WLB is our favorite beach on BDM, we enjoy staying across the street and walking there. There has been a food truck there for several years but limited amenities have kept the crowds at bay. I love laying on the pink sand and watching the Longtails dart among the cliffs searching for food. Jobson's Cove is also right there, a pretty little cove with very calm water. The walk to WLB from the road is shorter but steeper.
Marie, my question to you would be why do you need to go to HSB when you have beautiful WLB? Just a gorgeous, long beach with beautiful views and much less crowded.
Good question! I guess I was thinking, seeing the beaches in between might be nice and, eventually, one of us might need to use a restroom! Porta Potty - not very appealing. LOL! Thanks for the info!

Taking the path from Horseshoe is good, but be prepared for no amenities. And watch out for Bermuda ants on the sand. The beaches that connect from Horsehoe are Amazingingly beautiful if you are willing to walk. We rented chairs at horseshoe and packed them to our site..
Enjoy
So, would it be better to start at Warwick and walk to Horseshoe? That way, I will end in a place that has restrooms and amenities. I am assuming that this path is in the sand but not along the shoreline? If I want to walk from Warwick to Horseshoe, how will I know which direction to walk in?

I have visited Horseshoe Bay several times and, while it is beautiful, would like to avoid the crowds this time and try a new beach. Can anyone who has been to both please provide a comparison between the two.
Also, is it as easily accessible by bus as Horseshoe Bay? And, I have heard there is a path that connects several beaches. Where exactly is this and how long would it take to walk from Warwick to Horseshoe?
Thanks.

Last time I was in Old San Juan, a friend took me to a store that sold only merchandise that was made in Puerto Rico. I would love to find that store again, but do not remember the name or location. It had art, Christmas ornaments and miscellaneous hand-made items. Is anyone familiar with it?

Grand Case beach is a long, usually calm stretch with beach bars and restaurants to suit everyone. Lots of choices of places to eat right at the beach. Some of the gourmet restaurants offer free chairs and umbrellas if you purchase lunch. There are some small shops and boutiques to browse in on the street that the beach is off of. Plenty of choices and the only place that gets a catamaran in to the best of my knowledge is Calmos Cafe. The view is fantastic if that matters.
Can you take a taxi there from the pier and, if so, is there a particular area that you should ask to be dropped off at? Thanks.
-
If I take a taxi to Grand Case, is there a specific location I should ask to be dropped off at to enjoy some beach time.? Also, will it be difficult to get a return taxi back to the ship?
-
We had to wait about 10-15 minutes at the bus interchange in Marigot which is why it took 40 min to get back.
At no time did we feel unsafe.
But again, make sure you have enough time to return on time, but do not leave Grand Case too early to enjoy it. Just get there early and then leave with enough time to get back and have a little extra time.
We did not leave for Grand Case as early as we could have. The ship arrived at 8am and we did not rush of the ship. So, we could have gotten there much sooner.
Are taxis readily available if I wanted to return by taxi instead?

What type of souvenirs from Puerto Rico are you looking to purchase? I collect Christmas decorations from destinations we have visited. There is a great store in OSJ that sells Puerto Rican masks for the Christmas tree. These are made by an artist from Ponce.
That sounds interesting. Do you remember the name and/or location of this store?

Are there any shops in Old San Juan to get authentic items make in Puerto Rico?

It will be about $10.00 to get a taxi to Cocoa Beach. To go to Cocoa village by cab will about $35.00. I called and asked.
Thanks - did you mean $35 one way? That is pretty expensive!
-
I'd be willing to bet you could rent a car for the day for less than one way taxi . . .
very easy to drive around here ....
I have family on Jersey Shore and this is a piece of cake compared to the Brick / Manasquan area
LOL - I am still not one for driving when away from home! Is the cab more than $20?
-
beach side not really
but you might like 'historic Cocoa Village' instead
lot's of small mom and pop shops and several places to eat
.
I will be visiting Port Canaveral on a cruise next month that is stopping there from 1-11pm. Cocoa Village sends like exactly what I might be interested in. Can you tell me what the approximate cost would be of a taxi there from the port and/or if there is another way to get there. Thanks.

When I looked at the fine print on the current WOW promotion, it says:
"Offer is not combinable with any other offer or promotion, including, but not limited to, Interline, Travel Agent, Travel Agent Friends and Family, Going, Going, Gone Sale, Net Rates, Crown & Anchor Discounts, Shareholder Benefits or Next Cruise offers, promotions, or benefits"
Does this mean that if you transfer the reservation to a TA, you would lose it if the TA also offers you OBC?
-
Thanks Michael ~ are the trolleys ready and waiting or do we need to make reservations? And do you know the cost?
Do you know if the trolleys go to Cocoa Village? I am not really interested in the beach but am interested in just walking around and doing some shopping. Not familiar with the area at all - just read about Cocoa Village - if other shopping is available, would be interested in that as well. Thanks.

