  1. Excuse me, but your homophobia is showing. Would you complain if a hairy heterosexual man was kissing his overweight wife in a bikini or putting suntan lotion on her? I doubt it. Are you asking Princess to tell passengers of all large groups or just ones that don't comport with your personal political and religious views? I have more of a problem with a ship full of judgmental bigots than one filled with LGBT couples. You have no right to impose your views on others and certainly no right to expect the cruise line to do so. Moreover, it would be illegal for them to do so.

But, yet, they certainly have no probably imposing their views on us. BTW, being gay has nothing to do with politics or religion for most people.

  2. I have got to say, we were pleased overall with the food on our cruise last week.

HOWEVER, we did hear some people complain that it wasn't very good.... these were the same people who we watched order "chicken fingers with french fries" as their entree in MDR or order 2 appetizers, a main course, then 2 or 3 desserts per person. Two different couples on different nights... but really! The same couple laughed when my husband ordered the Steakhouse steak... said the $20 upcharge was ridiculous, but my husband said it was fantastic and worth every cent.

Yes, the buffet food is typical buffet food. Getting there 2 hours after it was set up for the meal, of course some stuff was cold. We heard one couple complain about this at dinner one day... they missed dinner in the MDR (9:30pm, imagine that) so they went down to the buffet and amazingly the food was blaaahhh and cold. Wow.... really?

As far as the breakfast buffet went, we found some food we liked and stayed with that for the week. The scrambled eggs were bland, so I went for the hard boiled eggs which were excellent, still hot and cooked perfectly. The omelette station always had a line but we found they used too much oil for us, so we only did it once. We could have asked them to dump the oil and only use spray, but as I said, the hard boiled eggs were perfect. I like oatmeal, and they had it every day with lots of fixins. I was happy. There was also tons of fresh fruit, bananas apples grapefruits canteloupes, etc. Yogurt in all flavors, yes please! And the bacon.... well, people went for it like they have never eaten bacon before. If you watched the staff cleaning off tables you would see that I bet half of it was wasted. Sad.

Lunch --- our favorites by far were the Tandoor (really really good Indian food out on back deck by that pool) and the Mongollian Wok (my husband' favorite). We did the salad bar buffet also a few days for lunch and found it to be well stocked.

It was amazing to see some people standing in line at the burger/hotdog station and pizza station every day, seemed like the same people.

The Chocolate Extravaganza... yeah, we tried it. Okay, but we both felt ill afterwards as we just ate too much chocolate. (We ate salad bar for that lunch to save calories). Next cruise I think we will skip this indulgence.

So... JUST MY OPINION... there is really good food, and really great food available. In the MDR dinner, I ate the grilled salmon twice (it was delicious and moist) as well as usually the "healthy" option each night. I love fish, so if there was a grilled fish I ordered it. My husband went for foods he usually doesn't get at home, like lamb or shortribs. He enjoyed all of them. The only real disappointments we had were the diet desserts that were pretty bland. I was even able to turn down dessert a few nights. My husbands favorite dessert was the choc melty cake and mine was the bitter & blanc. Both had a zillion calories but we splurged.

I am sure my comments may irritate some people, but they are my opinion. If you think the food on Carnival ships is bad, then you weren't ordering the right thing. Overall, we really enjoyed the food.

I disagree about the buffet in the evening. I believe that as long as food is being served and the buffet is open, it should be served at the right temperature. Hot food should be hot.

I agree about the omelets being too oily. I tried an omelet once and never went back. I don't think cruise ship food (any cruise line) in general is very good.

  3. I don't understand....Why popcorn only until the movie starts? That seems really stupid. It's FREE!!

Who cares? Most people would like to get it and get to their seats before the movie starts so they don't miss any of the move. I don't get that.

When we were on the liberty we were able to get popcorn while we were passing through on the Lido deck and we weren't even staying to watch the movie. Popcorn just sounded good. So now it's only for people who stay for the movie? Stupid rules!

Yes. Really stupid. On our last cruise, the popcorn was available all day and evening at one the lido deck bars. Kids were lined up for it. The bartender would run back and forth making drinks and serving people popcorn. No big deal. This went on even when no movies were playing.

  4. You will get the kids price back as OBC once you dine.

We've done Teppanyaki many times with our kids and while they don't entertain kids per se, they entertain the whole group.

The food is salty and loaded with garlic.

On the BA our chef was horrible - dropped most of the eggs on the floor instead of catching in hat but the Sun only as the one table so you should get a good chef.

As far as little kids, we did have one experience with a couple who brought kids maybe 2 and 4 and sat at our table. The kids made a mess of the place, mixing food in water glass, etc. Parents thought it was cute - I thought parents are in for trouble later on in life so I can see times that people may not want to be with kids that are not parented well.

