  1. When you have the edit signature window up, click the icon in the upper right-hand corner that looks like A/A to change the editor to text mode. Wherever you want the star symbol, type in the string as given in post #22 starting with IMG. Preview the signature, and if it looks okay, Save signature. :)

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I finally got mine working :).

  2. We are going on HAL trip this summer and I cant get answer in other areas of message board and need some help. Does anyone know if you can take small sound/noise machine in carryon luggage? I know that sounds crazy on this board but cant get answer from airlines.....one employee "thought it was ok" and the other time I called the employee did not know what a sound machine/noise maker was.....any help appreciated......trying to save weight in my checked luggage

I don't see why it would be a problem. While I don't take one on a cruise I use one at home. Can't see why it would be restricted.

  3. I called Ship Services yesterday to book a Cabana and no confirmation was sent. So I called today and was told one would not be sent unless requested. A request was made and one should be arriving shortly.

Yes, you do have to ask for a confirmations for the cabanas. Make sure to take it with you just in case. They had no record of my purchase on my last cruise but luckily I had the paperwork. I've never had a problem before.

  4. O.K., a look at the HAL web site shows Konigsdam is scheduled to do the 10-day Southern Caribbean Seafarer cruise in Nov and Dec. The itinerary is:

0 - Sail from Ft. Lauderdale

    1 - Half Moon Cay

    2 - Grand Turk

    3 - Amber Cove

    4 - At Sea

    5 - Bonaire

    6 - Curacao

    7 - Aruba

    8 - At Sea

    9 - At Sea

    10 - Arrive Ft. Lauderdale

The latest HAL 10-day cruises have 2 Gala nights. Intuitively, I would have said Half Moon Cay and the first sea day out of Aruba.

But ... we just did the Seafarer on Oosterdam (the only difference being Samana instead of Amber Cove) as part of a Collectors' cruise. The two Gala nights were: the at-sea day before Bonaire, and the first sea day after Aruba. Konigsdam of course could do it differently, but FWIW, that is what Oosterdam did last month.

BTW, we really enjoy that itinerary, with all three ABC's. I hope you have a great time!

    Dave

I like it when there is a delay between embarkation and a gala night. It always comes to quick for my taste.

  5. My DB and DSiL had 5122 on the Nieuw A for their first cruise, and enjoyed it. When they had it, before a re-categorization 2 years ago, it was rated as a VE, and I think fairly priced. I feel with the misleading deck plan and highest Verandah rating (V) that people are being lured into cabins which I would place near the bottom of my choices. Maybe if you don't let the others see your larger balcony and unobstructed view they won't know any better! :D

DW and I like to be high up, but for people who are prone to seasickness I think the best verandah cabins are 4133 to 4158. These are 7.5 feet deep!

This thread has been very informative. Thx for your contribution.

  6. The OP was asking what days the Gala Nights would be on.

The number of nights are on the boarding pass but not the dates.

Yes, I understand. I have 2 on a 15 day cruise so there is a remote possibility there there could be one night on a 10. It would be easier to provide a guess on the night (s) after seeing the itinerary.

  7. Everything in the center section (from 5051 to 5140) overlooks lifeboats. I suggest VB 5137 to 5158 where the motion will not be bad, you will not look down on lifeboats, you will have a full 6 ft deep balcony (compared to 4.5 ft in the center section Vs), and it will be cheaper! Good luck! :)

Thx :). That's good info for me too. I'm copying this to my iPad.

  8. We can pick our own rooms, but they are going fast. Did you feel you needed to to be in the middle to avoid sea sickness? I've heard it really doesn't matter which room, but I'm a tad nervous

I think it really is better in the middle but I'm not terribly picky. I've been all over the ship and I think the worst was right at the front. I've also been up on 10 and there was a fair bit of movement and vibration. I don't suffer sea sickness until I get home (mal de debarkment) so I'm not the best person to advise you. That's not to say I enjoy rough seas because I don't.

  9. Oh no! Looking down at a lifeboat doesn't seem like a good view. We are staying with a wedding group on the 5th deck. Would all the rooms on the 5th look down on lifeboats? Is there anywhere to avoid it?

We picked the middle to help with seasickness, but I've heard that the ship is pretty stable on all parts and it doesn't really matter.

I would move to a different part of the ship if I can avoid the lifeboats!

I'm not sure if all the rooms are hanging over the lifeboats on 5. It doesn't look that way on the deck plan but I'm just guessing. That was the first balcony I've ever had on deck 5 and it was assigned to me so I had zero right to complain. I hope poster jtl513 comes by this thread. He's the balcony guru.
