  1. Read52, good to hear from you. Well all I can say is it is HARD for me to STAY retired. I am finding myself sleeping in later, and I don't like that, as I was so used to getting up early in the morning. :) I have been trying to help my husband "clean up" a lot of his mess that he just leaves almost anywhere (important papers, documents, etc.), but never seems to be able to "find" anything, wonder why??? I believe I have mentioned that I am very organized, so hopefully I can get his papers in some type of order where he will be able to find things better. I have always had my own system for myself, and then if he gets into some of my papers, he never puts them "back" where they belong, so thus, you can guess what I go through, trying to find my papers.:) I would still like to find something part time, but last week I went out of town with my son/grandson to take care of some business in Branson, MO., and then my husband and I went to Branson this past week, and then my friend called and wants to go to Branson the end of this month, so I "think" I will be busy for a while. Everyone that is either retired, or getting ready to do this, and counting the days, I hope it works out the way YOU want it to. :)

    Hi,

Once I retire, I will still do something part time or sub. I do like to sew and have made several things for my 6 grandchildren. For my partner, I made a quilt for her retirement. All the present students decorated a small square. Then I had the teachers write a message to her on other squares. She was very happy to get it. That was the first time I made a quilt.

  2. Beshears....all I can say is "You go girl!!!" People like that are a real pain! Anyway, I haven't been on here in awhile but I do remember your name. I retired 2 years ago and would never go back to teaching again. I do help my husband with his business a bit, but so much better than before. Anyway, enjoy your retirement!!!😊😊😊

    Hi,

I have not been on this site for a while myself. My granddaughter attended kindergarten at the school I teach at so I was busy. She would come home with me each night until about 6:30 pm.

I am getting close to that retirement time. I figure two more years so about June of 2019. My partner is retiring at the age of 70 but I don't plan on going that long. We are going to Alaska in August with my son and family from Chicago.

  3. We booked in the first few hours when an inside room was about 1/2 of what it is now. I have been on the big ships and prefer them but Cuba was a place that both my husband and I wanted to see even if it is a short time. We booked the April 19th. Our final payment is due Jan. 19th. We checked with RC as to what would happen if there would be a change by our incoming government. They said that we could cancel and move any payment to another cruise. We are going because it may be the only time we will be able to do it.

  4. Hi Shirley, I haven't been on here for at least a year. Changed phones and never put cruise critic back on until recently and this came up as a favorite. I hope everything is going well for you.

I have not been on cruise critic much in the last year, just a few posts. Everything is fine. I have a really small class (13 kids) and my partner has the same. My granddaughter started kindergarten at my school this year. She comes home with my every day until her parents and brother come home. We went on a cruise in August with our son in Texas his wife and his 3 boys. We are going to Alaska with my other son and his family in August. In Feb. I will be 65. I will start taking my SS next year when I am 66 so that I am not limited to how much money I can earn. I need to work one more school year to pay off my house. But I would like to do two years if everything works out. My teaching partner is 70 and is retiring at the end of this school year. That's my life of the past year and my goals for the future.

  5. For me paying off the house (22 payments left) makes the most sense. One less payment to have when I retire. My husband gets SS now because he has been disabled for 11 years. I will get SS and a pension from where I work. Most of the payment now goes to the principal so it is like saving $1,000 a month. Just trying to pay off what I can before I retire so we can be comfortable. I will still work parttime or sub(I am a teacher) to help with the insurance costs.

  6. Hi! We were on this sailing, too, and really enjoyed the cruise! Neither of our cabins got the CC invitation, but I stopped by Guest Services for the time and location on Monday.

The activities director (Gordon) and group coordinator (Gabriela) were all set to host 50 +members of our roll call - but there were only 8 of us there. Several of us mentioned that we did not receive an invitation. Gabriela showed us the list (our names were on it) and said invitations were sent to housekeeping for all 50+ on the list. Sounds like it was a breakdown in delivering the invitations by housekeeping staff. Since there were so few of us, it was mostly a Q&A chat, and they had enough "prizes" for all of us there. Everyone walked away with either a bottle of wine, a RCI hat, or water bottle.

We also loved this cruise! We were a family with 2 cabins overlooking the front of the ship under the bridge (one Family Oceanview deck 8, and a regular Oceanview deck 6). What a joy to have sunny skies and mostly calm seas the whole trip with our diversion. And the extra sea day really allowed us to enjoy and experience all the fun offerings on the ship. All the "kids" (from 7 to 60's) had a blast.

Thanks for your review! We mentioned several times that we had the best fellow passengers since everyone we saw appeared to be having a good time, even with the itinerary change! In Adventure Ocean, they mentioned there were 1200 kids on board that week. These were well-behaved kids!

    Enjoy your future cruises!

We were on this cruise too. We did not get our invitation either. Then we got so busy that I forgot about it. This was the first time that we were sailing with our son and his family ( three young boys).

  7. I was on this cruise too with my husband and my son and his family. We prepaid the parking also. We got to the port about 10:30. There were just a few people checking in and walking directly on the ship. Since my husband and I were diamond, we got through the line just a few minutes earlier than my son who was sailing on RC for the first time.

Sorry we did not make the meet and mingle party. I would have like to meet other people.

  8. This was our 12th cruise with RC. This is the first time my husband had hives. They were on his neck and stomach area. He went down to Customer service and asked what they used. They told him that it was Tide. We are just going to ask that they give us new sheets or bring our own.

  9. I haven't been on this thread for a while. I retired from teaching June, 2014, and have not looked back for a second! Just looked at my cruise list and I will be starting cruise #25 since retiring on August 18th. I guess to say I love cruising is an understatement! I plan to keep on traveling as long as I can. Katherine

I remember you because you were a teacher and I think we were on a cruise together. I still have a couple of years before I retire. In fact, I am getting ready to start a new school year. I am learning that in some states the teachers have their own retirement fund instead of social security.

  10. Maybe you could come in from the other direction, and then you wouldn't have to cross 3 Lanes of traffic?

Thanks, I am going a different way. I have been working at this school for 28 years. The traffic can get bad because I live right outside DC. Metro started working on repair of its system and the media had everyone going crazy about it. The heavy traffic was due to that situation. The other person was going too fast for the traffic. Normally it is not a problem turning there.
