  1. I won't begin to try to address your perception, but I will offer insight into the behavior. They CANNOT give you someone's cabin if there's a chance they'll show up at a subsequent port. Sure, they didn't make departure at the home port, but that doesn't mean they won't show up at a subsequent port.

If I missed my departure because of weather, then when I caught up with the ship, found that ship staff had let someone grab my cabin I had picked months in advance because they were angling for a freebie upgrade, I would be *livid*. Celebrity is obligated to hold onto those cabins because the passenger may make it to a subsequent port, and they have to provide a cabin to them.

Regarding pricing, that's a common complaint anywhere you have perishable inventory (be it a hotel room, a cruise cabin, or an airline seat). The goal of yield management is to extract as much money as possible for the commodity. Bargain hunters fall into one of two categories: Either you book when it opens and then keep an eye on price drops, or you gamble and book last minute.

  2. So the subset of martinis you're talking about' date=' can you order them in the martini bar or is this only in other bars around the ship ?

I only mentioned the smaller portions in the martini bar because other posters saw it happen during their cruise. But it seems that it's not done on every ship of the fleet.[/quote']

I haven't seen smaller, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

The subset was page one in the martini bar menu. I assume you could get them elsewhere, but never tried. They were all "standard" ingredients, as opposed to stuff you can only get at the martini bar. Just like the pool bar has frozen drink makers and the molecular bar has liquid nitrogen, the martini bar has special and unique ingredients. None of the classic package martinis had anything you couldn't get at other bars.

  3. Not asking for a refund, maybe just a little OBC. Also, would I be liable for gratuities for full cruise, or just for the 12 nites remaining.

I can't even imagine missing out on a few moments of my vacation, let alone three nights. I'm glad to hear you're ready to catch up to her!

  4. There's a subset of martinis that are available with the classic package. I believe it was four or five drinks. Things like a classic martini, a vodka martini, a Cosmo, etc. I don't recall seeing anyone being served smaller portions, aside from the six martini sampler flight that is available for $13 purchase. Sometimes if you have an "in", whether because you have tipped well, engaged with a bartender, or whatnot, they will "share" the leftovers from a martini made for another customer and pour it in a small glass for you from the mixing vessel.

  5. I don't recall seeing shorts, but the venue certainly lends itself to khakis and a polo. Will people get away with shorts? In all likelihood, yes. Really though, it has a country club grill vibe to it. Folks should try to stick to the requested dress instead of finagling what they can get away with.

Besides, when most folks eat there, it's evening and the ship is under sail. Without the sun and with the breeze of clipping along at 20 knots, pants are usually a good idea anyway.

  6. We took our son on his first cruise when he was four, and he loved it. As long as your youngest is toilet trained and pullup free, they'll be able to fully participate and will have a blast.

We've taken the kids on Cunard and Celebrity, and while they enjoy both, they truly prefer Celebrity.

  7. I would echo what's been said by others.. If you're worried about people, don't. If you're heavily inked, it's pretty clear you have a self-determined sense of appropriateness, and have no problem with dismissing and discounting anyone who looks down on it. Most people will not care, a few may say something about the cool ink, fewer still will cast a disapproving glance your way. IOW, just like pretty much anywhere else.

The nightlife thing is a sticker situation. By 12:30, most places are closing down for the night. If hours of bustling nightlife are your thing, consider RC. We always do early dining, so by the time midnight rolls around, I'm ready for bed. I suppose if we did late dining, I too would find myself wanting for more. The service really is so much better on Celebrity ships that I would urge you to consider what's important to you and your vacation. As an executive chef, you'll appreciate the food difference between the two lines.

  8. I have no problem bringing my son to the martini bar. It is one of his favorite places on the ship. He would ALWAYS want to stop there on our way from the kids club to the cabin for bed. He loved sitting there, drinking root beer or ginger ale with grenadine, playing with the ice and his ipad. There are adult venues--the casino bar and the dance club--if that's what you want. The martini bar servers have always gone above and beyond in making sure he has enjoyed himself, stocking the normally non-stocked root beer and talking and telling jokes.

  9. I get why they congregate near the pizza but don't understand why they always seem to be near the smoking area:confused::rolleyes::D

Easy. On our last cruise, my son wanted to play ping pong. On the summit, that meant pool deck port side aft, which was also where the smoking area was.

  10. We love cruising with Celebrity, but occasionally we do find ourselves saying “what were they thinking?”, - like having no good before/after dinner dancing spot (like Rendezvous) on the S class ships?

Don't worry. You're not alone in wanting for one. Our first cruise was on the Infinity, and we LOVED the Rendezvous lounge and the music played there, being dedicated dancers. We gave Cunard a whirl, but found Celebrity to be far more to our liking, in spite of giving dancers short shrift. Dancing's fun, but there's so much more than just that to a vacation.

  11. I hate wearing a suit. HATE HATE HATE it!

That being said, when I'm asked by the security officer to put my bathing suit back on while in the hot tub, I politely do so. I tried pointing out that it wasn't in their FAQs that I had to, and that if it wasn't online, I don't need to follow the rules, but they mumbled something about decent conduct.

I don't know why folks complain so much.. I LOVE wearing my tux when I get the opportunity.
