  1. We are on the Serenade of the seas on 26 April. We live in Port Charlotte, just a few miles from you. We have decided to rent a car and drive to Ft Lauderdale the day before and return car next day, Budget rental is close to port, and am told have transport to port for free. We are flying back to Ft Myers on Eurowings on 14 May, for $1100 for two people, with bags and meals and seat selection. We checked into parking, etc and found this the cheapest and best way for us. Good luck on your choice. Would like to see you on Serenade.

  2. Although I see the Ephesus are on several itineraries for this year and next year, are the RCL ships stopping there now? I know for a while the Turkey stops were banned due to safety concerns.

We were on cruise last year, had overnight in Istanbul, but was cancelled. We went to Ephesus as it it qute aways from any turmoil. The did cancel the thtrr days in Israel though. Took us to Greek Islands instead. They were worth the inconvience. Was disappointed in not seeing Israel, but now we are looking into land tour. Ephuesus is well worth the visit, and the tour guide was great. A lot of ancient history.

  3. My wife and I will be cruising on Celebrity’s Summit soon and I have an unusual question about the cell phone coverage on the ship.

We both have smart phones, but like most people these days, we get an insane amount of text messages. So having either of these phones turned on while on the ship will more than likely incur a lot of unnecessary charges. Since we want our children to be able to contact us if they have an emergency, and to check in once a day via text message, we were considering activating an old flip-phone with a new number only they will have. This will allow us to communicate directly with them and not incur any unnecessary charges. I called Verizon about this and they stated the cruise industry no longer supports older CDMA cell phones on their satellite cellular service and because of that our old flip-phone won’t work while at sea. I asked the Verizon Rep for more information about this, but she wasn’t able to point me to any outside information stating this. She only said that it was a recent technology change. I then called Celebrity, but the Rep wasn’t able to find anything specific about older CDMA / non-smart cellphones.

So, to sum it up, does anyone know for a fact that older CDMA phones won’t work while at sea due to a recent technology change? Or, has anyone successfully used an older CDMA non-smart phone at sea recently?

Any and all help will be most appreciated.

Verizon has an international plan for cruise and overseas. It costs $40. for a month If you go to their web site it explanes it further. We are getting this for our 23 Oct cruise on Constellation.

  4. I believe sodas are $4 each on board. Prices rise periodically, and I think the last price increase was back in late February/early March. They were definitely $3 per can in February (on Constellation), but there was talk on this board about the price increases shortly thereafter.

The soda package was a no-brainer for me: $9/day pays for itself after the third soda. They serve Coca Cola products. I paid out of pocket for the few cocktails and glasses of wine I had and still came in way under the classic drink package price. But, that is an individual calculation you’ll have to do.

I would guess that bottled water is in the same price range. You can get non-bottled water for free. Someone also once suggested bringing on a case or two of water (or soda, for that matter). Put luggage tags on them at the pier, and they’ll be delivered to your room.

soda package is now $18 a day pp That's a lot of coke to drink.lol

  5. My wife and I are not drinkers, so we were wondering if any one could tell us the individual prices of bottled water and Coke products. We are looking at the classic drink package. but it seems awful expensive at $18 a day pp. Any info would be greatly appreciated. 23 Oct 2015 sailing.

  6. I am looking for suggestions for a safe off site parking in Miami for Sept. 11 th cruise.

I really prefer not to pay $20 a day to park my car at the port. There are a few advertised parking lots for 5.99 to 6.99 a day but they are really close to Overtown.

Does any one have any experience with off /port site parking in Miami?

Fly in day early and stay at hotel with free parking.

  7. I can get to the site, but when I tried to sign up, I kept getting an error message. I thought I was finally able to register but never received confirmation. Now when I try to register, I get a message that I'm entering the wrong last name. Since there have been only about 14 people registered for the last couple of months, wondered if others having the same problem.

we had same problem, kepttrying and finally got thru. it took about ten tries but finally gotconfirmation.keep trying andgood luck.
