  1. Had a nice week on silhouette. Missed the connections get together, feel asleep on deck.

Here are my observations from a first timer on Celebrity. Just my thoughts no need to shoot the messenger, again observations.

-underwhelmed by main dining room menu selections and service and food. Close to 2 hours for dinner, food sub par.

    - lawn club and Tuscan grill excellent however too pricey. $45 per person.

    group.

If Celebrity would up its game and improve food in dining room I would go back. Unfortunately the food was not as good as on other lines in the main dining room and spending $90 a night to eat at specialty restaurants too pricey to add to cost of cruise..

That is what many are saying. We no longer eat in the MDR, however, we have had the MDR everyday selections in BLU, so have had some of the food and haven’t had a problem. That was mainly the chicken, steak or escargot.

  2. I did not have the best experience my first cruise on the Summit. Was giving Celebrity a second chance on 3/3 on the Equinox till they left myself and several others stranded on the pier in San Juan. They couldn't dock due to bad weather off shore, which I understand, but they knew this prior to us flying to meet the ship in San Juan and never contacted anyone. When we arrived to find no ship all they could say was "sorry, nothing we can do, you are on your own now" at least 30 of us. No offer to fly us home, put us up for the night, get us to next port, NOTHING!!! The customer service has been horrible.

Why were 30 people flying to San Juan to meet the ship? Where did the cruise start and was this the second day? Why was the weather Celebrity’s fault that they could not dock and should pay for the group to meet the ship.

We use insurance that covers missed connections.

  3. I am looking to book a longer cruise. I am not asking for price protection. I will pay the going rate for the cruise. I was expecting, based on reading the letter that my OBC incentive would go with me to the new cruise.

This seems like a reasonable request that you get the OBC incentive for having to move your cruise. Note that I could not read your letter ( I am on an iPhone).

I agree with others that at least part of the problem is your TA who is not getting this resolved.

  4.

So, if HAL offers the right itinerary we'll still check it out. We're really interested to see what's in the Maasdam's future with the zodiac excursions. But, so far we haven't seen any of her fall 2019/spring 2020 itineraries.

    .

Zodiac excursions on Maasdam? Which itinerary, and where did you read this?

My DH says it best. “HAL is boring”.

We travel on HAL for the itineraries and wonderful crew. We also think the food overall is better than Celebrity (closest comparison), but their ships are so much more fun.

So we come back to HAL for the itineraries, food and crew.

  5. Well, I have word from my TA that well too bad for me and my two week vacation. I have suggested a different cruise but they are refusing to do anything for me as it is not one of the offers they want to give me. Does anyone have contact information with a higher up with Celebrity

What is it they are not agreeing to do? Can you explain what you want to book? Are you trying to exchange a 4 night cruise, for example, to a 7 night cruise, at the same price? Are they refusing to give you any OBC?

Some cruise lines will protect the per diem (price per day). But it’s not realistic to expect the same price for a longer cruise (I am not saying that is what you want to do) if the cruise is a year away.

  6. Well in my case (for the booking I am holding) to change to a non-refundable deposit will cost me an additional $500 pp. And HAL calls that a "sale". And has the nerve to say "for a limited time only". Now this is what I call crazy!!!

It seems the only sale right now is with non refundable deposits. I wonder what the next “sale” will be.

  7. If you want to go to Cuba, I think Veendam is your best reasonably priced option. We are planning on doing one of these itineraries.

She was our first HAL cruise and we have been on her more than once. Expect good food and a great crew. HAL is know for itineraries and crew.

  8. Some of this is a lot about personalities. I am a stubborn character and I would have explored any possible scenario where I could meet this cruise in another port. Sure beats giving up and going home with no cruise at all.

But that is just me. :)

Sad for them that they missed a cruise.

If someone is convinced it is the cruise lines fault and they should have been told they need Visa’s, than they would have been convinced (in error), that they could just go home and get an attorney, refund and/or have the money transferred to another cruise. I do hope the OP comes back with an update.

We would have been meeting the ship at the next port. We have disembarked, left multiple cruise lines to go traveling on our own and met up with the ship at a different port (typically another country) multiple times, as well as disembarked early. But I understand not everyone is comfortable doing that. Where was the OP/Adult children or travel agent (one reason it’s better to have an outside agent), in trying to coordinate.

