  1. It isn't unusual for Seattle to not know all the details. Smoking is allowed in the casino on some ships (with a few nights designated nonsmoking). I think Eurodam is the only one that has a smoke-free casino (or maybe there's one other?). So the HAL employee gave the information that applies to most ships and, as you said, didn't know that Eurodam is the exception.

Oosterdam's casino allowed smoking on some nights in Feb. I wonder if that will change after her drydock/refurb?

From what has been reported the Noordam casino is smoke free as well.

  2. Curious what kind of phone you are using please? Android, Apple, Windows? Ask as mine looks different and prefer the iPad. But no question on tapatalk CC is different. No titles can be seen and I find the same on phone.

    Thanks for sharing.

I have a Samsung android phone. I have no idea why it would look so different on each of your devises. My phone is fairly new and I've taken it to my provider when I've had issues and they have been just excellent in helping with issues. Maybe that could help you as well. Either that or Lizzie could help you as well. I think she posted that she has no issues and I know that you correspond with each other. Good luck. I hope you get it straightened out!

  3. Let me pose a question to you....if you owned a business and you had excess merchandise to sell and you were going to place the excess merchandise on sale would you ONLY offer this sale to those who frequented your business or would you open this up to everyone to maximize your profit?? What if those that frequented your bushiness did not want what your were offering and you were on a time restraint to liquidate?

First off I do not always believe what other cruisers tell me, unfortunately many like to brag ;) second not everyone qualifies for the same offers.

Yes, that only makes good business sense.

  4. This is the exact reason why I asked the question, I fully understand that

People have choices. My choice is to cruise on a ship that doesn't allow smoking

Anywhere inside the ship, hence why I choose Celebrity.

However if HAL was in the process of making the Casino Smoke Free after

Refurbs, then I would be interested.

I also contacted HAL Head Office and they quoted that players can smoke in the casino.

The reason I asked the question is if HAL is anything like Celebrity then Head Office is the last to know of any changes. It would be great if Corporate came out and clarified the situation.

Having asked for similar info on the Celebrity Board it seems that lots

of loyal Celebrity Cruisers would try HAL.

    THANKS

Seattle often gives incorrect information even when it makes no sense. Trust what you have read here.

  5. We're taking the 7- day Viking in July 2016, family Oceanview with family retreat cabana. I like the idea of having outdoor space and somewhere to meet up with our 14-yr old twins without having to go to our room on the the main deck, even though only 2 sea days and unpredictable weather. I hope we can agree to stay on board the 3rd port and enjoy the ship to ourselves and relax. I will report back on how it all worked out.

You will love that family cabana. Have a great time!

  6. It's really not about the cost of the cabin. It's about the on board spending.

A solo paying 200% could get the benefits of two if, on average, they spend for two on board.

That's HAL's business model it's all about yield. They would rather have two in a cabin than solos therefore not much, if any, incentives for solos.

Some cruise lines have solo cabins but the footprint is not 50% of a cabin for two due to the washroom.

It's tough going solo. On the plus side you can get some great deals to reduce the costs as you would most likely be more flexible on sail dates.

Lots of generalizations here. I spend quite a lot on board. I've seen couples that spend next to nothing. I met one couple last year and he said I must be "rich" because I was buying Hal's wine. You can believe my on board spending was much higher than that couple. Allowing singles on the ship with two bottles would cost Hal nothing more than letting a couple on with two bottles.

  7. She said not to cancel the cruise now because I'd lose the insurance, but that when I book something onboard the insurance would transfer. I think it was totally stupid of her to have me pay for it ahead of time, so very far ahead of time. Final payment isn't even due until the middle of July. And it's highly doubtful that I'm going to book anything that requires $549 worth of insurance. Why in the world would anyone buy it that far ahead of time? booked last December for a cruise that doesn't begin until October.

Your ta should cover that error. That said when I used a ta I would get their insurance when I booked, NOT Hal's insurance. I did cancel a cruise from time to time and I was able to transfer the insurance. I'm under the impression that you can't do that with Hal's insurance but I'm not 100 % sure.

  8. No reason to think mine is any different than everyone else's. ;)

    Does yours?

Here is the opening of the Invitation:

This Dedication seems to be very different from those HAL has done for all the recent HAL ships since Statendam and forward.

Thx for posting that sail. I'm not invited :D;).

  9. The comparison was to the Nieuw Amsterdam, not the Noordam.

If there was a special elevator to the Retreat area on the Nieuw Amsterdam, I did not find it. There were no signs directing the disabled to it, and it was not on the little map given to passengers on boarding.

Yes, I understand this is about the NA. I was speaking of the Noordam for anyone that might be interested. I'm sorry that I didn't make that crystal clear. It is for information purposes only. Nowhere in my post did I say the NA had the elevator . It may not be of interest to you but it may be to others.

  10. In what way? If I recall correctly the Retreat/Cabana Club area it's just a walk out from the elevator lobby and you go around a corner. The lido cabanas you can just pass as you walk through the pool area.

Obviously I don't get around in a wheelchair so I don't think of things like that necessarily, but I can't think of anything that would really prevent that. Not saying there isn't... but curious what it might have been

I agree. On two of my cruises there were people on scooters in the retreat cabana area. On the Noordam they have an elevator specifically to go up to the retreat cabanas.

  11. I would never wait on my PCC or TA to find the deal for me, I always call them if I see something interesting. They just have too many people to cover every sale deal that comes along.

I'm the same way. When I used a ta I never expected them to do it for me. I take that responsibility for myself as its not difficult.

  12. I too could each Sushi or Sashimi 24/7, just add in some Edamame and a bit of Nigori Sake and I am one happy girl :D

My DH does not each Sushi at all, but he happily watches while he enjoys drinking a Kirin or Sapporo :D

As for reporting back, MOST definitely. Startisng two weeks from today when we fly to Rome I will start my "Live From the Koningsdam" I plan to do several updates daily with lots of pictures:) I have already placed my International Plan on my Verizon Wireless and have quite a bit of data i can use. So should be good to go, hoping that HAL for the Koningsdam will offer an Unlimited WiFi Plan because I plan to purchase that as well. I will be posting lots of pictures with my reports.

I can hardly wait to read your live from thread. You put a lot of work into keeping it up to date. Unfortunately I'm going to miss a lot since I'll be leaving shortly after you do. I will catch up when I'm back.

  13. IMO it's not really the bag tags that were expensive to make and send, but rather the KnowBeforeYouGo and Excursions brochures, and those silly round tin pins that said Mariner ... and of course the pouch to hold it all. Most of it was just a waste of money, and I don't mind not getting it over and over.

BTW three years ago we did one segment of a Grand Mediterranean cruise, and they did send us a pouch full of stuff just like old times. When we got to the pier the first thing the agent did is tear off the pre-printed tags that were mailed, and put on new ones. I don't know why, as there wasn't any change of cabins at the pier. :)

    .

I'd forgotten about those round pins. Those were a waste.