I am interested in visiting the Space Center as well but am not comfortable with renting a car away from home. Is it far from the port? Any idea what a taxi would cost?

That was one of the many questions I asked. I am also have unlimited data and wanted to make sure it would not change my plan when I returned. They said it would not. I have enjoyed being untethered from my devices on previous cruises, but for some reason (cruising for the first time without my daughter, leaving my 94 year old dad at home), I feel I would like to have the option to check in on things from time to time. Thanks everyone. Did not realize I was starting a controversial thread!
That counts for us too. Especially hubby. His boss will call him no matter where he is. EXCEPT when we're cruising. :DThe only time we would turn this on would be in case of emergency when we're in port (thankfully that's never happened and pray it never does).
Two questions about this global option though. A-If you are grandfathered in for the unlimited data package, do you still need to do this? And B- If you do need to do this and then 'shut it off'/'revert back, will you will go back to the grandfathered unlimited? Has anything tried this and confirmed it worked?

OK. I am almost ready to add this plan. So true about Verizon reps giving you different information. The one I had just now did not instill confidence - so I am going to wait and call back later.
One interesting thing he told me is that iMessages are included as data. That was the first time I had heard that, which would be wonderful since my daughter has an iPhone and we text all the time. Can anybody with any iPhone confirm that?
Thanks so much for all the great info - particularly about not canceling when I got home - which would have been my first instinct!

They didn't tell me anything about the $60! I thought it was just $25/100MB in addition to what your regular plan is.
I am using it right now and have been for the two weeks on our Brilliance b2b. Work great...no issues. It's 60.00 / month plus 25 / 100 MB.. They do prorate the monthly fee according to hire many days you actually have the services. I used it extensively for a work emails, and even connected to m my computer via the 3g hotspot. The speed on the phone was just fine. ...on the computer, not so much. You do need a global data capable phone (not all are). When you use your first 100mb, Verizon sends you a text to let you know that you will be charged another 25.My total cost for data coverage for 16 days will be about 80.
Again, I basically only used it for email and Google chat with my office, with some limited internet use...no Facebook, surfing, etc.
It's a pretty good deal. And when you're just doing email on your phone, it's WAY faster and cheaper than buying the internet wireless package..especially on an older shop like Brilliance.

Has anybody used Verizon's Global plan for 100MB of data for $25?It appears to be able to provide smartphone access for data (email, web) both at sea and in international ports but I have concerns about incurring unexpected charges. Leaving for trip on EOS next week. Thanks

your cabin is across from the hall from the inside cabin. the elevator is in a room separated from the hall where the cabins are -- so you will walk around to the entrance to that elevator.
Webgal and Serene - thanks for your advice. Sounds like a decent cabin to me.
-
Does anyone have any information about Cabin 8552 on RCCL Explorer of the Seas? It is three cabins away from elevators and when I googled it, I read a review from a deck plan website that indicated there may be mechanical noise from the elevator. It is one of only three balcony cabins available for a sailing I am considering - so I am concerned that there may be a reason why it is still available. Thanks!

Perfect Timing - by Jill Mansell - which I just picked up for $1.99 for Kindle. Perfect light and funny beach/deck chair read.
Speaking of which, what do you experienced Kindle users do to protect your device from sun, sand, gooey sunscreen, etc.?

It wasn't a dumb question at all. Thanks to you we now have some new resources!
Agreed! I should have said that before posting. I am learning about downloading Kindle books but have not yet figured out some basic Kindle functions! I know this is a book thread - not a Kindle one - but I really appreciate all the great info. A good read is a good read - no matter what the format!
-
Thanks! That seemed like a dumb question but I didn't know there was an entire Free section... fantastic!
I am new to Kindle (got mine for Mother's Day) and only paid for one book so far - Janet Evanovich's Smokin' Seventeen (yes - I'm hooked - have read them all).
In addition to Amazon's top 100 free Kindle Downloads which I check everyday, I have found the following resources helpful:
Amazon's Kindle forum: http://www.amazon.com/forum/kindle?_encoding=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0
and ereader IQ - http://www.ereaderiq.com/free/
In addition to finding out about free books on ereaderIQ, if you really, really want a book that is above your budget, you can sign up for a free email alert that will notify you if the price drops.
Happy reading!