Wow! So a four year old and a two year old are messy when they eat and you've decided that they'll be nothing but trouble when they're older. Sure is a bunch of kid haters on here. Bunch of losers actually.

OP, take your kids to Teppanyaki. It's a fun, entertaining environment. Ignore the child haters on here.

  5. You have to see a physician right away for this. There is no sense in suffering in pain or worrying on your cruise that this will flare up. See the doctor you were referred to ASAP. If you have a bad episode on the ship, the medical center will probably dose you with pain medication, but they will also probably remove you from the ship. You don't need that kind of hassle. Good luck and good health.

  6. I'm a nurse and as another nurse posted on this thread....sutures have to be removed without pulling the outside (exposed) sutures back through the skin. This really could cause an infection. I would go to the medical center to have it done.

  7. seriously?

has he been to Africa or Texas?

    (shakes head). . .

*by the way, Dallas airport is not in Dallas (it's between Dallas and Ft. Worth, and it's huge). So the odds of you being near anything in Dallas airport that was even close to anyone that possibly was infected are minimal.

and in the same breath, let me explain how CDC is not anywhere near the Atlanta airport (which also is HUGE), and the patients that came into the CDC for treatment I can guarantee you did not walk thru the terminals regardless.

    so no need to panic.

Yes, because everyone knows Texas is a hotbed of Ebola activity.

  8. Every day in the US more people are accidentally shot and killed in the US than die from Ebola. I figure I am safer on a cruise ship than in the US

For sure this is true, but, neither have anything to do with each other.

  9. The CDC website has a very informative report on all known Ebola Cases on Planet Earth from 1976 up to the current outbreak.

    -Zaire 634

    -Sudan 335

    -England 1

    -USA 5

    -Philippines 9

    -Gabon 214

    -Ivory Coast 1

    -South Africa 2

    -Russia 2

    -Uganda 591

    -Congo 537

Since the recent outbreaks, they have added:

    Guinea

    Liberia

    Nigeria

    Sierra Leone

In the 38 years that I have managed cruise ships, the only crewmembers I have met from the countries on the CDC List above are:

-USA; Latest case 2014 (Last week!!)

    -England; Latest case 1976

    -Russia; Latest case 2004

    -Philippines; Latest case 2008

    -South Africa; Latest case 1996

It appears that the only crewmembers we need to worry about are coming from the USA.

It figures you would pin this latest outbreak on Americans. Everything (according to you) is our fault. I and many others are onto your continuous anti-American rhetoric. You may be fooling yourself, but you're not fooling anyone else. Believe it or not, North Americans (as you like to put it) are not the cause of all the world's problems. Grow Up.

  10. Because in a litigious society like we have, it seems that everything is always the fault of someone else. Remember the lady who burned her private parts with hot coffee from McD's? Hard to really blame McD's because she wasn't smart enough to realize the coffee would be hot---but that idiot settled for a large sum of money.

Sent from my LG-LS980 using Forums mobile app

You don't know the facts of that case. McDonalds had been warned numerous times by inspectors that their coffee was too hot for serving and already 700 reports of people having been burned by their coffee had been made. The woman initially was only seeking a small amount for medical expenses, but McD's said no. They got sued. The burn victim suffered third degree burns and required skin grafts. Her actual reward for damages and expenses was reasonable, but the court hit McD's with nearly $3 million in punitive damages. That really says something. I believe eventually the amount was reduced after an appeals court found the victim 20% responsible for the accident.

  11. Our worst cruise ever was our first. Nordic Empress 1994. It was bad enough to keep us from cruising again for many years. First port Freeport, we didn't even leave the ship because it was stormy and lightening all day. We had torrential down pours the entire day and there really wasn't a lot to do on the ship. The weather not the cruise line's fault of course, but it was a let down. Coco Cay was nice, but when we tried to get on a banana boat ride, a large aggressive family insisted the ride was exclusively for them. The RCI attendant tried to talk to the 'leader' of the family about it. He was a big fat 60something y/o jerk and even shoved little 110lb me. It became very ugly. Our 8 year old son was so upset and disappointed. We never did get a banana boat ride.

There was supposed to be a BBQ on Coco Cay for lunch, but by noon when we tendered over, the food had disappeared...there wasn't a bite left. We were hungry all day...until our early seating dinner. Another story. We thought the food was really bad and very sparse. Every single time we went to the buffet, they were out of most things. Couldn't get breakfast at 9am, employees always said they were out of food. Most of the drink dispensers onboard were either broken or empty for the entire cruise. Son ordered room service once, he asked for a ham and cheese sandwich and 2 milks. The sandwich was delivered on a paper plate along with two small milk cartons. There was no glass or straw offered.

