  1. The only comp I got wasn't on carnival and it was just a sweatshirt because the air conditioner was malfunctioning and it was 54 degrees in our room

Guess I should have pointed out that a sweatshirt was all I asked for and was given one immediately. I don't complain much either but 54 when it was only 70 outside was mighty cold.

  2. Clearly he was not being accompanied by a parent. His father was not in the sauna nor the shower, so he was not being accompanied. I'm not trying to place blame here, just pointing this out so that others don't make the same mistake. Rules are put in place for a reason.

Call me crazy but by accompanied I assume that means the parent has to be somewhere in the facility Not necessarily right at the piece of equipment the child was using. And quite frankly I am gonna be quite a bit concerned about a 16 year old in the shower with his father both naked. That's very suspect

  3. I was told we could not place the urn, even though it was biodegradable, in the ocean, we literally had to open the bag and scatter the ashes. I was glad, it just felt uncomfortable to toss the box over, so I am happy with how they required me to do it and it just felt good to see the ashes blowing in the wind.

As to "ashes blowing into loved ones" that won't happen, that's why they "take" you to a specific spot on the ship, I was told the bridge would provide instructions so that this specifically would not happen and the ashes would blow with the wind and not against it.

How long ago was that because when Dad was cremated we specifically asked for the proper urn for burial at sea and I understood we could just throw the urn into the water.

  4. As to the broken wrist...Medical should have at least given her something for the pain but unfortunately the nurse is correct...If it was swelled up to 3 times it size you have to ice and elevate and with that much swelling you would need an orthapedic to set if necessary...Ships doctor wouldn't have the expertise.

As to the lady with the broken foot...Carnival did exactly what it should have done...Maybe offered her a free dinner in the steakhouse or a free drink or something too but that's about it

  5. Wow...I don't understand some people at all. We are burying my dad at sea. We don't want any fanfare or readings or any of that. We just want a quiet place where we can throw his urn in with the dolphins (hopefully they will find him) and say goodbye.

  6. Serious question, please don't take offense.

Do diabetics take steak, eggs, chicken, and fish to sit around in their room in case of a hypoglycemic event? I just got off the the Sky and this policy was in effect. I saw no issue taking fruit and other items that can sit without needing refrigeration. It seems that the items they are really asking you to leave are cooked items that would not be safe to eat hours later. What, exactly, are these foods you want in your room? I'm really curious. Wouldn't a bag of Skittles be the ideal thing....it's easily portable and won't melt or spoil in normal temperatures.

If you are a hypoglycemic (as opposed to being a diabetic w/too much insulin taken) then yes glucose pills, a bag of skittles, a glass of orange juice etc...will help in the short term. However to truly stabilize blood sugar a balance of protein and carbs are needed. If I have an episode and eat my glucose tablets to at least get to the point that I am not shaking and dizzy I still do not feel well enough to schlep myself up to the Lido deck, stand in the buffet line carrying a heavy plate, walking around for 20 minutes to find someplace to sit in order to eat....It takes much less time to send my travelling companion to the buffet to grab what I need and bring back to the cabin while I am laying down. So yes this is a deal breaker for many who have medical conditions and disabilities. I realize that doesn't effect the NCL rah rahs but soon Del-Feeo will do something that will effect you and you will move on to another line eventually

  7. Trying to generate a little more light than heat here.

The only way the whole "bringing food from elsewhere on the ship back to your cabin" thing would be a dealbreaker is seeing passengers eating snacks in their underwear in the Lido instead of back in their cabin.

I'm having a hard time believing crew will care or even notice so long as passengers are reasonably discreet about taking stuff out of other food venues. On the other hand, if you're traveling in a herd and take back enough to feed the herd, you pretty much deserve what you get.

Apparently on current cruises unless you pay for a suite you are not being allowed to take any food from any of the dining rooms back to your cabin...But hey you have a good idea there...We can all go to the Lido in our underwear to eat...Maybe then they will change the policy.

The fun part will be paying extra to dine in a specialty restaurant and have to deal with someones young child having a melt down while trying to dine because the parents won't find it prudent to remove the child from the restaurant until after they have completed their meal that they paid for

  8. Something people forget regarding vacations - if one can afford to travel for that much, you should be able afford the associated costs as well. And if one can't afford those things then one should rethink about their vacation plans, even if its a cruise or a resort.

Well if I have to afford to spend extra for food on NCL that is free on Carnival, Royal Carribean, Princess, Holland America...What exactly would be my incentive for spending money to go on NCL for less amenities. For that matter I can go to an all-inclusive resort and smoke on my room balcony as well. Its a pretty simple concept to most of us. I'm sorry but yes being unable to eat when and where I want to while on vacation is a deal breaker to me. I am able to do so during a regular work-day why would I want someone telling me I can only eat when and where they say so while I am on vacation or have to pay for something I experience when I am not on vacation?

  9. If you smoke or vap in a room on a RC ship you are breaking the rules……on board policies..look them up yourself……...

so is smuggling booze on board but I don't give a flying leap if someone chooses to do so. And If you look at my signature you will see I haven't sailed RCCL for quite a long time therefore I have broken no rules.

  10. I cannot believe someone would bother to post such a detailed bizarrre post.............. FYI I am not a smoker. This post was just too funny!!!!!

This is the norm from RDC1 which is why I didn't bother posting anything because he would just refute it with some other study that Glantz did blah blah blah.

He seems to think that any studies funded by the e-cigarette industry are worthless and all studies by ANTZ are the only ones valid. Part of the issues with current research is none of it is real world situations. For instance the formaldyhyde news that recently came out...It is interesting but nobody vapes in any way shape or form the way they did during the research.

