  1. Well please report back.

We bought our boots because it was only a little more money than renting them.  Although I already had trekking poles,  I got some new ones that fold into thirds for easy packing.

Although our 15-night Antarctica cruise is not till mid December,  I have already started packing.

  2. Snacks, sandwiches,  pastries, coffee tea, make your espresso beverages available (saw the same machine in the galley tour). Like our personal International Cafe. Access by tapping your Suite Cruise Card.

    Seating, tables, TV, and books.

Concierge works posted hours and will take care of your shorex or purser desl needs.

Complimentary same day laundry,  out by 9am, returned that evening.  Be sure to check the "presto" box on the laundry slip.

Breakfast in the Crown Grill,  can order anything from the MDR menus for en-suite dining.

    • Thanks 1
  3. We are going to go with with Penthouse Suite, we will have enough days at sea that the suite will make a difference- and The scenery in New Zealand is lovely- and having twice as many windows will be nice (wish the balcony was a little bigger, but we’ll be alright).

Thanks for all your insights. The laundry, breakfast, additional attention and priority embankment/disembarkment are all nice things to have when you’re on a larger ship.

Great choice! Don't forget, it is SAME day complimentary laundry in the suites, out by 9 am and returned that evening. Be sure to check the Presto box.

Complimentary specialty dining on Embarkation evening. Call the DINE line to make reservations, you can even split up if you want. Hubby went to the Crown Grill and and I went to Harmony.

This ship gives corsages and boutonnieres on the first formal night.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  4. We cruised to Longyearbean on the Pacific Princess last year, hiked on permafrost, went by the Global Seed vault, saw a dog mushing camp.

But perhaps this expedition cruise on Silversea might interest you.

    https://www.silversea.com/destinations/cruises-arctic-greenland/longyearbyen-to-tromso-1916.html

We are sailing on Silversea to Antarctica in December. Will be doing zodiac landings on the continent.

  5. We just returned from a Premium suite on the Majestic. It is at the bow of the ship but is larger than the penthouse suites on the Riviera Deck which are mid-aft but near the VIP lounge. Access to the VIP lounge is via your Suite cruise card.

We have a penthouse suite booked on the Majestic next March. We visited a penthouse suite, and they are definitely smaller than the 4 penthouse suites that we sailed in on the Grand Class ships on the Caribe deck with 9 x 17 balconies.

The suites at the aft have decent size balconies, but can have soot problems. A friend said that their steward had to put a towel near the door so that they would not track soot all over their suite carpet.

The Majestic is a gorgeous ship, but with very narrow balconies. Instead of 2 teak loungers and a table with 4 chairs that you get on the Grand class, there are two chairs and a small table. My hubby had to move the table out of the way because you could not get by with it in the way.

I posted a whole bunch of photos of C102 on a FB Princess Cruise Cabin group.

If you have specific questions, please ask.

USB ports by the bed are nice.

Internet on the Majestic is a lot faster than on the Star, Grand, or Pacific.

  6. That was also our experience on Ponant. There was always something going on, whether it be going ashore, or going on scenic cruising, or talks from the naturalists, and so on. It is a very active cruise, especially if you join in the hikes that are offered.

Yes, already have our muck boots (about the same cost to rent vs buy) and plan to bring my trekking poles.

Already ordered our complimentary parka and shell. They are bright red so we are easily seen on the ice? Lol

  7. While a ship with 200 passengers is better than 600, my suggestion is less than 100 passengers so you have the option of participating in every landing. The ship will go to one place in the morning, everyone can explore and then a different landing in the afternoon.

Once the number of passengers exceeds 100, you limit the number of landings you can participate in and places you go.

Been told that all 200 will go ashore, but in batches off 100 each taking turns who goes first, while the others explore the waters along the landing site.

For us the best compromise between relative comfort on an expedition cruise.

  8. Where did you land?!?

Here is a video of an earlier Silversea Voyage.

    They offer 10-day, 15-day, 16 or 18 days.

Unlike Princess, if you book early you get a discount, the cost of a Veranda Suite (Mini Suite in Princess terms) increased from $18800 to $29000 pp, before they sold out. Airfare to Santiago is extra, but the charter flight from Santiago to Ushuaia is included along with a night in a Santiago Hotel.

  9. By treaty, only ships with 600 or fewer passengers can have shore excursions,

and then only 100 on the continent at any one time. There are also regulations

    on the fuel burned aboard.

On any Princess ship, that would be a *lot* of empty cabins. :')

Although we normally sail on Princess, we are doing this 15-night RT from Ushaiua to Antarctica in December. 200 pax maximum, all inclusive, landings by zodiac.

Anyone want to go with us?

  10. On my next cruise, we have 5 sea days of which at least 2 will be cool out. I plan on doing afternoon tea in my suite at least one of those days and I plan to spend a lot of time on my huge balcony. Maybe even make some friends and have a party!

We have hosted Afternoon Tea in our suites twice now for our CC Rollcall groups. Way too much food.

