  1. No 8 is correct. The tap water onboard is just as good, or maybe even better than any bottled water. I do not know whether the tap water contains flouride, but I believe that it is absent in most bottled water.

  2. Used Park n Go many times. Very happy with them. Felt safe leaving my car...a shuttle is always available the minute we arrive and one is always at the pier within minutes of our debarkation....and we've often done self-debarkation and been the first ones off the ship. I've seen other people waiting in the same spot who had been waiting 20 or more minutes for another shuttle company....not so with Park n Go!

That other outfit might have been Park N Fly, which we have used because we are not fond of valet parking.

  3. It has been a while since we were in the Miami area; hence, I cannot offer any personal experiences. However, I have met one person who often travels there on business; and, he opines that if you visit the rentless or various work areas you are safer if you are armed.

  4. The same is true for Sanibel, and Ft. Myers Beach etc. Of course, here in SWFL the sand is white, not tan or brown. The sand at Siesta, Lido, Crescent beaches is also softer than most of the beaches farther south,, with the possible exception of Ft. Myers Beach, which is almost as soft. The sand at Marco is also very white, but a little bit difficult to walk on due to its coarness. Most of the beach at Marco is raked daily; and, pets are not allowed.

By the way, my views are based upon personal observations. Simply stated, I have personally visited all of the areas to which I refer, and many more. Lastly, I offer no dogmatic presentations. In other words, I report and you decide.

  5. We parked with Safe Cruise Parking during our cruise on 3/2 - 3/9/2014. It was the old Premier lot before the 2013 disgruntled employee incident. This company does NOT keep your keys. There was a short wait on the shuttle to the ship as well as after the cruise. They gave us large colored stickers to identify us through the throngs of off loaded passengers in a designated area. It seemed to work well as we were picked out of the crowd immediately straight to an awaiting van. They also loaded our luggage at both points. A lot with a six foot chain link fence topped with barbed wire and advertised security checks. Not the best area with hordes of homeless down the street. However, our vehicle was in excellent condition just as we'd left it. I-95 North ramp about two blocks away. $7.99 @ day.

Interesting. I wonder if Blue Herons has any personal information vis-a-vis this facility?

  6. The sand is hot because it is basically ground up rock and shell which are heat conductors. When the sun is up, the sand is hot. when the sun sets, the sand then gets cold.

On the west coast, the sand has a much, much higher quartz composite which does not hold heat. Once you get to Siesta Key, it is almost 99% quartz so even in the middle of August at noon, the sand is cool.

  7. Because Miami has so many other problems going on, the police don't care that these places are ripping off tourists.

I've preached until I'm blue in the face that there is NO safe parking outside the Port of Miami but some fool always comes along and insists I'm wrong.

Miami is a very corrupt city and someone is always trying to scam you. The parking business scams the tourists so no one cares.

    No one.

How long have you resided in Ft. Lauderdale?

  8. Personally, I would not want to live there due to the very heavy traffic that you have to get through either from Las Olas or 17th St. There is much less traffic a few miles north in Fort Lauderdale and Lauderdale by the Sea. I wonder if they've done any recent renovations...I went to a party there about 5-10 yrs ago in the party room and it was really dated, in heavy nautical decor. If it hasn't been renovated you could get hit with huge assessments when the board decides it's time to do so.

I assume that you are unaware if said area has been renovated. Quite frankly, I am impressed by this condo (s); and, I am somewhat reminded of a condo we once owned on Estero Island, wherein, in high season, the traffic in ingress and egress was very heavy. However, once you arrived, you really did not care.

  9. I hope you meant to say you want to sail in 2015:D;):)........

But 1915 was when my late father, God rest his soul, was 24 years old; and, it was prior to the U.S.involvement in WWI, of which he was a veteran of.

  10. One question for summertime renters. In years gone by, I have visited most of the beaches on the SE but always in high season. However, about three years ago the wife and I visited West Palm in August, and we could not walk on the tan (brown) sand without beach shoes because of the heat. Interestingly, we do not have this problem on the west coast due to the white sand.

  11. Is there anyone that can post some up to date comments on parking at the port in Miami please. Most of all that is here is old and give you mixed feelings about all the parking. Thanks to all for any help.

Agreed. Sadly, most of the informative posts are fairly old; and, at least one is very dogmatic.

  12. If you see in my signature the Cruise Calendar Time Clock, Jerome and I sail on November 10th for the 11 night Equinox Caribbean. By the way, it's our 25th Anniversary and that is a long time for our kingdom....heck, long time for any kingdom!

There are over 40 cabins already booked in our JW and Jerome's Excellent Adventure on The Equinox!.

That is one cruise we will avoid.

  13. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In about 15 minutes, I will have spinach with Smart Balance buttery spread, Parmesan cheese, covered with two fried eggs, and salsa. Also, green tea and skim milk.

Additionally, V-8 juice. This breakfast constitutes seven good points; and, as I am sure you are all aware five to nine good points is suggested for the maintenance of good health.

  15. I was lead to believe that the waitstaff doesn't receive tips at the happy hour (not with vouchers). I usually tip a dollar for DW and self and get fantastic service.

I believe that that is correct. We always tip $1.00, per drink, since we feel anything else is cheap.

  16. The breakfasts in Blu are wonderful, but the lattes and expressos are not complimentary. We generally have breakfast in blu and then go to the elite lounge for a latte.

You can also receive bloody marys etc.; and the smoked salmon is wonderful. I agree that the pacakes are outstanding; and, one of my favorites is eggs up with the asparagus, fingerling potatoes, mushrooms and bacon.
