  1. Jeff, If you are communicating with Mark, remind him of the settlement that was reached when he was at RSSC after the cruise from hell.

It was a Sydney to Singapore cruise which lost a day to a typhoon, another to the death in Darwin of one of the Jean Ryan performers due to a fall, and the missing of several ports because of these events. Imo nothing that happened was RSSC's fault and I would have chalked it up to "rub of the green". (I'm a golfer).

I won't publicize the settlement but it was SUBSTANTIALLY more than SS first offer. I am sure Mark will remember all the details.

  2. UKJ, It's easy if that's what you enjoy. The women are much more fun because they work points out and don't rely on brute force.

    Same as on the links.

Btw I hope you are making progress with Mark Conroy. That's where I would have gone immediately and privately. Imo the best exec in the cruise industry.

  3. Terry, You are fortunate in that the specialty restaurants are at least represented on the GDR menu. While the regular menu is terrific, these opportunities kick it up a notch.

One of the experiences we particularly enjoyed was the string quartet that plays each night in the great hall. We had lovely Russian ladies who played expertly.

I know you have been a SS loyalist and they were our first two cruises , but, we now enjoy O even more because of better food and a more casual atmosphere.

    Enjoy!

  4. twofortennis, While I sympathize with you I don't understand what you expected O to do in the face of bad weather. We took the exact same cruise in 2015 and absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, the service outstanding and we made all our ports. But! We did not get off the ship in Maputo as it was rumored to be unsafe--turned out it was as two separate couples were threatened.

As the poster from SA said it is the Cape of Storms. We had a similar experience on SS during a Valpairaso-Buenas Aires trip. The weather was so bad that we went from Puerto Arenas directly to the Straits of Magellan missing Ushuia and Cape Horn completely. Why complain, however, when it is safety that determines decisions.

If you settle down from your frustration and evaluate what O delivered I don't think you will be as upset.

  5. C, You might want to consider booking an evening at the Hermitage on your own. The ballet or concert is in the private theater of Catherine the Great. Seats are on a first come first serve basis. I was able to sit in Catherine's seat for the first act and my wife for the second. We saw Giselle and it was terrific although not at the level of the Mariensky.

I would caution you on the Museum. It was very crowded and hot-no ac- the day we went. I am not sure a perch is always going to be available for your partner.

    We enjoyed the music more.

  6. While I have not been on Navigator, I am a Regent fan. That said our favorite ship is Silver Whisper. We sailed through a hurricane in SA, 120 mph winds, 20' seas with no problem. Disclosure, we love that sort of stuff. Were on Voyager during an Aussie typhoon, although Whisper is smaller, performance was about the same.

  7. Grey Eagle02, My comment is that nothing is perfect and maybe your complaints are justified, but all of them with the exception of the sandwich can easily be rectified by simply reminding (olives), or speaking to attendant or HD, (room service).

On every cruise we take be it Regent, SS or O, we always have a sit down with our attendant and let them know we are early people, both morning and night. We also let them know we want tonic water and lime in our frig. If it doesn't happen we remind them once. We have never had a problem after the reminder.

  8. Dolebludger, I don't think you are going to get much sympathy on this one. The key to me is that you could have cancelled and received your trip insurance. Your DW wanted to go, however, and you expect Regent to change things because of an unexpected problem. That is what the insurance was for; not an upgrade if you wish to continue. I am not a lawyer, but I am not sure that you even have a case under the ADA since you had a remedy AND your request for relief was imo not medically prescribed. You posted it was your concern, not the MD's.

  9. Shots, Our first cruise was also on the Wind many years ago to the Norwegian fjords. We were hooked forever. Please do not give up on SS excursions. In addition to the wonderful ones in Northern Europe we loved almost all on our Valparaiso to BA South American cruise on Whisper.

We will be back on Whisper NY/MTR in Oct. and are excited.

It is interesting, many posters complain about cruise line excursions. Our experience has been different. We sail SS & Regent with an occasional Oceania; in general rarely disappointed. You may spend more money than a shared private tour but we can't say the quality of either is markedly different.
