  1. We stayed in what is now called an L1 (sea view side) CL and it was great. Not sure what you are upgrading from, but if it is below suite category to this category for only $1000, I would jump at it.

The suites are unique to this class of ship, with two bathrooms and a great master shower (no tubs in either.) The motion isn't an issue at all, but even it were, it would be less so in the aft cabins as you move closer to the centreline of the ship.

Deck 17 is quiet (with keycard access) and has commanding views.

I wouldn't hesitate at that price.

We originally booked a junior suite guarantee and have yet to get our suite assignment.
  2. We may have an opportunity to stay in a Crown Loft suite (the ones that look out the back of the ship) or our upcoming cruise. If anyone has stayed in one, is it worth the difference in price. Our cost would increase approximately $1,000. I am aware of the suite perks so I don't need to know anything about those. What's it like on the 17th deck? Do you feel any motion up there? If you have experience with this, I would love to know what you thought about it.:)

  3. From the Renaissance, these are a VERY short walk: Bravo, Bimini Boatyard, Market 17. They all have websites and are on the review sites, so you can look them up before you arrive. There is also a restaurant in the hotel but I haven't been there for yrs and I don't think it gets great reviews. From the airport, just get a taxi for $15. Have a great trip!
Thank you so much for responding so quickly. Your suggestions sound very interesting and very different. I have looked at their websites and Market 17 really peaks my interest and taste buds. Hmmmmm.....yummy!
  4. Hi Royal, I've been reading all of your terrific advice and suggestions and as someone said, you should write a book. My husband and I will be staying at the Renaissance for our October 2012 Oasis cruise. We are in our mid 60s and want to find a restaurant for dinner the night we arrive. What is in a short walking distance? Also, I don't think the Renaissance offers an airport shuttle. Should we get the Renaissance to make arrangements for one or should we just take a cab? Thanks much for helping us out.

  5. On our past three HAL cruises we have been in a deluxe suite so we've been able to order room service for dinner from the menu for the main dining room. On our upcoming cruise, we are in a superior verandah suite and would like to know if we will still be able to do the same thing.

Also, what do we have to do to have dinner on our balcony? Does it require advance notice so the table can be set, is there a charge for it. I know on another cruise line that there is a charge but the meal comes with a split of champagne, table linens, etc.

  6. Hey neighbor:) , we have a condo in Pawleys Island! We have cruised in the fall & not had a problem. The ships are pretty good at getting out of the way, but you know how fall can be. Be sure to take seasickness tabs just in case.

Hi Jan, I just wanted to say hello. I can't believe you have a condo at Pawleys. My brother-in-law lives there and my sister in Myrtle Beach. Pawleys is such a beautiful beach; I love it there. That's all -- just hello.

  7. Thanks! I know weather is unpredictable...but it just makes me feel better to hear good stories
Hi there, it's nice to see another South Carolinian on this board. Welcome. We have taken three October cruises to the caribbean. I believe it was our first one and we missed two or three ports because of previous hurricane damage. The Captain will not put any passenger or his ship in harm's way. We like to cruise then because the prices are lower. If there's a problem with a storm, they will sail away from it. There were times when we didn't even know anything was brewing. Personally, I would go for it. In fact, I am looking at October cruises now and trying to decide where I want to go.

Go and have fun. I wouldn't worry about it.:)

  8. THIS IS TO DIE FOR!!! When we were on the Veendam, we bought several bottles back so we could give a bottle to each of our children. I have a bottle in the fridge now. Oh, and it's wonderful in coffee. I don't remember how much we paid for it, but it is very reasonably priced. You have to get at least one bottle. You won't regret it.

  9. We went through Priceline and got Springhill Suites on Yale Ave. for $79 per night excluding taxes. For our post night, tried a 3* and got Sheraton Seattle for $122 a night excluding taxes. Supposedly they upgraded us from a 3* to 4*. I don't think we did very well on this one because I've seen the Sheraton's rates as low as $189. Oh well!
