Glad you took over with the trip reporting as I am having withdrawal.  I like the smaller portions too.  But I have not seen any scales in the suites.  Is this something in the upper category suites?  I have always thought that if I were to go on a cruise longer than 2 weeks, I would have to bring my own, as I am now working on losing the 5 lbs I gained in 2 weeks.

You can just ask Regent for a scale in your suite. We have done it a few times, and now one is always there when we board.

  2. Don’t know about the dinner, but worth asking Regent. Just remember that it is somewhat of a mass dining experience.

The Grand Voyage event is usually off the ship in some venue, similar to the world cruise events. On the Splendor GV in December, it was scheduled towards the end of the cruise (Rio).

For those who have done the world cruise before, I have a question about restaurant reservations.  I believe you can book three reservations (one each specialty restaurant) per segment.  On the world cruise, is each separate cruise they sell to non-world cruisers a segment (so every 7-18 days or so), or is a segment much longer so there are only a few reservations over the 141 nights?  Also, when do you get to book them if there are separate segments?

Segments tend to be longer, usually at least 18 days or more, never 7. Last year’s WC had seven segments, so we got 21 initial reservations.

We put a deposit down today for a Penthouse A Suite. Have not yet done a World Cruise, but sailed previously on Regent many times.  Anybody here with experience on World Cruises able to tell me the chances of us getting our requested cabin? In other words, how quickly should we expect the Penthouse Suites to fill? Thanks...Steve

What is your status, as you said you have cruised many times? Regent goes by status - first choice to Commodore, then Diamond, Titanium, and so on. Also, previous world cruisers get preferential treatment.

The World Cruise isn't segmented; it's either the 140-day whole shebang, or a shorter (126 days?) where you'd finish in Rome. The Rome-NYC isn't a segment yet. These world cruises tend to sell out (and rather quickly), so there'd be no space for segmented cruises. But that depends on if it sells out. We shall see.

There have always been segments, even if the cruise seems to sell out initially. People drop out all the time.

Many thanks PaulaJK for the information. Has anyone been able to take a taxi from the Venice cruise terminal to Marco Polo. Has anyone arranged for a car service from the, I assume the venice cruise terminal, to the airport?  Looks like a tough question to get answered.

I can’t say for sure since we had a Regent private transfer, but I did not see any taxis lined up. Everybody from our shuttle was on Regent transportation (bus or private car). I would definitely consider a car service (or private water taxi if you want to splurge).

  7. We disembarked in Fusina last October on Navigator. The airport is Venice Marco Polo. After leaving the ship, everyone has to go on a shuttle bus to the cruise terminal to pick up luggage (about 30 minute drive). There is no private transportation allowed into Fusina, so you cannot use a taxi/limousine from there. All transportation has to be arranged from the Venice cruise terminal. If you use a Regent bus, they usually drop you off some distance from the airport terminal (buses are not allowed to stop at the terminals) and you have to make your own way there with your bags. I would suggest private transportation from the cruise terminal and give yourself plenty of time. As mentioned above, Venice airport is busy and overcrowded and no fun.

Wow that’s where I originally was planning on going, which is very convenient next to our hotel. It’s confusing because the port website and google maps say the shuttle is at Largo Della Pace. The YouTube video I watched recently showed it was by the fort, and google maps also says it’s by the fort. Maybe both locations have free shuttles to the terminal.

We walked by Largo Della Pace. There did not appear to be shuttles any more.

  9. We were there last October. The shuttle pick up was at the port side of the Fort (see map).

We were docked about the farthest away from town, but walked all the way to the  Fort. The pedestrian walkway is clearly marked. Nobody tried to stop us.

  10. I have not specifically used shuttles in Japan, but we make use of Regent shuttles extensively all over the world since we don’t like excursions. There is no one size fits all answer since it depends on the distance from port to town. Usually they try to get you into the center of town, but also often to some shopping mall. Shuttles run about every half hour or so unless it is a really long ride, sometimes there is a lunch break. Schedules will be available from Destination Services the night before.

The private shuttles all seem to be about $150-$175 per person.  There is a bus shuttle that is around $30/pp but it only seemed to go to a central bus station in the city center, from which you’d presumably take a taxi (or a pretty good walk with suitcases).

We are not going until next year, so I cannot cite an actual experience, but my understanding is that the bus goes to the central bus station and then you will be transferred to smaller vans that will take you directly to your hotel ( all included in the same price).

It’s rare but we have experienced a few ports that required the use of local tenders instead of the ship’s tenders. My memory is that one of these ports was in French Polynesia.

Santorini is another one. We have also used local tenders at times when the distance to shore was long and the local tenders were faster and/or could hold more people.

  13. I am not familiar with the Indonesian visa process, but I am wondering if it is similar to what Brazil is doing. In that case, to get a visa you have to set up an individual account and then pay for your visa through that account (the same applies to the Australia ETA as well). So Regent would not be able to directly pay for your visa. Instead, after you pay for your visa, Regent will give you refundable OBC in that amount.
