Winnie, I can't tell you much about the land portion of Alaska. Our cruise last summer was round trip from Vancouver. But you are going to LOVE Alaska. The scenery is absolutely breath taking. I hope you are doing a whale watch of some kind. There are no words to describe the feeling of seeing an enormous humpback coming out of the water and then his tail as he dives back under. Simply incredible! Make sure you go to one of the glaciers if you can. Another amazing experience in and of itself. I'm sure whatever you do, you will have a fantastic time. Can't wait to hear about it when you get back!! (My brother and sister in law live in Tulsa!)

    :)

Blondy, don't know how I missed your post, but I was not ignoring you!

I've been on whale watching trips from San Francisco and Bar Harbor, Maine. These animal are fantastic! I go on the whale watching tours where and when I can. Connie gets to pick one big trip (glaciers for her) and I get to pick one (train trip (White Pass Scenic Railway) for me! We LOVE to travel. Go Tulsa Golden Hurricanes!

  2. Hey y'all,

Thanks for the pearls of wisdom. You have given me a lot more ammunition for my plan. I used to travel by air and car a lot before I retired, as a matter of fact arranging travel was part of my job.:D All the new air travel rules are mind boggling.

As I am the planner, Connie's job is tell me how much $$$ we have to spend. She just says "you figure out where we can go and what we can do when we get there." Funny, we always end up close to water!

After THE cruise, we are headed to the great lakes area, hmm.... wonder if there are any "boat rides" up that way?

  3. Hi y'all

Since this will be our first experience with the cruise world, I was wondering if anyone has any pearls of wisdom for either the land or sea portion of the trip. Heck, even pearls about the flying part would be appreciated since neither of us has flown since, well, I can't even remember the last time I flew anywhere. We will be doing the land portion first, flying into Fairbanks from Tulsa, OK (looooooong day!). The sea portion will be south bound. We have a balcony cabin on the correct (lee? port?) side.

  4. I didn't realize this was an unusual way of thinking. I know I have heard about it elsewhere. I'm sorry for any trouble I may have caused or if I insulted anybody. I'm 26, but I am hurt that somebody would blame my opinions on my age -and even more so that my future posts will be taken with a grain of salt because of it - so I guess I will drop out of this thread so I'm not misunderstood in the future. :(

    Etoile,

No need to drop out of this thread. People, being people, are misunderstood everyday. It is a very real part of life.

    norac,

Everyone is entitled to their own opinon, please no personal attacks.

  5. Has anyone had any problems with snide comments or passenger outright anti-gayness on the Regent, Seaborn, Silversea, etc.??

    Thanks!

What is one supposed to do when you meet such a person on board? You can't run and hide. I usually give them the evil eye, then ignore them.

  6. RV Mamas, I will be on the Jewel (sister ship of Radiance) on April 15th. We have cabin 7676, (our first aft, whoohooo). I will check out 7168 while I'm onboard and let you know. Think whoever is staying in it will mind if I knock on the door??

Let me know how the aft cabins stack up against what you've stayed in before. The occupants of 7168 will probably tell you take a swim, so maybe you better not! :D

We love the "go where ya wanna go, go when ya wanna go" lifestyle. The RV is currently parked in Destin, FL. We begin our 3d year of full time "land cruising" next month.

We begin the land tour part of the cruise on the 19th of May, and sail on the 25th.

Would love to cruise with everyone, it mainly depends on where the departure point is. We alternate between the east and west coast each year, so a cross country trip to the port of embarkation would be rough.

  8. Hi y'all,

Never having been on a cruise, we decided to go whole hog and booked a balcony cabin on the Radiance of the Seas. Not knowing if this is just the first in many cruises, or the last one, we figured why not be comfortable when in the cabin? We are on deck 7 at the back of the ship. Anyone have experience with cabin 7168?

  9. I think a 2009 cruise with all the diversity we would have is a fantastic idea! I'm sure that every couple will find other couples that will become land as well as cruising friends. I wouild like to find other lesbian couples to travel by RV with as well as cruise with.

    Etoile,

Have fun in Las Vegas! It's not a cruise, but enjoy it anyway. Do you enjoy gambling?

Bonnie and I like the casino's on board the ships, but we've also done Vegas. She likes blackjack, but I like the slots. I know the odds aren't good..but the potential is great and I think they're really fun.

    Any other gamblers out there?

I love sea days so I can spend more time in the Casino. I usually enter the slot tournaments and Bonnie enters the Blackjack tournaments. So far, neither of us has won...but we've each made it to finals once and gotten T-Shirts!

Connie and I have been to Reno, Vegas, and Tunica for gambling. We both love the slots! I like Reno the best, it's more like the old Las Vegas.:D
