  1. Yes, surprising, considering that we booked our Retreat for 3/23 Euro and read on Roll Call that another pax tried to book one for the week and they were sold out. Perhaps they save a few for daily bookings.

I don't think they would save any. I'm pretty sure HAL would rather have a for sure thing then a maybe.

  2. In this day and age, to travel without a passport is a bad choice IMO

It is not always someone else's fault for the choices we make.

I agree HAL rep gave you poor advice but IMO it was poor choice on your part to elect to leave the U.S., travel voluntarily without a passport. In this day and age, I personally do not think that a good choice.

Just because you think you can do something, it doesn't mean you should.

    Just my opinion....... Sorry.

Agree 100%. I know that OP doesn't want to hear it but it's time to take personal responsibility.

  3. But let's be fair here. It's not the "Canadians" that keeps you from Luggage Diret; it's the final destination. If the OP were to fly to Bellingham, WA, and go by land the rest of the way, then it would be possible.

Yes, that's true but I've never understood why people would do that. That said, I don't have access to a major airport near the border and I'm several hours north of it (driving).

I'm curious, can folks use it to go to the USA from Vancouver?

  4. We have never asked for any extra, but I do know that if you have an open bottle in your ice bucket, they don't mind if you want to take it to your cabin. Just be aware that they are large bottles, not sure if it's 1 litre of larger.

    They would be a litre.

  5. We have reserved a retreat cabana for our upcoming Eurodam cruise in March. My question to those of you who have had them before: will they give you as many bottles of water as you would like each day or is there a limit? ( I' m talking like maybe 4 each day for 2 people.)

I ask this because we usually bring a 12 pack of bottled water on board with us to drink in our cabin and on excursions throughout the week. But, if we could get 1 or 2 bottles extra per day in our cabana, we could just take them back to the cabin and use those instead of lugging a 12 pack onboard the first day.

I want to say no but I'm not 100% sure. I drink water like there is no tomorrow. Many times I went thru the 2 large bottles myself. They never offered to bring more but I never asked either. I'd hate for you to be disappointed.

  6. You are 100% sure this is a good dish? I ate this on a Princess Ship and it was so disgusting that I sent it back. I never send back food... until the first time on that ship. The waiter said nobody liked it.

I also tried this dish (in the Tamarind) and didn't like it. It was too sweet for me. My favorite is the chicken penang curry.

  7. Will the cabanas typically sell out prior to sailing? I'm considering the retreat cabana.

I decided to get one for the second week of my cruise on the N.A. that just debarked on Dec.2. I bugged the front desk repeatedly to be able to get one. Finally on the Saturday before the Sunnday sailing they graced me with one. If possible you might want to book it before you go to avoid a hassle. This is the first time I've had one but it won't be the last. I LOVED it!

  8. Saw a woman on the trip who said she was from Calgary, cruises on H.A. alot.

Saw her in the Tamarind every meal we ate there, could this have been a

    coincidence?

Can you make a pot of this for lunch? I'll be right down. This working for a living bites:D;).

  9. Wondering if anyone has this recipie, after eating it about six times on the N.A. during the last two weeks, we're in withdrawal. Never tasted soup quite so wonderful.

Holy, how could you eat there so much:D;)? I wonder if anyone else ate there that much. Looks like I should have tried that soup.

  10. It isn't rumor. :) HAL has made an official announcement a new ship is under construction at Fincantieri Ship Yards outside Venice, Italy. It will be something like 99,000 ton.

While the announcement did not detail which, if any, HAL ships are for sale, most would agree it likely Statendam is probably available for purchase.

Thx for the info but I had heard. My comment was made over a month ago.

  11. Also, one night in the Pinnacle Grill one of the staff said that rumors were running rampant that HAL was looking to sell the Statendam and that I new one was going to be build in the next 2 years. Who knows it is a rumor.

That's not the first time that rumor has made the rounds. I hope it turns out to be true.

  12. This Statendam has had odd electrical issues for many years. I recall sitting at the pier in Vancouver, BC in 2003 and not being allowed to embark because they had to (in their words) "Reboot" the Statendam. I don't recall ever being on another ship that had to be "rebooted" before or since that time.

For many reasons, it was the first and last cruise we ever took on her.

    Too funny:D.