I guess we were expected to be out of our teeny tiny cabin by 7:30 or 8:00 every morning because our room steward would call at 8:30 every morning to ask what was wrong with us and tell us he needed to get into the cabin. We did have a midnight buffet on one night at midnight. By the time we arrived at midnight there was nothing left.

I remember a lot of drunk people stumbling around. We actually saw people having sex in the hot tubs during the evenings. Our son did enjoy the kid's club (or whatever it was called at the time). They painted their own t-shirts and launched model rockets off the ship. I was upset to see that he was allowed to leave the kid's club at any time by himself. We found this out one night when we thought he was at an ice cream social. DH and I were walking around and saw him going up in one of the glass elevators alone. We chased him down and didn't let him go back to the kid's club after that.

Overall, it just wasn't what we envisioned a cruise would be. Lots of drunks, bad food, rude staff, rude pax. We actually regretted spending the money on the experience. Our best day was in Nassau. We took a private taxi to a resort where we had real food and got to swim and jet ski all day. Had so much fun that when the taxi driver came back to pick us up we didn't even want to go back to the ship. We all returned home several pounds lighter and vowed never again.

  12. Sorry - I know this is going to sound very harsh (go ahead flamers), but you need a dose of reality.

Ok, first of all, sorry for your partner's father.

But any "Knee-Jerk Reaction" always has to be "slept on", meaning wait til next day. (trying to keep it simple so you can follow);)

Here's the first hole in your story; the RCI phones are manned until 11:00 pm 7 days a week. Unless you are talking about a TA in which case you should be blaming your TA instead of RCI.

Consider your costs TUITION and move on. As soon as you cancel, the cabin goes right back out there. It was probably rebooked within the day. Sending emails, , calling and whining, isn't going to talk them into cancelling someone else's cabin so you can have it back.

Try taking a hard look in the mirror and stop looking to blame others for your BAD DECIDIONS. Be honest with yourself - you made a BAD DECISION and it cost you $800.

RCI is a great Cruise Line, and Cruising is the best vacation in the world, and what you did is 100% your fault.

    Is all this really necessary?

  13. We've flown AeroMexico a couple of times and changed planes in Mexico City. Everything was fine. At the Mexico City airport, I was once patted down by a female (I'm female) and she apologized profusely over and over for doing so. The airplane was clean, service was excellent. No complaints from me. Would fly with them again.

  14. Telephone calls are better than e-mails in a situation like this.

The problem starts with your using a different credit card to pre-purchase your excursions. So when your excursion was cancelled, the shore excursion people used the card that you gave them on the ship. And their billing didn't recognize this different credit card number and thus you were billed. There was no way for them to give you credit on that card since you hadn't originally used that card to book your excursions.

I always check our shipboard account every 3 or 4 days -- depends on length of cruise. Had you done that, you may have seen the error right away.

I use the same credit card for booking the cruise, pre-purchased items and for the shipboard account.

It shouldn't make a difference which card was used. The cruise line has the credit card number and it shouldn't be a problem to credit that account for the cancelled excursion no matter which card was used. I'm so tired of these businesses making stupid moves and when someone posts on here about it, they get ripped and blamed because the cruise line can't handle simple everyday credit card transactions. I also recommend calling to resolve the issue. Be prepared to spend a good amount of time on it. Once again, another post blaming the paying customer for the cruise line's ineptness.

  15. I'm also going in June, I can't answer all your questions, but I will answer one, there is a medication that I give my kids if they get seasick or just has a virus w/ throwing up or car sickness, it's a drug for chemo, even though they don't have cancer. I just go to my doctor and ask for the drug and tell them I need something incase we get seasick. Works great and w/o any drowiness at all. I will look it up later today and get back w/ you.

The medication referred to here is Zofran (brand name). I am a long time PACU nurse and we routinely use it for post op nausea. It's not only for cancer patients. It's an anti emetic and most people have no problems taking it. You can speak to your physician about it.

  16. I disagree. A cruise ship wedding is both a wedding and honeymoon rolled into one location. This was a 7 day cruise--not even a shorter one on Allure (which I still think would be more than just for the wedding--which is, what? at most a 4 hour event?).

Nonetheless, let's play it your way. If this happened at a land based wedding, would it be reasonable to expect the photographer to reimburse the wedding couple for the entire cost of the wedding ceremony (church rental, decor, flowers, officiant, etc)? I do not think so and I would be stunned if you could find any example of that happening.

Off topic, but I never knew people actually rented churches for weddings. I always believed couples were married at either the bride's or groom's church and then offered a monetary gift to the priest, minister, reverend etc. Weird.
