What a great thread!
So many things I do from cruise to cruise. !st one was impromptu happy hour in the library before dinner. Three couples ordered cheese and fruit plates from room service, then brought it and a bottle of wine
and relaxed and mingled.
Join me while I join in this wonderful thread.

I read 1 page. Some of you are horrible. Thank you OP for taking the time for doing this for everyone.
Just horrible!

Just prepare yourself that this is spring break and St Pattys day as well. If you know before hand that this is what you will be encountering it helps. If you are expecting a quiet romantic cruise for two, well let's hope not.

Cons: over crowded and watered down drinks.
Pros: none

I was debating about the Cheers program, after reading all the threads about this I am in, and a fan. I love to drink on board and it's not so much about getting my monies worth but trying new drinks. I would never pay 8 to 10 bucks just to try a fru fru drink or martini. But with the Cheers program it affords me the opportunity to do just that. Looking forward to the Alchemy bar and trying new things. If I dont like the drink I ordered, I'll just wait 5 minutes and get something else. Same with my wife, we were always so uptight about spending crazy on board, now we can just relax and drink what and when we feel like it.
LOVE IT!

My wife and daughter like a tux, the smart women on this board like a tux.The guys that dont like them are jealous of those of us that do. So, even if I'm the only one, I'm packing it.
Thanks to you all.

Are you 60+? I understand that more older people wear tux's on Holland cruises.
Have only been on RCCL and Carnival. I am a very young 50. Old enough for AARP but.....................
-
I realize I will probably be the only one. As I thought, women love a guy in a tux.
Thanks to you all for the input.

5 years ago, I was only 1 of 4 guys on the entire ship in a tux. I have a feeling if I do it now, I will be 1 of 1. I like it, so I'll probably do it once again.

I was offered a free Interior, just had to pay taxes and fees. For 2 of us it was about $150.00. Great deal right?
So, I wanted to upgrade to a suite. 4 of us sharing Grand suite with all taxes and fees came out to be about $300.00 each!!!
My wife and 3 friends booked this exact suite a year ago and it was $700.00 each. So in my opinion the Casino offer is pretty darn good.

I'm sailing Triumph on a quickie 4 day in September. It's been a few years since I sailed Carnival. I've always worn a tux on elegant night but I understand that dressing up has become a thing of the past. Just wondering if ANY men are still dressing up on elegant night. Anyone cruised lately that could enlighten me?

OK, i'm playing the outside......1-12 13-24 and 25-36 these bets pay 2/1.
I place bets on 1-12 and 13-24. I now have 2/3 of the numbers covered but my odds are now 1 to 1, because if it hits I lose one bet but get back 2 to 1 on the other. The problem starts if luck is going bad and I am losing at twice the normal clip.
I have used this "strategy" and played for hours. It is a grind and rather boring, but I have walked away happy more times than not.
I prefer faster paced and excitement like craps. This poses a problem when I have been drinking and start playing the numbers and other bets. Once I do this my "strategy" is out the door.

"You can never take down your pass-line bet after a point is established, because the casino has the advantage at that point."
Last two years I have visited Costa Rica and we play at a little casino there. They let you take down your pass line bet!!!!
I don't know if it's OK or the guys working just don't know your not suppose to do this. Needless to say I have never walked away a loser.
I'll put 3 or 4 greens down, if I don't like the point, i pick up, and no one has ever questioned it. We make jokes like, if they let you do this in Vegas the lines would be out the door and each table would hold a 100 people.

huh?
Follow closely................
You can drive around and find beaches all over the island where there are no other people, meaning seclusion. That means you can have the beach to yourself all day. Now obviously, if you visit a resort there will be other people at the beach, and you will NOT be alone. You have choices.
Personally I prefer walking down to a secluded beach, some others like to have all the amenities a resort offers.
Is that better?

Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated!
It's been two years, but my family vacationed there for a week and we loved it. I highly recommend Buck Island if you enjoy snorkling. All the beaches there are public and most are virtually uninhabited, except for the resorts.
I had a rental car and we would just drive around and look for worn spots on the side of the road where you could tell others had parked, pull over and enjoy the beach. My DD and I would snorkle right from the beach, any beach! It was awesome. Driving is on the left hand side but it is VERY easy and very little traffic. If you wanna get away and explore without tons of tourists, then rent a car.
If not, the resorts are nice and have all the amenities. Buck Island is really great, if you have seen the Shawshank Redemption, the last scene when they were on the beach.....that is Buck Island. It's a National Park and the snorkleing is phenomenal. There is a sting ray that hangs around and swims with the group around the beach too. Great pics!!
Make sure to buy Cruzan rum, you can get it in any store and it's dirt cheap and very tasty. You can also visit the most easterly point in the United States, it's up on a mountain with INCREDIBLE views. I could go on and on, you will have a blast.
Did that sound like a rep from the St. Croix tourism board?

LOL I think you missed my point - I was being sarcastic toward those who were saying it's disgraceful that some islands might not be the fantasy island fun spots they'd somehow expected them to be ;)
Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with visiting places that are poor, tired, ancient / history laden, run down or whatever - that's the whole idea of a holiday for me, to explore new places, see new things, experience what others experience who actually live there. Be it the good, the bad and / or the ugly.
Progresso - from my research, falls into the "possibly not that flash" category, where the people will most likely be lovely should we be able to get away from the port / tourist areas and I'm very interested in seeing it.
As for hell holes near me .. of course, but I've seen Australia already so want to go farther afield ;)
Sory I missed your sarcasm, that is a rarity for me. I too like the different "rough around the edges" places. Quite frankly I avoid the tourist places like the plague.
That was a nice shot at the Aussies.

Why travel half way around the world already expecting to visit a hell hole? There are other hell holes closer to you aren't there?

As a rule, the first one back to the cabin in the evening must order room service for the rest of the people. It used to be the roast beef sandwich, as I understand it those are no more. So, something else to curb the early morning munchies.
