I really, really love these sky suites with bed facing ocean. I like the space in front of the bed and flow of the space around the bed, the phenomenal amount of well planned storage, the vanity area in the bathroom , but especially love the view from the bed and bathroom. X hit the ball out of the park with this one. There are some things that should change , IMO, like the tub enclosure to prevent leakage and lack of nice deck furniture, but this would be the way for us to go if the price drops back down some. Very happy that I have a 3 night on Sat and then a 7 night in Jan to look forward to in an S 1.

i measured the balcony on this midship S1 and  it is about 13,5x5.5 ft for approx 75 sq ft. The balconies are nicely designed and the dividers give more privacy than S Class, I think. Really loved the feel of the balcony.

The beautiful KH rocking chair is great - it is big and can be in the way at times but totally worth it, IMO.

Hope these suites wont stay at 12 grand for 7 nights forever..,..

Agreed!  These are beautiful, especially in the bed-facing-ocean configuration.  Do we know if the TVs in these can pivot out from the wall so you can watch TV in bed?  Thanks!

  2. Thanks for the reply, Danna! LOL I think it would be less complicated if he'd go ahead and decide too!

I'm not so worried about suite availability/inventory. Mostly was concerned about converting the solo booking to double rather than having to cancel it (and thus incur the penalty).

Sounds like it would be okay as long as the availability is there. Thanks for the info!

  3. Apologies if this has been discussed repeatedly… I found some answers in threads from a few years ago but not sure if still relevant.

Planning a trip and happy to go solo in a regular oceanview stateroom, but it's possible I'll have someone come along. However, that someone remains undecided. If he does come along, I would want to switch to a suite (and obviously change booking to double occupancy).

I don't want to wait for the decision. Feel compelled to go on and reserve the solo option so I get the price and location I want, but not sure how this will affect my options if my travelmate decides to join.

Any advice? Will I be able to change my booking to double occupancy and upgrade to suite within 90 days of sailing? Or would I have to cancel my solo booking, accept the penalty, and rebook from scratch?

Any input appreciated. Many thanks for your help!

  4. In this article (published today on the Los Angeles Times website), the author claims that the arrangement of the lifeboats on Koningsdam's promenade – rather than above – is due to maritime regulations adopted in 2015.

"Since 2015 maritime law requires lifeboats to be on the embarkation deck of all new ships, not suspended above it."

Comments? Can someone familiar with SOLAS and other regulatory bodies weigh in?

    Many thanks for any insight.
