  1. Hi Ed,

Live about 45 minutes south of you and am having difficulty understanding what hurricane season and trip insurance have to do with one another. We buy trip insurance to ward against unexpected medical issues. As others have told you, no cruise line is going to sail into a hurricane and you will be leaving from Port Canaveral, thus it is not an issue. They would change course to avoid the storm. Their ships as well as their employees are very high priority as are their passengers. Tell DW not to worry.

    Grace

I perfectly agree. But DW will not believe me, but when I tell her all my friends on CC say not to worry about it, it will be fine.:D

  2. Cruising on Oasis July 23. Had not bought insurance as we usually don't. Only bought insurance on trips where flights were involved. Live in Florida and will drive to the pier.

DW is getting jittery over Hurricanes. I

However, I told her the chances of RCI outright canceling a cruise are basically non existent. They would change the itinerary maybe even to the point of being a week-long cruise at sea before that.

Thoughts? Am I basically correct that RCI would almost never cancel a cruise, meaning we would be on the hook even if we decide not to go? (Cancel for any reason not available and 3X the price)

    TIA,

    Ed

  3. This thread has made me dizzy (or more dizzy than normal). So my question is: my final payment date is tomorrow for an August cruise. My cruise planner shows a balance due about $500 less than I really owe. Do I pay what RCCL is asking for or the amount I know I still owe on the cruise?

    Thanks.

You need to pay what you actually owe on the cruise. What we see on the website is not accurate. Call the 866 number at the top of the RCI page and use the automated system to send you a confirmation if you need to or just call and get a person on the phone.

  4. So I guess I am behind the times.. My sister & I both cruising in 3 wks noticed our credit also. No news yet from Rcc? I guess they just don't see it on their end? It don't understand why this company doesn't spend more $$ on IT issues? Its embarrassing bringing family on to sail when this happens all the time..

Yes, from other posts of people who have called or texted, everything looks fine on their end. And frankly I don't understand why this has not been fixed yet. But you can get a confirmation from them to make sure you cruise is paid off and check cruise planner to see everything is still there so nothing to worry about.

  5. Same issue for our cruise on 7/6. It switched over exactly 30 days prior. I have a feeling it is IT issues related to making onboard accounts active, thereby transferring shore excursions, dining, drinks etc to the account, and making the computer see the money you paid for them as "extra", since the items have been moved.

Just a theory from the combination of my travel agent background and my husband's IT background.

Way to early for that. I don't sail for 45 days. That wouldn't happen until at least the three day window when you can no longer purchase excursions, etc.

  6. I'm more concerned with lower positive balances than the true total outstanding balance (such as myself!)

If I paid off the outstanding balance on the website, I know that's lower than the true outstanding balance (based on the invoice)

Although the website would show £0.00, their own screens (I presume) would still show the correct outstanding balance. Therefore, they'd think i'd underpaid and my reservations would be cancelled...

Pay from the invoice, or better call RCI and pay over the phone with a rep who knows what you owe, at least until IT works this all out. You can also call8665627625 and use the automated system to get a confirmation emailed which should show the correct balance. Mine was correct and I just did it.

  7. My point here was not to invite a bunch of "how could you be so stupid to fall for that" kind of posts, but I guess some people can't resist.

My point was that I assumed that Invicta should be somewhat better than the $10 watches or the ones sold for 39.99 in the gift sets. So I was sharing my experience with the community.

I think all of us who cruise regularly are completely aware that any of the sales on ships are usually no where near as good as they would like you to think. But lacking internet (I never buy VROOM because I like being out of touch) I couldn't research it, and as I stated originally really only bought it because I was spending "free money".

So Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware) when shopping while cruising, as apparently even buying the more name-brand Citizen watches can be hit or miss.

But enjoy your next cruise, as I well at the end of the July. Maybe I'll wait until then to get my next watch. ;p

  8. If you are shopping on a RCI ship and are tempted at the Invicta watches always on sale at 70 percent or so off, don't bother. They aren't worth that.