The particulate study that RDC1 references put 9 people in a tiny well ventilated room and had them vape for several continuous hours...Doubt you will ever see that.

It is the same way they manipulated the second-hand smoke cigarette studies to make it seem like second-hand smoke is much more dangerous then car exhaust, smog, ozone, etc...

  11. Quite agree! It's yet another example of someone who says I don't care about the rules, I will vape where and when I like, and I don't give a damn.

Hope I am not the unfortunate one to take over the cabin when he has finished vaping in it!

It's sad really, to see another addiction taking over, where people cannot even go to see a movie unless they can suck on their e-cig. What did they do when smoking was banned in movie theatres and there were NO e-cigs? Is this progress? Seems to me the addiction is even worse!

You wouldn't have a clue I was vaping in the cabin. I'm a she. And I'm not above the rules as I didn't break any...You must have missed the part where Maryland has not banned vaping anywhere...I.E. ANYWHERE!!! That includes movie theaters, restaurants, grocery stores etc...so I haven't broken any damn rules.

As for respect...You people have no respect for smokers so why would you expect respect from smokers?

  12. Some of us don't respect vaping bans outdoors...Sorry but the chances of you breathing in any of my vaping byproduct if I am out on my balcony are slim and none...And I mean extremely slim...more likely none. I use my vape in my cabin because quite frankly nobody is in there but me and my cabin mate and neither one of us care and nobody else knows unless they see me do it.

As for the rest...Maryland has not banned vaping anywhere. Until it does then yes I will use my vape in a bar or the bar portion of the restaurant, in the casino, one time I can say i vaped at the movies but in my defense it was a 4 hour movie with no intermission

To put vapors out with the smokers is stupid...why can't they have a vaping area where smokers are not allowed to light up?

  13. Were these studies done by the FDA?

Is second hand vaping byproduct less safe or as safe as not breathing in second hand byproduct?

The FDA doesn't do studies...They farm out research money to others.

So far studies show second hand vaping byproduct is as safe as not breathing in second hand byproduct...I.e. as safe as breathing regular room air with all of its contaminants

  14. Please don't misunderstand this question.

But can someone explain to me what a PTSD dog does for them and what breeds they might know of that have been used.

A good friend of mine has PTSD [and mean bad] after being caught in a bombing, before hand he was involved in breeding and showing dogs, I'm wondering if it might help him on two levels?

I know pit bulls have been used...And mutts from shelters. Basically the PTSD dog helps calm their person down when they get agitated. I watched a news interview with a guy with a service dog and it was pretty amazing to see what the dog did for him. Google it...It is on youtube somewhere

  15. Actually what is rather funny is for all its claims, it still does show an increased trend towards increased lung cancer. The problem is that the study is not sized to actually show statistical significance. That is considerably different then saying that shs does not result in increased lung cancer.

How many studies would you like to see that have shown other results?

    I rest my case :)

  16. Of course no one is perfect and of course we all affect one another. But no, I don't think there is any sane reason to support smoking or suggest that smokers have "the right" to smoke, especially around others. It's an addiction like heroine is an addiction. Doesn't make it okay. We cannot support or defend truly bad things just because some like it or say they like it because of their addiction.

There is one problem with your train of thought. Tobacco is a legal product for purchase and use in the entire world. Heroin -- Not so much. Everyone has the right to use any legal product.

  17. Not according to the WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION 7 year study into the impact of ETS http://jnci.oxfordjournals.org/content/90/19/1440.full.pdf

For those who can not be bothered reading it all there was 2 startling results

    1. The risk rating for a non smoker in continual exposure to ETS was 1.16 or 16% but you have to remember that is 16% of 0.01

    2. That children exposed to ETS were 22% less likely to contract lung cancer again that's still only 22% of 0.01

There are a lot of studies taking place at the moment into the coincidental rise in asthma cases in 1st world countries and the drop in smoking rates

    another interesting article http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100251229/passive-smoking-another-of-the-nanny-states-big-lies/

I have no problem with NCL new restrictions based on fire safety but disagree with them being implemented on the grounds of bad science

I wasn't going to go there with Mr. I have read studies that back up my opinion and your studies don't count but I didn't because it is an exercise in futility...However I am kinda glad that someone else did

  18. 1) They do smell.

    2) Unless you quit smoking less than 72 hours prior, you are NOT having nicotine withdrawal. Nicotine withdrawal happens when your levels start to deplete, and the body wants more. After 72 hours, the juice has left your body entirely.

what you are experiencing is a craving based on habit. There are many ways to distract yourself from this, including:

    - Brush your teeth

    - chew a stick of gum

    - do something associated with water (because you didn't used to smoke with wet hands)

    - wait 10 minutes & it will pass.

    I smoked a pack-a-day daily for 20 years. Quit cold-turkey, 13 years ago.

At the time there was a bulletin board similar to CC, called QuitStop, where hundreds of people were quitting at the same time.

Not only are the above suggestions successful for me, but they were standard recommendations on the bulletin board.

If you've decided to quit, the above should help, more than an e-cig ever will.

    .

Actually Nicotine Withdrawal starts 2-3 hours after smoking a cigarette unless you have smoked another one during that time. It peaks 48 hours after you quit...so yes when a smoker wakes up in the morning they are in withdrawal. It sucks and sorry brushing my teeth or chewing gum does not make that withdrawal go away...It will distract me from feeding the withdrawal but the symptoms are still there
