  1. Thanks for the review, can't wait for more. We are usually tropical destination people also but just booked a Alaska cruise on the Bliss for next year. A few people have already told me they will not do another cruise to Alaska, only land vacation.

I think a cruise is a good way to see some sights the first time. Just like Hawaii, cruise was nice but if we go back it will be a land vacation.

  2. I just returned from a NCL Escape cruise and purchased some cruise next certificates. Told I would receive an email regarding them and checked all my email right after the cruise and received nothing from NCL. I would assume I should get numbers or something to refer NCL to when I book a cruise. Does anyone know what they send for a confirmation of the purchase?

  3. I may be misreading your post and I suppose it depends on when you're sailing, but I had the impression that After Midnight is complimentary. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

(One thing people don't seem to be talking about much, I've noticed, is this trick on the Escape of adding a mediocre meal to a show so they can charge you $30 for the evening entertainment. But I thought I had it straight that After Midnight was not an upcharge show. Anyone help me out?)

After Midnight is not an upcharge show. I was just saying how things change from the time you book to the actual cruise. There is a 2 week gap when After Midnight is not on the Escape and my cruise just happens to be one of them. It's funny that 3 reps told me it will be and I can book it on board, but I know how call centers are.

  4. I have one NCL cruise next month but cancelled the next one booked. The cruise lines are getting out of control with the declines in service and the increases for everything. The last cruise we took on Celebrity we were so disgusted with everything we will never take another Celebrity cruise either.

I totally understand the original post and getting fed up. It's not the water or the soda, it's the case of enough is enough. I tried a beach vacation for a week last fall and it was wonderful and no more than most week cruises.

When I booked the Escape After Midnight was the show and Margaritaville were included. I will go to Margaritaville and pay for it and if I miss after Midnight (there is a 2 week break) so be it, but after seeing the tip increases again, the UBP prices increase again etc. enough is enough.

  5. The Holiday Inn POM has been sold and I wouldn't trust reservations out that far. The Intercontinental is beautiful and convenient to Bayside and the Port but no shuttle from the airport as is the case with all the hotels down that way that I know of.

Glad I saw this comment about Holiday Inn POM. Decided to cancel our reservation for our fall cruise this year and book the Intercontinental. We have stayed at the Intercontinental and enjoyed it, great location and beautiful hotel.

  6. It's been six weeks since I contacted NCL about being denied the 25% discount for a la carte dining with our UDP we got as a booking promo and I just heard back from Mahasin Francis the coordinator of Guest Relations. The email apologized for any misleading information I may have received but their records indicate I was entitled to The promotional UDP and as such I was not entitled to a discount for a la carte dining locations. Only the PURCHASED package provides the discount. Are you kidding me??? Nowhere in the terms and conditions does it say there is a difference between purchased UDP and promo UDP at least not at the time of my booking!! I feel insulted by this response. I'm somehow beneath those who purchased UDP. This makes no sense to me. My sail and sign card said UDP. No distinction on whether I purchased it or it was a promo. This explanation makes no sense! I wish someone had tried to pull this fast one on me while I was on board so I could have gone right to the head of Food & Beverage. This is a new low for NCL IMO!!

That response is ridiculous. It's obvious they have no idea what they are doing in Guest Relations.

  7. I agree. We were on a Partial Transit cruise last December over Christmas week. We stayed on the ship on that day and really enjoyed the experience. In fact, the entire cruise was fantastic.

There is a link to my wife's website below where she posts slideshows made from pictures she takes on our cruises. The Panama Canal Transit Cruise section is quite extensive with slideshows of all of our excursions as well as pictures taken of the partial transit through the canal.

Happy cruising everyone! It's a great way to travel!!!

We are doing a partial Panama Canal in 2016 and after researching decided to stay on the ship that day also. I am beginning to research the other ports and getting ideas for excursions in Cartegena and Costa Rica. We really enjoyed the pictures of your cruise and can't wait until April 2016. Thanks

  8. OP, I saw your post in the thread on the NCL forum and would also like to hear more detail. I have sailed NCL and CCL and looking forward to cruising with RCI, probably in 2017.

We loved the Oasis class ships on RCI, our favorite. Allure was wonderful, the shows. the food, service was good. We can't wait to cruise on the Harmony in 2017. I would also like to hear more detail about the negatives on NCL from the OP. When we cruised on the Breakaway the dining was horrible in the restaurants, the orders were all messed up and they were standing around laughing about it, never seen anything like that on any cruise. We ate in the specialty restaurants after that, very good on NCL. We also cruised on Carnival and OMG the first time was a nightmare from beginning to end but we gave it another chance and did have some really good cruises (and some bad) but every cruise line has good and bad. Glad we gave some a second chance.

  9. The first time we tried NCL, Breakaway to Bahamas we decided it was not for us. A few months later we were looking for a Hawaii cruise and decided after cancelling another cruise the POA was the best cruise for a first timer to Hawaii. We were so happy we decided on the POA. It is the only cruise for Hawaii, overnight in Kauai and Maui. We loved that cruise!! Food so much better than Breakaway and the only cruise for Hawaii. We really like our PCS at NCL and currently have a couple booked for next year. Royal is still out first choice and we have a few booked with them but I didn't let the first cruise on NCL determine future cruises. Quantum totally disappointed us but we still are cruising on RCI.

  10. We went back and forth with that decision before we finally decided to go with the POA. We cancelled our other cruise because it did not spend enough time on the islands for a first timer to Hawaii and so glad we did. Is the ship perfect-no but you can find fault with any cruise if you try. Actually some things were better than expected and I wouldn't change a thing. We stayed overnight in Honolulu a couple nights before the cruise and took a nice day tour. We rented cars in Kauai and Maui since they were both overnights and were able to see and do so much.

Next time we will fly and do a land vacation to a couple of our favorite islands but we wouldn't change a thing for a first time visit to Hawaii.
