  1. Questions.

How is the bus system in Nassau? We are thinking about taking the bus to BahaMar. My thinking is to try the bus on the way there and return by taxis if the trip is to long or slow? Hopefully, I can tour the resort or buy the day pass. If not, I’ll have to hit the slots with DH!

Would I have time to check out the Fish fry area, too? That is walkable from the cruise ship docks, right, Any thoughts or suggestions about my plan?

  2. 1. Choose your cruise based on dates, embarkment location, ship and ports.

    2. Do a mock booking to find pricing and perks for inside vs balcony. Make a cheat sheet of these numbers to keep handy for the booking call.

    3. Make your booking call. The CAS reps are especially helpful, make sure you let them know this is your first cruise. You will be asked to pay the taxes and fees. The booking have conditions for changes and cancellations make sure you understand those before booking. It might take more than one call for you to feel comfortable with your booking.

    4. For general question, I search the exact question and most of the time. I find the answers. Often directed to the cruise critic boards.

    Happy Cruising! Win big!

  3. I book directly with NCL/CAS and could not be more pleased with their services, promos and comps given for our biyearly cruise. If I was not using CAS, I would research a few local and online travel agent's pricing with personal references. Being imfomed and knowing your options is critical in getting the best deal. After, doing my own research, I would call to get quote and compare. Keeps updated in what you do.

  4. I've never cruised RCI. But, on land based casino's they are more than willing to steal players from other casino's.

We've been Caesars diamond members for number of years. Since the same holding company owns NCL, my wife are both "hot" Casino's @ Sea members. Based on our play, we get ocean view rooms for free, other than port fees and taxes. We upgrade to balcony for a small amount.

Just wandering if RCI wants to try to steal us, hoe we'd find out? We'd be glad to try another line, as long as we don't have to pay full price for a cruise. Otherwise, why would we change?

Urcomped.com is a online host that will help you match current offers with different casinos/cruise lines. The only catch is you must send them a copy of a current offer for matching.

  5. After speaking to CAS, it my understanding the casino only use a player's loss amount to calculate comps not a true theo. I was hoping, I missed understood and was going to clarify during my next cruise.

Could the lower 'Theo' you were quoted actually be a loss statement?

This is a older post, hope it still has some interest.

  6. Thanks for the insight, seems like I am on track with my tipping habits. Normally, I tip $1 for one drink, $3 for two. My husband and I do seem to get allot of drinks starting with coffee in the morning, water/soda in day and drinks in the evening. I was feeling a bit cheap considering the amount of free drinks. I did give my favorite bartender and extra $20 on our last night. My husband says our casino losses are paying for the 'free' drinks. Guess, he might be right this time.

  7. Received an email today that it is Balcony Bonus Week and tried to have the Bonus added to my current booking. No luck. First, the representative had no knowledge of the offer. Then said it was not able to be combined with my current latitude offer and the choose up to 5 free offers. I really, think it should be combinable?

Any suggestions on get getting the extra bonus? Now, I am thinking about calling next week and talking to a different agent?

  8. We booked an IX on the BA with a partial comp from CAS. I placed a minimum upgrade bid of $50 (person) for a OX and BX. About 2 weeks prior to sailing, there was a price dropped and we requested a free up grade to OX. We were offered the free upgrade to OX or a paid $175 (cabin) upgrade to BX. We picked the BX and was assigned a midship cabin on deck 11. Then, we were placed back into the bidding pool but we are very happy with our cabin/price paid and declined.

Just wanted to share our experience. Happy Sailing!

  9. I understand sha2020 wanting a upgrade or OBC. My trip price dropped and I called and requested an upgrade and was given one. It is difficult to see some cruiser's requests being honored and your own be denied.

  10. Interesting read. Thanks to everyone for their hints and viewpoints.

My hobbie is being frugal and I find it exciting. I love the research, comparing prices and thrill of getting what I feel is a good vaule. I never seem to 'save' any money but I do stretch my budget by doing something I enjoy. Of course, I use my hobbie to get rock bottom price on travel including cruising.

    My only suggestions:

    1. Your spending should reflect your personal/family values.

    2. Learn to save and don't live a credit driven life.
