As well as the batik place, the gardens there are incredible. If I remember right it was like 20 bucks a person maybe a little more. Well worth it, he was entertaining on his own.

  4. Snow City for breakfast was recommended to us and I am so glad we went! Get there early there will be a wait. We got there about 830 (later than I wanted) and we waited about 15 min but there is coffee at the door to help yourself to and it went really fast. Humpy's was good and definetly not anything you will find anywhere else.

We did the Market and it was enjoyable. Glacier Brewhouse was good as well. We also went in prior to our trip actually starting and stayed at the Marriott downtown and we were able to walk everywhere. Actually we walked 12 miles that day as well as taking the Trolley from the ulu factory back downtown. It was raining almost all of the day but that did not stop us or slow us down any. Also the F street station was an interesting place for lunch. It is located directly across from the Federal Building if I remember correctly. Have a wonderful time and be a little flexible in your planning so if something pops up that looks interesting you can make it happen.

  5. This will make people mad but so be it.

Do I think that the whole situation was handled poorly, yes absolutely. Do I think that Celebrity cheated anyone maybe maybe not. The thing is that in the three years I spent planning this trip of a lifetime with 3 other couples, not one time did any of us ask for a breakdown in price. NOT ONCE! I accept responsibilty in that fact and the fact that as a consumer I should have been more vigilent in my planning. Now that being said we have been told that the FCC will have a must sail by date on it however, it should read a book by date. Due to the number of folks who were affected they could not possibly accomodate everyone as needed.

We were on cruisetour 12 and still had a fabulous time. I was appalled with how several of our fellow travelers treated our tour guides after they recieved the cancellation information. Our group chose to make lemonaid out of lemons. We still ended up doing a cruise! It was not the exact trip we planned no but it was still a trip of a lifetime! We are all getting back together this weekend to exchange pictures and celebrate the fact that we can check it off the list.

May all of us soon recieve our FCCs and happily book another wonderful trip that goes off without a hitch!

  6. I know that the lawn club is not everyone's cup of tea, however, we played bocce, we had a putting contest and just relaxed on the grass. One evening there was a string quartet celebrity provided cushions, candles and we had wine while listening to beautiful music under the stars. The Lawn Club does have its fans.

  7. Hello ladies (and gents)! First, Happy New Year to everyone! I hope 2012 is full of happy cruises, memories and enjoyment!

I am new to Cruise Critic (and cruising for that matter; just one cruise under my belt) but found this thread and so happy I did! My grandmother booked us a cruise on the Oasis immediately after she returned from the Allure. She is an avid cruiser and a bit of a "fashionista" as well! I still have over a year and a half to wait! Which seems long but I am somewhat glad because it allows me to plan, save for and buy the clothing I want to!

For background purposes, I am 19 and live in PA and I suppose you could say am a tad bit obsessive about my clothes, especially for vacations/cruises. I already began browsing online for proper formal dress attire and am looking forward to picking things up for my upcoming cruise. Until then I will simply day dream with the rest of you lovely fashionistas on this thread :)

You are so lucky to have a grandmother and that you are able to travel with her. My grandmother was a Fashionista and I miss her like crazy. She was always looking for a way to have fun and loved to travel. I only got to go with her one time (not a cruise) and had so much fun. After she passed we took my grandfather and my mother on a cruise and we had an amazing time.

So please savor every moment you get with her and go as much as possible!!

Happy Cruising. Grandparents are a blessing!:)

  8. CruiseDivaNJ: Welcome to CCF! One of the nice things about this thread is, since it isn't cruise specific, we can come back often & catch up at our leisure.

I love the threads for my upcoming cruises...but when the cruise is over so is the thread...but not here:cool::)!

We want to hear about your process for choosing outfits and packing. Please keep reading!

MONDAY THOUGHTS: Why do I make such a BIG deal about Everything Clothes Related for a cruise???? I've been trying to answer that question...

First, Mother Nature didn't bless me with movie-star beauty; but what she did give me, I want to make the best of.

Second - I REALLY want people to like me...family, friends, neighbors...and yes, fellow cruisers who I will most likely never see again. If every person you speak to, sit at dinner with, go on excursions with...even lounge at the bar with...perceives you as friendly, happy and confident - it makes for a positive experience. And when cruising, every moment should be positive:).

And Last - I want DH to be pleased when he looks at me.

Have been lurking on this thread for a while and this is the statement that struck a chord with me. I think that this is a great statement and pretty much exactly how I try to live my life. I try to surround myself with positive people. Thank you for positive thoughts and have a Merry Christmas!:)

  9. Our first cruise I took 6 pairs, over time I have figured out a way to cut it down. One pair of dressy shoes, one pair of sandals that can be worn with shorts or to the pool one pair of sandals for casual wear and I wear a pair of walking shoes on board. I guess when I spell it out like that I really haven't cut down very much have I. Hmmm:D
