  1. Thanks.  Sorry to be so dense. I had read that before but for some reason, reading directions prepared by others has gotten me confused.( I am traveling with a group of folks and I am the one providing all the info to them on testing , etc. and am trying to be prepared to answer questions.) I have to say, between what the cruise lines require, what Canada requires, and what the US requires, it is amazing that anyone  can manage to not get tripped up somehow!

  2. I am sailing out of Seward and will end the cruise in Vancouver so I will need to submit my ArriveCAN info before I get on the ship in Seward. I understand that. I am having trouble with the 72 hour requirement.  We sail out of Seward at 8:00 p.m. but we will be boarding five hours earlier around 3:00 p.m..  Do I calculate the 72 using the projected sailing time (8:00 p.m.) or the projected time of getting on the ship (3:00 p.m.)?  It might make a difference for us given our pre-cruise travel (which will not be in Canada).

  3. How exactly will this work if you test positive while on board and the  pre May 17 policy is no longer in place? If the ship docks while you have been quarantined by the ship, will they just open your cabin door and ask you to disembark? Not saying they should or they shouldn’t. Just wanting to to know,  (not a question of insurance per se because I do have trip insurance. Just wondering about the process.)

  4. Can anyone point me to the policy (or to a post on CC)  regarding what celebrity will or will not do for you if you test positive while on board and you sail after May 17? The policy posted on Celebrity website details what C will do for you if you test positive AND you sail by May 17 but no mention of what happens after that.  I realize they may quarantine you on board for remainder of the cruise, but in terms of the other stuff mentioned in the pre-May 17 policy (offering a place to stay on board if you need to quarantine post-cruise, helping with getting you home, etc.) what can we expect?

  5. Taking the proctored tests with you seems like a great idea.  I just worry about internet access/strength on the day before when we are cruising the inside passage and when other people are also trying to accessing the internet. I was hoping that Celebrity would offer testing on board. Or else offer rapid testing at the dock when we arrive in Vancouver.  I really don’t care about whether I have to pay for it or not (not that I am cavalier about money I just don’t want to get stuck in Vancouver and be unable to get home) I just want to get it done!

  6. I am sailing on June 3 out of Seward and will be disembarking in Vancouver and flying back to the US. I know that Canada does not require A test upon disembarkation. (I realize that there is a requirement before you get on the ship originally.) But the US does require one in order to fly. The following is what I found on the celebrity website where are they specifically address testing for our return home:

    Re-Entry (to home country)

Please check your country's re-entry requirements for specific testing information. We will provide eMED Test Kits for purchase for all U.S. guests at debark to satisfy the U.S. re-entry test. eMED Test Kits have telehealth capabilities in order to leverage a quick and convenient home travel test. Any other nationalities, please check your country's re-entry requirements for specific testing information.

It sounds as though they are going to give you your test kit as you leave the ship. When (and where) are you supposed to take the test if you don’t get the test kit until you are leaving the ship and are taking a taxi to airport?  I have to have a negative test result to check in at the airport so I cannot figure out logistically how to use test kit between port and airport.

I realize no one has done an Alaskan cruise yet, but perhaps this is the procedure on other sailings. So if anybody has any insight I’d appreciate it.

  7. There are different railroad trips.  The White Pass Summit trip is on for 2022.  All the other trips that the white pass railroad company usually offers have been postponed  until 2023 (except for two “hikers service” routes). It may be that they changed the route for the summit trip to avoid going into Canada.  But at any rate , they say the summit trip is still being offered. Check it out at WYPR.com/excursions/

I am pretty sure this is the latest info because for a long time when you went to the website they kept saying to check back, they were still working on trying to make 2022 happen.  And it looks like they did for the Summit trip.

  8. I have a cruise coming up on celebrity going from Seward Alaska to Vancouver. When Canada announced its new rules this last Monday about testing prior to entry I was hoping that celebrity would respond to the new Canadian requirements. For example, celebrity’s pre-cruise testing procedure in terms of timing is different from Canada‘s. Whose timing rules control?

Next, I would like to hear how Celebrity is going to handle the testing requirements for disembarking in Vancouver. Are they going to test us all on board before we dock (the test has to be done at the very least the day before we dock so no dock-side testing.)Or are they just going to change disembarkation port?  This is a pretty crucial piece of info.  I have not found an answer to either question on Celebrity website. Has anyone here heard anything?

  9. OK. Let me clarify.  I was not panicked, hysterical, or frightened. I was “unnerved” because I am not used to suddenly seeing a fast and loud military jet fly right past me at almost eye-level.  However, I have since gotten my nerve back, so no harm no foul.

When I said “buzzed” I was speaking as a non-military person who was trying to convey the observation that the jet was deliberately flying near the ship at a relatively low altitude, not that it was menacing the ship necessarily.

When I said that it flew up into the sky, I was trying to convey the observation that the jet changed direction in a very obvious way right after it went past us, going from flying parallel to the ship’s path to flying horizontally to the ship’s path, (and yes, going up not down, fortunately) thereby adding to my feeling that the jet intended to fly relatively near (but did not buzz) the ship.

Of the crew members I asked, they either did not witness the event or else did not know why the event had taken place.  No announcements mentioned the event.  I had never heard of this happening to other cruise ships, (I did a quick search on CC right after the event, but did not come up with any info.)  I had no idea why a military jet would fly close to a cruise ship.( FYI,  I still don’t know….) I would hope one could understand why I thought the event was worth asking about on here.

Bottom line….it has happened on other ships and is no big deal.

Thank you to all the posters who provided helpful info, particularly dirty dawg whose video looks a lot like what I saw.

  10.  Just got off the summit from a five day cruise. On the first day that was a sea day as we sailed from Nassau to Cozumel about 10 o’clock in the morning what appeared to be a military jet came up along side the ship. It was very loud and very startling (coming up out of nowhere next to the ship and moving fast) and everybody who was on deck including crew stopped and stared. I was totally unnerved.  The jet then peeled off and went up in to the sky. We never heard what this was about even after asking around the ship about it. Has anyone heard about this incident?

  11. I could not agree more with Syesmar. Just a little info from HAL would be helpful.  So many of us are sitting at home, getting ready for a cruise, but wondering if we should go, or even more importantly if we go, are circumstances such that we will be stranded somewhere in Alaska or sent back to port on day three. I realize that HAL cannot predict the future, but gee whiz.....with absolutely no info we are left with no basis upon which to decide what to do.

  12. We are sailing on the new Amsterdam soon and of course I’m keeping up with the CDC color-coded ratings for the cruise ships. I saw yesterday that the new Amsterdam had been put into the yellow category based upon information the CDC had received on July 30. Has anybody heard exactly what information the CDC is relying upon? Has anybody on board the ship currently heard anything about Covid cases? I saw the post about new facemasks being used by crew members. but I’ve not heard any other information about the current cruise. Thank you for any info share.

  13. I am sailing on the anthem in May. We will be driving to the port and parking in the parking garage there. I have read on the boards that traffic can be horrendous getting into the port. there's a long line of cars waiting to drop off bags so I hear.

what time would you suggest that we arrive in order to minimize the likelihood will be stuck in a long line of traffic? even if we can't get on board the ship yet that would be ok....we would like to avoid sitting in traffic. (or can we avoid lines by proceeding directly to garage and then hauling our bags over to the terminal for drop off? Or is there potentially a long line for that too?)

Thanks for any info you can send my way!
