  1. Just saw the Dawn pulling back into Boston from my kitchen window. Did you guys have to turn around due to the Hurricane Florence? Hopefully they can at least substitute out a New England port so you don't have to leave the ship early. Good luck and hopefully everyone is still enjoying themselves :)

Boston ship tracker says it's the Gem. Is Boston a port stop for them due to an itinerary change?

  2. I know the Jewel class ships have some accessible Penthouse suites. Perhaps the Dawn does as well, they would have a "no climbing" shower.

As best I can tell, there aren't any accessible Penthouse Suites on Dawn. I'm be bidding on a suite & I don't want to bid on a Penthouse & then have to worry about one of us falling for 2 weeks.

  3. I did call and was told we qualified. With 5 cabins. But was told that many of our perks were not available with group pricing. For instance, 5 of the 6 cabins are families of 4 and we got passengers 3 n 4 free. I thought I was clear in my original post but maybe not. We paid $3700 for 4 in a balcony and that includes the gratuities for the beverage package. To convince my group to switch I would have to convince them of a significant cost savings. Hence my original question. How much cheaper is it?

Wow! I would have expected them to be able to actually help. You know, give you information that would, at the very least, give you what you need to do the math & figure out what you want to know.

How long ago did you book the cabins? Are you within the 30 (I think) day window to transfer the bookings to a TA? Or is it before final payment so you could cancel & re-book with a TA? (if prices haven't gone up of course) I'm sure a TA could give you the information you're looking for if you gave them the bookings.

  4. They were having extra meetings involving the daily schedule and staffing changes that would be required. They are always working hard that last day to prep for the change over in passengers.

If you think about it, no longer were they going to be sitting in one port for 2 and a half days. A few things that come to mind are staffing schedules related to shop promos, daily activities onboard, and dining staff changes. While in Bermuda all shops are closed and casinos are closed all day opening at 9pm. More people were dining ashore. The staff has a chance at a few hours to visit the island.

Yes, with the itinerary change, activities & staffing requirements will certainly need to be adjusted. But, in my world, passengers wouldn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Day 1 should be the same & the other changes necessary should be easy to implement. Department Managers should already have everything in place to make the transition seamless to passengers & as easy as possible for the crew to implement.

An itinerary change is not unexpected during hurricane season. Every ship should have a recovery plan in place.

  5. We have an upcoming B2B that begins Venice-to-Rome, and then the 2nd leg is Rome-TA-to-Miami. Are you saying we won't necessarily HAVE to disembark in Civitavecchia? (I anticipate we will, just to walk around the town, but we aren't planning on going in to Rome because we will have visited there on our land trip before boarding the first leg in Venice)

Generally, B2B guests are directed to gather in a lounge to meet a crew member who will lead them off the ship. Those who choose to, wait in the terminal with the crew member & when the ship is cleared, they can return to the ship.

  6. Please stop fighting children.....

5 Cabins & 10 passengers qualify for benefits BUT

    Things To Note:

    • Group space is limited. Contact us today for pricing and availability.
    • Group cruise discounts and amenities are not available on some sailings.
    • Amenity options shown apply for group space held after June 15, 2018. When booking through a travel professional please confirm with them which amenities your group will receive.
    • Daily promotions and Sail Away rates are not combinable.
    • 7 cabins are required to constitute as a group.

OP, you got your answer. Why not call & see what can be done with your 5 cabins?

  7. Since you booked both separately, I would visit Guest Services in the first couple of days to be sure you receive information relative to disembark & re-boarding. I believe in most, if not all, ports you are required to exit the ship & once it's cleared, you can re-board as an "In Transit" cruiser.

You may want to re-onboard & enjoy the pool deck while it's nice & quiet.

    Enjoy your cruises!!

  8. We just exited Dawn SF 10228. It was a narrow tub with shower in tub. It was identical to the SFs we have been in on the Jewel class.

Thanks! That's what I thought I was seeing in the videos but wanted to confirm. The tub is too high for us to climb into for our showers. I was hoping it had a separate shower like the other suites.

The SF's & SE's seem to be the only suites with the same bathroom design as the mini suites. I wonder if they were originally designated as mini's & then changed to full suite status when NCL realized they were in demand therefore they could charge higher prices.

