  1. Grand Cayman is, in my opinion, the most civilized port of call in the Caribbean. Go to Stingray City, but book it privately and not through the ship. It will be a much more enjoyable experience. It’s easy to find vendors online who do tours to Stingray City. I like Ocho Rios too. Phil Lafayette took us to climb the Dunn’s River Falls. It was a fun, collective effort as you climb the Falls in long human chains. You get a nice sense of accomplishment as you climb the Falls. There are guides to show you wear to step as you climb. There are other things to do and see in both Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios.

  2. I like meclizine (Brand name Bonine). It’s OTC and I think for me that it is less sedating and more effective than Dramamine. I typically do not get sick on board the ship at all. However after I get home I have “sea legs” for a few days. It’s not debilitating but a little annoying. I think “guest services” on the ship can give you some meclizine or Dramamine if you forgot to pack it. Remember that the overwhelming majority of people do not get sick onboard. The modern cruise ship is so large that it takes a lot of “the roll” out of the ocean. Good Luck.

  3. Good post, altho Irish, on the one SB cruise we took, there was a wet t shirt contest....Granted, it was not Carnival sponsored, a few of the Frat Boys put it together on the edge of the pool and contestants were members of a Sorority and whomever else wanted to participate

While there were Carnival attendants out there, they didnt seem to mind the spontaneous activities. DJ stopped his set and played music accordingly with the contest....I would have to put that entertainment right up there as the best over the 4 days....I have never seen parents move so fast to get their little snowflakes out of the pool so quickly and hustle them away :loudcry:

I will bet that Carnival got some complaints about allowing the non sanctioned wet t-shirt contest. Years ago Carnival used to have an out of the way, age controlled “topless sunbathing deck.” Only got to experience it once with my wife before the Puritans took it away. That would have been an appropriate venue for the impromptu wet t-shirt contest.

  4. We have taken at least 10 week long Spring Break cruises over the years on both Carnival and Costa. We never had any issues with college kids acting wild. Sadly there were no wet t-shirt contests onboard. If college kids want to get wild on Spring Break they go to Cancun where there is no minimum drinking age. Remember Carnival will not serve them alcohol if they are not 21. There will be families onboard with younger children running amok however. The worst age group are unsupervised tweens and young teens.

  5. We are Florida residents so the vast majority of our cruises have been to the Caribbean. However we did sail to Alaska from Seattle and we did sail to the Pacific Mexican Rivera from Long Beach. Enjoyed them all. The Carnival part was always the same. Alaska was the most different because of wardrobe, having an onboard naturalist on the bridge describing the wildlife as we sailed by, the scenery in Alaska is just unbelievable and the husky puppies in the Yukon are so darn cute. Every Carnival cruiser should try to do the Alaska run. Go to Seattle a couple days early. Go see a Mariners game, go to the Space Needle and go to Pike Place Market where you can get fresh fish packed in ice for the flight home.

  6. The overwhelming vast majority of our cruises were in our home state of Florida and during Spring Break. We never experienced any aberrant behavior on board the ship. What you do see is a lot of families traveling with younger children. The college age kids tend to do land vacations for Spring Break. The state of Florida has run off most that crowd over the years. Cancun, Mexico is their preferred destination.