  9. I don't know where your parents live, but here in the USA there is a multi-step process involved, the online paperwork is just the beginning. Different consulates have different rules. For applicants in my part of the USA, passports, USPS money order, and hard copy paperwork must be turned in to the Brazilian Consulate in Chicago. Processing time is 10 days, or 15 days for mailed applications, and expedited service is not offered.

And other cities you can walk right in and pick them up later in the day.

  10. September 2017 so 6 months ago, when did you last go?

My future cruise lines are not Celebrity, therefore not a topic on a Celebrity board.

I find it interesting that those who think Celebrity is the best thing since sliced bread keep posting, posting, posting even years after sailing. But if you didn't like them, in very recent history one is not allowed to warn new punters that all is not what it appears from reading Celebrity threads on here.

But whatever these threads are for, and I do begin to wonder what they are for, they are not an arena to argue who can post, who will post and who will be bombarded when they don't like a beloved line, so on this thread I have said my last, you will be pleased to know, but underline THIS thread and not the Celebrity forum.

We were last on Summit for a 7 night cruise in November/December. We have only cruised AQU class since they added BLU. My DH is a professional Chef but we do not cruise for the food. We understand that shipboard food is banquet food cooked for thousands of people.

On our last cruise we decided to book an OV since it was only 7 nights, but after the hurricane in Puerto Rico Celebrity allowed many people to "cancel" (I believe most who wanted were able to move their booking to another cruise within 6 months) within final payment as there was really an issue for many with canceled flights and no available hotel rooms. Many flew in the day of the cruise. Our travel agent was able to negotiate an upgrade from an ocean view to Deck 11 AQU for $0.00 additional cost. In fact, Celebrity was upgrading it seems everyone on our roll call who wanted to move. They were very accommodating!

My DH does not really eat breakfast but likes to grab a banana in the buffet after working out but I enjoy BLU. He also does not eat dessert. They removed the muesli carts (not covered and we were told they had to for health reasons after a ship inspection) a few years ago (the last time we saw the cart was in 2014 on Solstice). Instead I have been able to have the muesli made to my specifications. Usually they would bring the muesli and a plate of different dried fruit, fresh fruits, and nuts I requested so I could mix what I wanted. You had mentioned the bad white wine. We were able to change ours out for a bottle of Malbec for no additional charge. Note that we did this at Qsine.

We enjoyed the entertainment, and company of our friends onboard and friendliness of Captain Kate and other crew members.

My DH's main comment regarding dining was that he enjoyed the dining experience better on our last HAL cruise because of the traditional dining where we had the same wait staff every night. In BLU we had different waiters every night and never got to know anyone. We are not willing to wait to get a particular table or waiter.

I believe the reason you are getting pushback is the tone of your posts. Many people come back and say they were disappointed, but they post the good and the bad. You only have negative comments and nothing positive to say. Did you not enjoy any entertainment, past passenger parties, activities or anything? What about your cabin or room stewards? Instead you call food "rubbish".

I see you are going on P & O and perhaps you will enjoy that better. I also see you are looking at pulling tips/hotel charges and don't understand that when you haven't set foot on the ship yet.

  11. Gladly. I am averse to eggs so that limits the menu severely.

But I ordered muesli, and believed that there would be some sort of tableside preparation by reading these threads. But it came like cold porridge,

They stopped making the tableside muesli a few years ago because of health codes/reasons. They no longer had it in 2015 while on Millennium. We were told at the time that they removed the carts after US inspections and the fact the carts were not covered. On that cruise we were told by staff that they were designing new carts with a shield, but never saw those.

The last time I had this prepared tableside was in 2014 on Solstice.

They will however make the muesli to your specifications. I asked for dried fruit and fresh bananas with mine while on Summit.

  12. Hello, is anyone fresh off an Aqua cruise who can help me with a Blu question? I have seen posts saying if you want something off the MDR menu you can ask in Blu and they will get it and I have seen they don't. Really hoping I can get my French Onion Soup ! Hoping maybe someone just off can update...we will be on the Equinox in March.

Also a general question, we have the internet package this time, how do you get your codes etc.?

Thanks so much for any help !

My DH orders the French Onion soup many times while in BLU. We were most recently on Summit.