  9. I'm trying to find out if the Aft-Facing Penthouse with Large Balcony (SF) & the Penthouse with Large Balcony (SE) on the Dawn have a large shower or just a tub with shower. I have viewed a couple of videos on Youtube & it looks like they only have tubs but before I eliminate them (tub is difficult getting into) from consideration, I want to be sure there isn't a separate shower that I'm not seeing.

    TIA............d

  10. Based on the latest update Florence is hitting the East coast late Thursday or Early Friday. The Escape will be in the Bahamas at least that is the plan. There is no way the ship can get back to NYC on Sunday without putting us through terrible weather. My plan is to board and then when we stop in Florida I will check on Florence. If it's the same or worse I will leave the ship and fly home to Newark. I have zero interest in that dangerous ride back.

You need to rethink your plan. If you were to disembark in Florida, NCL will be assessed a large fine. Cruise ships are not allowed to transport passengers from one US port to another without a stop in a foreign country. NY to Florida doesn't cut it.

  11. We just got off the Dawn yesterday. The crew is amazing and I'm sure they will do everything they can to make your cruise a good one. When we heard that last day that your cruise was being diverted we also got to see how hard they were working to get everything set up for the change in itinerary. I'm sure many of them worked more hours than normal to make those changes.

    Hope you enjoy your cruise!

You've got me really curious. What were they doing differently from the regular change over? What changes need to be made for a trip north instead of south?

  12. You need a passport for entry to Bermuda. Canada and Bermuda have similar entry requirements.

If they were going to be denied entry into Canada, It is also possible they would have trouble with entry into Bermuda as well.

    Similar but not identical.

You don't need a passport to enter Bermuda. Canadians might but US citizens don't.

I know more than one person with DUI's on their (Mass) driving record who have traveled Bermuda and not been denied entry.

  13. I've set up several scooter rentals on cruises for passengers, so wanted to clarify the information here. In most embarkation ports throughout the world there are companies that will rent scooters out for passenger use during a cruise. The scooter is rented through one of these companies, and the fee is paid. The cruise line requires that the scooter be able to fit in the passenger's room, not in the hallway, when the passenger is in the cabin. The passenger must submit a document to the cruise line in advance of the sailing letting them know they will be renting a scooter for the trip, the dimensions, company rented from, etc. The scooter company delivers the scooter to the dock, and collects it at the dock at disembarkation. This service is for closed loop cruises (start and end in same port).

    This information is incomplete.

At the port in Boston, they are not picked up at the dock. They are placed in your cabin & are picked up from your cabin at the end of the cruise. It's important to check since Boston may not be the only port that handles it this way.

  14. To be clear plastic straws or all other plastics for that matter are not the problem, it is proper disposal of these plastics that is the issue. I hope this chart puts into perspective how much removing straws from cruise ships will effect this problem.

It may be insignificant but we have to start somewhere and it's better than doing nothing at all...

  15. When they bring you coffee is it just a cup or can you order a pot?

They bring a pot with cups & the fixings. The card asks the number of people & I always order coffee for 4 because the small pot isn't big enough. We both like a mug size "cup" to start our day! ;p

  16. But how do they know this? Do they pull a background check on everyone at the pier? That would take time. Or do they ask with a questionnaire and based on responses say that one is not admissible? Would people that maybe wanted to cancel and misrepresent facts have to prove they actually had a DUI? Or if they misrepresented facts the other way, do Canadian officials pull a criminal check on everyone enroute? We do background checks at work on all new employees and it takes several days, some small towns files even weeks. Maybe they have access to a better system. I never heard of this law before, but luckily have never had a DUI.

There are websites that can provide criminal information (for a fee) in a matter on minutes. It makes sense that Canada would be able to obtain it at least as quickly.

  17. Not holding hostage but have them sign something that states while in Canada you will not be able to Disembark. If I wasn't admissible to Canada I would still be happy to be on the ship.

Unless signing a waiver about not being allowed to disembark at a port stop is covered in the terms & conditions, why would someone not happy with the change willingly sign something like that?

If I were on today's cruise & turned away at the port because I wasn't allowed in Canada, I would be expecting a full refund. I certainly wouldn't be signing something that said I agreed not to attempt to leave the ship while in Canada.

  18. My niece is (was) checking in on The Dawn a while ago in Boston. She says a LOT of people have been turned away from boarding because they're deemed inadmissible into Canada. I never even thought of that ! What a horrible way to start a vacation !

I wonder if that means they'll be refunded.

Wouldn't that be the frosting on the cake for people who wanted to cancel & get a refund but couldn't? This may get messy...