First, what you pay is probably still more than what you would pay on Amazon for the Rolex wanna-be's. Secondly they are crap.

Bought mine two years ago on Enchantment. I was up a couple hundred on blackjack so treated myself. Only saving grace of this story is the feeling I really didn't pay anything since it was BJ winnings.

Six months later watch starts running very fast, gaining several hours each day. It took most of the rest of the year to actual get Invicta to respond to emails and phone calls to get the watch in for warranty. Finally connected and sent the watch in. Got an email that the warranty would be honored for the $29 service charge and I would get a new mechanism.

Nearly six months later I got the watch back. Then two weeks ago it started running slow - losing maybe 5 minutes a week. OK I'll reset it once a week.

Than tonight the second hand falls off.

Back to cheap watches from Walmart.

  9. Enchantment of the Seas has a slightly bigger casino and if I remember correctly had a better assortment of slot machines. I don't know which one pays out better, but if I were choosing a ship based on casino and other amenities I would choose Enchantment over Majesty.

By virtue of being a bigger ship, yes. I have found that other than size Casino is same from ship to ship. I have one specific slot machine I like to play whatever casino I am at at sea or dry land.

  10. Try private browsing mode, that has helped some with the blank page thing.

Seemed to work. What was interesting is that it looked like an older version of the booking engine, and when it got to the final price it was showing the 30 percent off of all pax instead of every 3rd night free as the discount.

    Oh well.

    Thanks!

  11. I've been pretty much Royal recently. We like to cruise form either PC or Tampa (2 hour drive) which means mostly a choice between Royal and Carnival and Royal wins for us. Don't know what the expectations are for meals on a cruise ship, we find the MDR food wonderful, can't think of anything that has been bad, maybe not to my taste but that's easily fixed - just get something else.

And the trolls are everywhere - here and on the RCI Facebook groups. Some people just like to be negative.

As for the Original Post, I thought it was cute. :)

  12. I'll be on Brilliance in January and I'm looking for info on the tables. How many 3-card poker and Ultimate Texas Holdem tables do they have? What are the minimums? Overall, are the dealers friendly?

In general, I think you can usually find $6 min BJ. Also there is regularly essentially happy hour BJ with lower mins. Enjoy!

  13. Hi everyone!

I just received an invoice this morning from Royal for one of my reservations on Navigator. I didn't ask for it, and the email contained the line "Please find the documents you requested below". Only, I didn't request any documents...

Should I be worried about this? The invoice is accurate, but I'm worried that someone accessed my reservation illegally or something....

I seem to think I always get them. Just a confirmation. And if you make a change or have OBC on your account you probably want to request one so you have an invoice that shows the additions.

  14. Just left the Celebrity Silhoutte and we loved having a free beverage package.

I really dont want to pay for it.

Does Royal ever have specials where they include their beverage package?

I cannot recall seeing any but I wasn't really looking either.

Last summer I got a free Select (beer and wine) pack on Jewel on a seven day Greek Isles. but they don't offer that pack anymore, and I doubt they would give the VIP pack away, but you never know.

  15. We got off Freedom yesterday and they had the worst Bar Service we have ever seen. While the first day my DW and I joked that they were saving us money in the casino because we had to quit gambling and go to the bar and wait for service. However that was short lived, on the second day I was playing a machine wanted a drink so i took my money out and went to the bar, after waiting quite a while to get served went back to my machine, someone had taken it over and hit a good one. Regretfully when I let the machine, no one was around to hold it for me so I could have left my money in it.

A lot of people were complaining about the service, hopefully they all put it in the survey.

Huh. I've found bar service in casinos universally great, servers always around. And if not, I ask the dealer and they call for one who shows up pretty quickly.

  16. Nowadays nonsailing guest visits are uncommon, with the exceptions above.. Back in the day it was common practice for family members to be able to accompany the sailing pax on board until disembark time , I remember going on board the old Song of Norway with my grandmother many years ago. The common announcement was the old "all ashore that's going ashore. " :) .

This changed after 9/11 if not before. Seems to me that it has lightened up a bit as I don't' recall such announcements until recently.