  11. I was in a penthouse suite, only once, and it was a comp upgrade. I was surprised at the level of service from my steward. I had to ask for everything, several times. There were three of us in the suite, myself, my daughter and her friend. What we received was only for two. Our dining times were not the same, nothing made sense. I called the front desk and asked them if they knew there were three of us in the cabin, not two. Of course we know was the response! Then on formal nights we received two corsages and one boutonniere. I finally gave up. It was the strangest experience and my steward was totally out to lunch, the whole cruise.

I definitely was not expecting, or wanting, a butler, but I thought the stewards would be a grade above.

I wonder if the stewards know who pays full price and who was upgraded, or took an upsell, and if that would factor into the level of service.

The room stewards just have a list with your names on it. Some room stewards are just better than others. The one we had on the Pacific (aft Owners suite) had to be reminded to bring new laundry bags and slips when he took our daily laundry.

The two on the Grand (penthouse suite) and the Majestic (premium suite) were the best we had in 30 cruises. I am still FB friends with the one on the Grand.

  12. We just got back from our 6th Princess suite (this time Premium, PH and Owner's before) on the Majestic Princess and everything was as expected except for the water.

On the Grand, Pacific, and Star, we got 2 mini-bottles of champagne.

On the Majestic, we got 2 glasses.

Room steward changed our sheets daily (he said every 3 days for other cabins) and had our cabin serviced before we returned from breakfast. Laundry turned in everyday before 9am, and returned that evening. He brought the MDR menus everyday too.

I made a comment about our drooping orchid plant so they swapped it out for a fresher one mid cruise.

We got our personalized stationary, the fancy silver pen, our leather wallets, the plate of light and dark chocolates on formal nights, and even rose corsage/boutonniere for the first formal night.

We tried out body pillows, therapeutic pillows, and settled on 6 of their regular over-stuffed queen sized pillows. Left the sleep kit in a drawer, and used the tubes of conditioner from the two gold sacks of stuff. Also had slippers and spa robes.

There were also two blankets and two beach towels in one of the closets.

Too lazy to fill out the nightly canapes card, so I called in a standing order for just 2 (normally 6) Grand Marnier profiteroles every night to be delievered at 7pm.

We traded out our two minibars (elite + suite) for two bottles of wine. Room service would not deliver the two bottles of water until the next day when they brought 22 bottles at once (12-day cruise).

Overall very pleased with the suite perks although I do miss the chocolate covered strawberries.

Should mention that we had DVD players (and library) on the Grand, Star, and Pacific) but Movies on Demand on the Majestic. Hubby watched the new Star Wars movie one night.

We have two more PH suites booked.

  13. We are currently sailing in our 6th suite (Penthouse, Owner's, Premium) on the Majestic Princess (also on the Star, Grand, and Pacific) and we received everything we expected and some extras (corsage/boutonniere for formal night, swapped out our drooping orchid plant for a new one). Sheets changed every day as part of the upgraded turndown service, same day complimentary laundry (out by 9am, returned that evening).

They brought our 2 bottles of water per day all at once (24 bottles)

We had a standing order for just 2 Grand Marnier Profiteroles delivered each night at 7 pm. Got the upgraded chocolates on formal nights.

Perhaps your room steward dropped the ball.

  14. I kept reading these horrible reports. We sent laundry on our last 3 cruises with no problems at all.

Yes' date=' you can send it daily if you wish. Suite laundry comes back in 24 hours. Elite laundry comes back when they get to it. That can be anywhere from 24 hours to as much as 3 days depending on how many Elites are sending laundry.[/quote']

Suite laundry is same day if you check the Presto box and it is out before 9 am.

Returned that evening and has been that way on the Star, Grand x3, Pacific, and right now on the Majestic.

  15. I thought of another one I left off - free laundry with a one day turnaround.

    /quote]

I'm confused. The PDF for suites states: • Complimentary same-day laundryand professional cleaning services

So which is it? One day or same day?

Have sailed in 5 suites on the Grand, Star, and Pacific. Same day laundry on all 3 ships. Out by 9 am, and returned that evening. On the Pacific, the laundry slips were all stamped with "SUITE" in big bold red letters. On the Grand and Star, we wrote "Suite" on the slip and checked the "Presto" same day laundry box.

  16. I would say probably our 18-night Land of the Midnight Sun cruise up the coast of Norway to Murmansk Russia on the Pacific Princess in an Aft Owner's Suite. 900 sq. ft. of luxury.

The port of Longyearbean Svalbard was "practice" for our 15-night Antarctica cruise aboard the Silversea Cloud Luxury Expedition ship in December. Anyone want to go with us?

  17. We are sailing on her in September to the South Pacific and March 2019 to New Zealand .

Does anyone know where Club Class Dining is? Looked at the deck plans and didn't see it labeled. We will be in suites on the Caribe and Riviera decks.

Looking forwards to sailing on a new ship for a change. Princess sends the Grand out of San Francisco.
